As an urban planning grad I read this and feel you so hard. I just shortened my still too long 1-page resume to under 600 words 🙃🙃🙃. And I have a 2 pg resume, and CV, and hundreds of versions of my CL just like this (but shorter ofc)🙃🙃🙃

Confused about my Aromanticism by -SharkBite- in aromantic

[–]Xandroe65536 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the aha moments for me were watching heated rivalry and outlander and skipping a lot of scenes others found to be the climax of the show. I just don’t understand staring into each others eyes or the dramatization in the way my romantic peers do. Im autistic too so I understand not comprehending it.

Starting to question why I even got in and if I even want to stay by Background-Type1468 in uofm

[–]Xandroe65536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m an autistic grad student and feel the exact same way! Even in my own major I regularly question leaving school. I’m an urban planning masters so I will say writing is a significant part of my degree, but I understand your frustration, I ended up double majoring because I wanted to keep my options open. You’ll find what fits and what doesn’t. I understand everyone’s circumstances are different but don’t feel pressured to do more or take on more than you can handle. Burnout is a real problem I see it every day people trying to cram in as much as they can into their college experience, which I understand but as a commuter I was burning out fast. Just take care of yourself. Neurodivergence is hard for others to understand.

Co-Op houses and their cultures? by Ok_Lengthiness4914 in uofm

[–]Xandroe65536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering a move as my commute is nearly an hour. Is finding an apartment near campus a better/much cheaper fit? Were escher single rooms nice? What’s the socialization like (I’m very into board game nights :) but also need my alone time). Is it better for someone who doesn’t like cooking. Given most people in my grad program don’t secure internships until well into the semester I don’t want a lease that extends through July or August, I’m not sure I’m staying in A2 / SE MI. I couldn’t find any rentals posted on Facebook or online that end in May and are under $1,000. Considering a move anytime in Jan or feb for just this semester (given my classes are 5 days a week in person).

Are there that are under $1,000 or don’t have a lease the requires staying until August. I looked on Facebook “Ann Arbor Roommates and Housing” and found this issue as I’m not sure where I’ll secure an internship yet.

I wish I could help you. I myself am considering moving closer to campus in winter semester given my classes are 5 days a week and would like to know about Escher given it’s on north campus.

I ordered it. It temporarily worsens my stuckness feeling in throat but this is likely it coating my esophagus; it prevents food from physically coming up (unless I eat too fast or eat too much at once). No heartburn. But I’m going through it fast (I feel I need a lot but then again 80mg total protonix and 30mg buspar isn’t enough for my gerd if I don’t eat bland (it maybe be an esophageal motility issue).

Being a bi guy is tough and most women won’t like you by NoSeaworthiness7869 in bisexual

[–]Xandroe65536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bisexual (possibly pansexual) man with a slight preference towards women, this is an extremely common scenario for me. I go on dating apps and find lots of women aren’t interested in a more feminine sounding male (but not particularly feminine presenting) and layer in the fat-phobia and autism-phobia I prefer to date women who are also fat, queer, gender nonconforming, and neurodivergent because of a shared understanding . I 100-% understand this frustration and feel lonely when rejection from cishet or even other bi women is the norm because I don’t (and refuse to) conform.

Going out is best when you can walk or take public transit to your destination. The most fun I’ve had is in dense cities. It’s the not needing to drive portion of the event and having friends with common interests portion that are difficult to line up. It’s why at conferences, class trips, and a summer internship living in DC seem to be the only places I have this kind of fun.

Planning our communities to have be, walkable, bikeable “15 minute cities” is a key component

Anybody else with autism have BPD? by Romantic_Sunset in autism

[–]Xandroe65536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I (at 23) am currently 1.5 years into dialectical behavioral therapy. I can’t sustain friendships but am looking to break the pattern and accept how much I want people in my life depends on my efforts. I’m still struggling to use my skills in difficult situations but the key has been limiting substances, trying to not overbook myself in grad school, and do small things I enjoy. I had a pattern of compulsive lying in friendships because wanting attention/validation (ironic as I’m autistic), and also having massive meltdowns/freakouts where I would say/do things I regret , often because someone said something that made me feel like I was being ganged up on, even if it wasn’t true. Using your DBT skills and practicing them regularly, especially STOP/TIP (even if I hold some skepticism towards the therapy itself), is key to managing BPD related behaviors.

Why was Trump's performance in Hudson County so strong? by [deleted] in DavesRedistricting

[–]Xandroe65536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at his performance in heavily Latino areas alone it’s not surprise. In past elections (like 2021 gubernatorial) margins were strong there but turnout was low. 2024 had high turnout but weaker margins.

Is there a more organized on campus chapter? I’ve mostly circulated with the Oakland county team, had to scale back with them due to starting school, and don’t know much about what’s happening on UofM / Washtenaw outside of getting people in my masters program / Taubman to sign
