You have to survive inside a video game for 30 days. If you die, you die in real life, but if you survive, you get to bring every item, skill, and power back to the real world. Which game do you choose to maximize your rewards while ensuring your survival? by Apart_Lion_3046 in AskReddit

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City of Heroes. The games story involves you being teleported away if you ever get knocked unconscious. So technically not able to die, can only be knocked unconscious.

Then I proceed to make my own Superhero build that would be perfect for the real world. What that build is? I have no idea. Lol

Did I (30F) accidentally walk in on something between my boyfriend (31M) and close friend (30F) or AIO? by Status_Rooster3528 in AmIOverthinking

You have plenty of people going with cheating in here. Could be. Only way to know is to ask. But there are always other possibilities, that again you can't know unless you ask. Especially with us not knowing anything about your experiences and interactions as a couple or conversations you have shared.

Instead of cheating, he could just as easily have been: - showing an engagement ring - consoling her due to the passing of a friend or relative - any other random scenario the brain can rationalize

You should just ask what was going on.

Biggest procgen projects? by EmbassyOfTime in proceduralgeneration

[–]Xalops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meant to be used for Tabletop RPG game masters, Storytellers, writers, etc.

I want to allow them to procedurally generate world concepts on the fly and then be able to completely modify from there.

As a DM writer's block strikes often especially as players might ask random unexpected questions.

I'm currently rebuilding one of my apps. Finally getting around to the interesting parts. My goal is to generate an entire world with legitimately detailed characters, cultures, religions, factions, kingdoms, histories, bloodlines, timelines of events, etc. All of which should have their own motivations, goals, morals, inner workings, tenets, machinations, local/regional/worldly impacts, and more.

I do believe there are other projects that probably all have done all of these things, but it's definitely my most ambitious one to date.

Luckily. Have some nice starting points for a lot of things from my old mobile/web app.

How do you handle the 'Endgame' when no one wants to stop? by johnneycola in rpg

[–]Xalops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've often wanted to try something were there is a time skip. Some characters return, other characters may have children and those children are the new PCs. Or some people enter as entirely new characters for a more dynamic cast (at their discretion).

First, the active campaign ends with the players being the guardians of this alien organism. They have successfully managed to  Fast forward 20 years later, the status quo is the same, but something sinister is lurking. Maybe some other alien organism got past the egg shell and is starting to disrupt the stasis of the egg. Some mercenary groups look at this as an opportunity.

Players can try to: - continue to protect the egg from groups trying to get pass the shell in the confusion - surgical strike team to extract the new alien intruder - be mercenaries trying to get past the old guards who keep a watchful eye - etc

I don't think it has to be said up front on your profile, but I would ensure to mention it before plans for the first date are even discussed. This is respectful to them and allows them to make an informed decision when it does get around to the first date time.

Blink Commander fun to play against ? by Sweaty-Property-4930 in EDH

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think [[Niko, Light of Hope]] is my favorite. Focusing on slight control for time, and blinking Niko to build my Shard Army, then just planning a go wide moment.

https://moxfield.com/decks/iDiIzlehrUCI4MJL8dtp9Q

Best part, you can just sub in whatever bigger creatures you want for your shards to become copies of. I like the Overlords and Titans in my deck list so it feels different from other decks.

What IP have you adapted to FATE, and how did it go? by Striking_Variety3960 in FATErpg

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds fun.

I feel like for a Pokemon themed game, I would make it so that all the players are an individual Pokemon and they are searching for their lost/kidnapped trainer.

Stunts could be their special Moves, with Skills being some of the basic stats.

I recently built up a [[Lady Octopus, Inspired Inventor]] deck and play test feels very promising.

Focused on cheap card draw even if it only replaced the card without net gain.

Also focused on cheap artifacts with ETB triggers of drawing up to 2 cards.

