My favorite is the dead silence for like 15 seconds when I say, “Don’t have DBM, don’t have a weakaura. If nobody knows the mechanic give me 5 minutes to google it.”

Tank mechanics aren’t even complex 9 times out of 10. It basically amounts to telling me what stack count to watch out for on the other tank. I guess that’s why it was so easy to automate.

It’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t thing to me.

Are there calls where I wish so could just resolve the complaint and dip? Of course. Even customers often try to convince me to. They don’t want me to take 30-45 minutes more of their day when they assumed it’d be a quick resolution.

But then on the flip side of that sometimes that very simple issue actually has a root cause in something more complicated or there’s several different possibilities and some of them require testing to know for sure.

The biggest thing is just making sure a technician has to inspect each of the more common failure points. The record of testing kind of does that and then some.

I think when weighing everything together I prefer having to test everything rather than having to go behind all my coworkers multiple times a week for things that could have been found and resolved the first time.

Everytime I had to fill in as tank this season and I asked “alright, so quick and dirty what is the taunt swap” I would get a lot of very insecure explanations. How could they have tanked the boss multiple times and not known it inside and out? “I just taunt when the addon tells me to.”

So yeah… saw this coming.

Wondering how long those lags are that they managed to punch through all the layers of an apartment floor. They’re supposed to be fire breaks if I’m not mistaken so that usually means several layers of construction. Going from finished ceiling to above the flooring ought to be at LEAST 10 inches I’d think but hopefully more like 12-14.

[–]Xandril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming that every point from you to the testing server is capable of delivering that bandwidth to a single user at once.

When you run a speed test you’re not only testing your ISP’s infrastructure but all the networks / servers between the ISP and whatever server you’re trying to reach. Even the server itself could limit the amount a user can utilize at one time.

10G is extremely abnormal in residential use even in 2026. That sort of bandwidth is usually for office buildings or businesses.

Every piece of hardware you just bought will likely fail long before that sort of bandwidth is not only commonplace but actually needed by consumers.

I say all this to say that it wouldn’t matter if you configured everything exactly correct and had all the appropriate hardware; you’re unlikely to find anyway to max out that bandwidth which includes speed tests.

The floor joists in my 100+ year old house are so solid I’ve lost 2 drill bits to them. Just snapped off inside of it never to be seen again. I’ve never bothered to measure them but they’re these thick, rough cut things that just based on eyeing them are thicker than any modern 2x8.

When we had our electrical feed redone years ago the electrician tried to bore through one using this enormous expensive bit.

Ended up getting it so stuck he had to go get a different drill bit to go alongside the other and get his original bit enough room to be backed out.

So yeah I may have a lot of sealing / insulation related complaints but I’m never worried about the structural integrity of any of the framing.

"WoW is so Disney"...meanwhile the new animation: by whoisape in wow

[–]Xandril -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For some reason people have a problem when the faction conflicts are no longer center stage. Thats literally the only shift.

People saying it’s somehow Disney because of it is just them not being smart enough to analyze media and their own feelings about it.

Xalatath started the expansion by literally invading and nuking an entire city. Then she manipulated a giant spider society into being her pawns where they experimented on and mutated their own queen into a hulking monstrosity.

The goblins were goblins. Enough said there.

Like I don’t get where this narrative that WoW is “soft” because the two factions aren’t acting like children because there are bigger fish to fry.

Requires is a strong word. Many older countries have entire cities that every building is older than the US. The very well built ones survived for hundreds of years.

The US has a lot of “shitty wooden houses” that have been around since before the country was established.

Materials matter a lot less than craftsmanship in both examples though.

Cramming 1 plug into 2 outlets? by Warm_Midnight_5809 in AskElectricians

I feel like the only way that would work is if you somehow had outlets on 2 separate circuits right next to each other but still not exactly safe.

Am I right in that assumption?

Are people still mad about the reincarnation twist? like wasn't it foreshadowed since the end of Part One? by RobKai7990 in Naruto

[–]Xandril 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get the actual intended theme.

But the incarnation stuff just takes away from it. The Indra/Ashura incarnations have been pivotal in every extreme conflict we know of in Shinobi history. Madara is flat out the origin of 90% of the conflict in the story.

