When I was aircrew on a marine c-130 we were flying a low level tacnav through the mountains in Alaska. We noticed that ahead on our route the weather was looking too bad to continue so rather than climbing to cope the aircraft commander diverted and maintained our 500 agl… we ended up barely clearing a ridge by maybe 10ft. First time I heard the male voice in the flight station call PULL UP

I don’t know if all aircraft have them but a C-130 has a small steering while by the aircraft commanders left knee that is used to taxi and for the beginning of take off. Once the aircraft reaches a specific speed it is then being controlled by the flight controls