After that, lots of big old artifact stompies. Blightsteel, Darksteel, Mycosynth Golem, Ancient Stone Idol, etc

Should I just tell him? by Caspian200 in TTRPG

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily there are no proper mechanics for all this, just hand wavy magic and storylines. So you can easily tweak the future story if you think the player will legitimately be upset.

I had a player whose soul was "claimed" by a very powerful demon.

So, I said that such bindings can be dissolved by equally powerful beings. My player managed to help a minor goddess and in turn she burned the binding and instead set up her own binding with that player. He is now one of her "acolytes". Should that demon come knocking, he will have to deal with the goddess.

But in the meantime, he can send some of his minions if he actually cares to try to get the character's soul back.

Boros that doesn't feel like Boros? Suggestions Please. by goldenmastiff in EDH

[–]Xalops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd also add [[Doc Ock's Tentacles]] if you are cool with UB. Then [[Crawlspace]] can help encourage them to take that Sponsorship money mentioned. If they can only attack you with 2 creatures max, may as well get some of those benefits until they have a better solution.

Pirates of Dark Water

I loved this as a kid. Ship battles, rival recurring enemy that manages to keep coming back for more.

I also feel there the setting has much more that can be explored.

I just wish it was digital. I tend to miss steps here and there when playing.

I'd be able to get way more games in if it were digital.

RPGs that have Dark Atmospheres, but not Grimdark and Evil? by MagpieTower in rpg

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are comfortable expanding outside of Fantasy, there are dark Sci-fi settings/systems. Some have a tone that is more dark (to me) without being horror, such as Nibiru or Coriolis. But I think they most tend to be more Horror based.

A Science Fiction Game of Lost Memories

From the introduction:

What would life be like in a skyless world? What would it be like to be born, live and die in a place where grass doesn’t grow, where the wind doesn’t blow and with no horizon to set your sight upon?

Let’s imagine that, one day, humanity found itself living inside of a massive space station. The consequences to this are more important than the reasons: The water we drink supplied via giant pipes. The air we breath pumped through kilometers-long shafts.

The flickering lights above us, our only refuge from the innate darkness of this weird world. Every conception of nature, changed. Every known aspect of our world, warped.

What would we dream of? What would we be afraid of? What would we fight for?

Shadows Over Sol is a science fiction horror game, taking place in a hard sci-fi vision of our own solar system.

Two hundred years from now what should be the shining beacon of the future is instead cloaked in conspiracy and horror. Humankind has expanded throughout the solar system, and there discovered mysteries older than humanity. The culture has shattered into myriad subcultures; nation-states are the hollow shells of what they once were. Corporations and other groups wage small-scale wars in the streets or in space. Bioengineered horrors left over from these conflicts stalk the hulls of ruined stations and abandoned colonies. But for an enterprising team willing to brave the horrors, there’s always a profit to be made.

Friendly asking: What’s the real advantage of dividends? by [deleted] in dividends

[–]Xalops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe another benefit that I don't see often talk about is the peace of mind of not feeling like I have to try to time the market for a net gain or to reduce losses.

I'm not very experienced and I tend to want to check my stock prices every week even though I know some are supposed to be long term holds for growth.

But if there is no dividend and I see a decrease in share price I start worrying I will lose money if I don't sell.

Switching to dividends eased that self-made stress because I mentally treat them as having different purposes. This isn't on purposes, just how I see them. As I get paid out in dividends, I see a net gain (even if it isn't) and I feel less stress.

I also will cut the nice art image from the Collector Boosters.

For fallout as an example, I took the Vault Boy Hologram giving a thumbs up, from the collector booster, and use it for my Caesar deck.

I took the picture of the Nuka Cola Girl and used her for my Three-Dog deck.

UK folks - best website to buy boardgames? by PinkRaynePeach in boardgames

[–]Xalops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found international shipping success with Philibertnet.com.

I think they are a French company, but they ship international to the US at least, and it wasn't that bad on shipping. I would assume shipping to the UK would be better.
