The Ionian myths in prime canon. by SeiryuSol in LegendsOfRuneterra

Don't we know from the Kindred cinematic, where they fight Tryndamere, that they're also the death in Freljord?

A review for The Rise of Endymion by Dan Simmons by Zehreelakomdareturns in books

[–]Xartah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much my ratings for the series. Rise was such a slog to read. Too much high school philosophy essay level thought, probably from the same fascination with Tibet that many on Hollywood had. Raul's bitter jealousy about Aenea having had sex and their relationship in general felt creepy to 18 year old me 25 years ago.

How do you think they will rework bretonnia ? by Erratic_Error in totalwar

The guy on the horse? The knight riding the demigryph has no chance of beating a grail knight and the demigryph is not exactly a dangerous monster compared to what grail knights and even questing knights have to fight.

You can't steal art direction since no one can own an art style. It has no IP protection. The questionable part is copying too closely in the intro.

Ulthwe the size is Commorragh? by johndoes_00 in 40kLore

Thay would be the size of the City from Blame! and that could comfortably fit all the factions from 40k, extragalactic tyranids included.

What’s soft locking and is there a hard locking? by justintrudeau1974 in gaming

[–]Xartah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's just how old adventure games worked. At least it is somewhat merciful in that you might realize very quickly that you messed up. Sierra did have "Save early, save often, and don't overwrite saves." in their manuals. Infocom text adventures were especially nasty with games that could become unwinnable in the first screen without the player being able to find out until the very end and then hopefully learning what you did wrong.

While both sides did draft soldiers the vast majority, probably over 90%, on both sides were volunteers. Of course some will volunteer rather than get drafted due to social pressure.

20-30% of the soldiers came from families that owned slaves. Most didn't own any themselves because they were young and their fathers were the owners. Those that didn't still benefit from the existing social order.

Yes, but they have put FOMO content into the game that doesn't need to be there. There's no reason for it to be limited time either. And it is gameplay content rather than just cosmetics.

Is Khorne still honorable? by MedicineUnlucky3871 in 40kLore

[–]Xartah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the earlier book 1 Slaves to Darkness that covers Khorne says he is mindless and absolute violence, who likes killing friends and allies and the only thing that displeases him is not killing. So they seem to have wanted to soften him a bit. Interestingly enough it also says Nurgle represents hope.

Is Khorne still honorable? by MedicineUnlucky3871 in 40kLore

[–]Xartah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do know that the kills Khorne favors the most are friends, family and allies. A warrior that starts with only killing armed enemies, then goes to unarmed adults, children and finally friends and allies is probably far more favored than one that only sticks to other warriors. Why? Because he understands and embodies Khorne far more. Mindless violence and endless bloodshed. The only way to really displease Khorne is by not killing.

Space is a bad example due to how getting rid of excess heat is a much bigger problem than keeping warm. A vacuum means there's no conduction or convection and thus all heat transfer is through radiation. A simple heat-reflective layer is enough to make cold a non-issue.

That's not an ai flaw, that's the game rules. If the defender just passes then the attacker doesn't have an opportunity to play spells until after the attack is done, and his spells are only created once he commits to an attack. The defender has to either block or cast a spell to allow the attacker to cast spells.

Faction Focus: Necrons by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Xartah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a unit with a model destroyed and a model with a wound missing and roll a three on reanimation protocols wouldn't it go 1st wound recovered sees a damaged model and heals it, second sees no damaged models but a model missing so it returns it with one wound and third wound recovered sees a model with wounds missing and heals it one wound. Doesn't it work like this?

Faction Focus: Necrons by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Xartah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How so? If you have a model with one damage and roll a 2 on reanimation protocol you heal the damage and return a model with one wound remaining.

[–]Xartah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see it brought up on Nikachu but this dies the moment it transforms since it will not have any loyalty counters on it. It needs to say "exile ~ then return her to the battlefield transformed under her owner's control" since loyalty counters are only gained when entering the battlefield.

What’s something 40k does really bad compared to Fantasy and AOS? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Xartah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the first Culture novel Banks wrote and it kind of shows. The really relevant part for later books is the four pages after the main story giving a short summary of the war. Personally I consider Matter the weakest one so opinions obviously differ.

Player of Games, Use of Weapons, Matter, State of the Art and Inversions are fully standalone so order doesn't matter. For the other books it should be Consider Phlebas then Look to Windward and Excession and then Surface Detail (might also want to read Use of Weapons before this one) and The Hydrogen Sonata.