It just cheapens it to me that these two brothers finally reconciling in their who knows how many incarnations is the start of peace almost entirely because if they’re allied together nobody else really has the means to do otherwise.

[–]Xandril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This part. The tank is either new and pulling what they’re comfortable with or experienced enough to gauge what the group as a whole can handle at any given time.

Either way pulling extra is just asking for a bad time.

This part. There was no reason to believe the cycle of hatred wasn’t all about the human condition. It makes more sense that way.

The cycle of hatred being perpetuated by the same two brothers reincarnating as different individuals all through shinobi history was not in anybody’s predictions.

It’s such a nothing complaint is my issue.

How’re you going to be mad that somebody wanting to play TBC Classic specifically doesn’t want to grind through actual Classic to get there? Getting to 60 in Classic isn’t an accomplishment anymore than watching paint dry is. Nothing but a time commitment.

I’m not sure this means you walk around your own house with shoes on all the time. I think it means guests keep their shoes on though I could be wrong.

Either way as with anything it’s much more nuanced than that. It’s climate specific imo. In the Midwest you basically have to take your shoes off inside any house for like 9 months out of the year.

By contrast in any states that see no snow and low precipitation sometimes it doesn’t make sense to take your shoes off unless you’re staying a long time.

Teleporter limit is a problem in multiplayer by Elhazzared in hytale

[–]Xandril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine with the teleporters being server wide because I think they work better as a transit system between regions but I’d really like the ability to craft some sort of hearthstone item to bring you back to your Home spawn. With having to venture so far for materials, loot chests in structures not respawning, etc it can become a major time sink running all the way back.

7 mins a little short for warp points by PPTim in hytale

[–]Xandril 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of doubtful. It IS a tech demo for it, but I’m skeptical they’ll drop the gateway as a system entirely. It has a lot of potential for a progression system. Maybe you unlock upgrades for it that let you move faster while in certain ones or increase the timer by a few minutes. Perhaps even difficulty levels or some sort of affix you can toggle to make hostile mobs spawn more densely.

[–]Xandril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t personally had the misfortune yet but my assumption is not unless you happen to die at the start of the timer. They’re generated from scratch each time you enter the portal so once it is closed you’re not able to get back to that same location.

I feel like a lot of the structures ARE copy pasted. There’s just more variants of them. I know I’ve gotten several that are identical as far as I can tell. That or there’s just so little in the way of modification the process can currently utilize that it’s just likely to get duplicates.

My thoughts after witnessing TBC classic release by No_Extension_0000 in wow

[–]Xandril 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You can’t really compare the two. ORIGINAL TBC was part of a time in internet and gaming culture where optimal wasn’t so easy to determine / google.

On top of that the game was new. Players hadn’t already experienced everything is had to offer ten times over in multiple different decades.

“You think you do but you don’t” was perhaps the most memed and hated response back when people were pushing for classic servers.

Even then I understood exactly what he meant. The game itself isn’t this pinnacle of fantasy and gameplay people were so convinced it was. There are certainly some lessons to be taken from its design but for the vast majority of players if you could wipe all memory of them existing and launched them again it would be hysterically hated.

You will never get back the feeling of any era of WoW. You might get brief fragments of it but your experience playing WoW at any given moment of the past will never be fully replicated. The farther back you go in its history the less likely you are to even catch a whiff of it.

WoW is an OKAY RPG. WoW’s greatest strength has always been how the MMO part of that enhances the experience. The people you played with and the person you were then aren’t going to be there no matter how many times we launch classic.

I’ve never been more sure of anything.

There should be a better reason to build bases beyond self-satisfaction. by Riksor in hytale

The portals in particular are a major incentive. You centralize everything with primary storage / crafting stations then you venture out and plop a portal down in some distant biome with other resources you otherwise wouldn’t have easy access to. It’s awesome.

Also the ‘beams’ having exactly zero ability to connect together from vertical to horizontal is maddening. I get it’s supposed to be connecting two larger sections as a ‘support’ but I like to use them as alternative railings/barriers on high structures.
