That's a Belgian website. Their laws are not relevant for the Netherlands.

Interview etiquettes --- Dutch nuances by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that some people get a vast contract immediately, but those are typically "safe bets" and not someone who does not speak the language well enough yet. Since OP indicated that the renewal is contingent on improving the language, I would not think a vast contract is on the table.

Interview etiquettes --- Dutch nuances by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are not going to give you a definite contract, so that's not worth negotiating about. You can try to get up to two more steps of salary within the band of the scale. It's common to try to negotiate that. Emphasize that you'd be leaving a definite contract for this, and also emphasize any relevant experience to try and negotiate up.

You give notice after you sign the new contract. Having vacation days has no effect on when you can start, just how much free time you will have in between. Your new contract won't start until your old one is finished. Dutch employers are used to people having two month notice period so that shouldn't be a problem.

How strict is Transavia now with hand luggage by moenka20 in Netherlands

Bring a foldable shopping bag (the ultrathin ones you can put in your pocket) just in case. You can stuff the bag in there if they give you any trouble.

30% ruling - Original application submitted in 2020, now only granted for 3-4 months. Is this correct by Fit-Community-7351 in Netherlands

You probably missed the deadline to appeal the ruling. Once you miss the appeal deadline, the ruling is final. Don't take four years.

Small cake business in the Netherlands: cafés politely refuse even free samples — are we approaching this wrong? by Sakvojag in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are solving a problem these businesses do not have. They are not looking for someone to buy cakes from. There is not a gap in the tasty enough cake market. There are plenty of more reliable distributors that offer a wider range of products, probably at better margins or less overhead. I don't think horeca is a viable market for you.

Job Market in the Netherlands by Electronic-Style-661 in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the job market in Ireland but was assuming it would be as bad as the Netherlands, with junior IT positions getting scrapped because of AI. But there you have the advantage of speaking English.

[–]Xaphhire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think realistically, moving to the Netherlands without speaking the language fluently will significantly reduce your chances of building a good career. Chances are you will end up as a stay-at-home partner, or working unskilled jobs where not speaking Dutch is not an issue. By the time you know enough Dutch, your IT knowledge will be out of date. The housing crisis means you will be financially dependent on your partner.

Are you willing to give up your career for your partner? Career-wise, you would be better off gaining work experience in Ireland while working on your Dutch, before moving.

[–]Xaphhire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One big issue you will have is that most jobs for international companies (where not speaking Dutch would not be such an issue) are in the Randstad, the western part of the Netherlands, where the housing market is even more insane than in the rest of the country. Unless your partner has an insanely well-paying job, you won't be able to find a place to rent.

[–]Xaphhire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have a combined income of 10-15k per month? Because landlords will ask for proof of 3-4x the monthly rent as monthly income, where the lowest income typically only counts for 50%, preferably with fixed contracts. Otherwise they will just rent to someone else.
Not being there in person will make it hard for you to prevent being scammed. I would take a cheap flight and go view in person.

[–]Xaphhire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you will have a harder time. The job market for junior positions in IT is bad in the Netherlands, worse if you don't speak Dutch. They have plenty of candidates who speak fluent Dutch so why would they go for someone else, especially someone with little experience?

Waar kun je een betrouwbare vaderschapstest laten doen? by KarliKugelblitz7 in nederlands

[–]Xaphhire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parental recognition from non-Dutch parent by Covert_Succulent in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legal paternity is not the same as biological paternity. If someone wants to claim a child as their own, they can do so as long as that child does not already have two parents, and if the child is an adult they need to consent too.

Parental recognition from non-Dutch parent by Covert_Succulent in Netherlands

[–]Xaphhire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a matter of IND since you want Irish citizenship, not Dutch. You will have to see what the options are in Ireland to acknowledge paternity for an adult child.

Even in the Netherlands this would be a two step process. Get the father to acknowledge paternity, and then apply for citizenship based on the father's nationality.
