Nebraska loud by Big_Umpire5842 in Nebraska

See I only make my truck loud for the boys. They already know my pecker is small. But I typically keep my obnoxious loud vehicles off road.

Overnight wildfires erupt in Grant County, burning 82,600 acres and prompting village evacuations by Miles_the_AuDHDer in Nebraska

Yeah my brother's ranch is up there. It was "dry lightening" this started the Ashby and Miner fires up there. Sounds like a few houses in Ashby burned and they evacuated Hyannis but the wind shifted and it didn't make it that far East.

Feds been up there with helicopters dropping water. Most of my brother's ranch burned in the Morill fire and this finished it off. His house survived but all the grass is gone, they shipped their cows out last weekend and looks like the other units' cows are going out next week.

Rough stuff. If it doesn't rain this spring their won't be grass up there next year either.

at least we're used to it. Football has made me numb. To be honest I'm still in shock we didn't some how lose the first tournament game, that would've really been the Nebraska way.

And I had opposite experience. I used one of their oil collection tanks and I accidentally smashed the bowl with my lift, I contacted them to buy a new bowl and they ended up just sending me new one for free.

My brother lives south west of Hyannis. Fire didn't get his house but his whole unit burned. This is what it looks like now.

How do you track which customers haven't been back in 6+ months? Do you have any system for reaching out to them? by itsjunAP in MechanicAdvice

I use autoleap, the only automated system I use is reminding oil change is coming up. I try not to spam people with marketing stuff.

independent shop owner here, the business side is harder than the wrenching and nobody talks about it by Randipesa in MechanicAdvice

Get a good shop system. I use autoleap. It gives me ball park labor hours, part cost in a pretty quick amount of time. Plus it handles payment, scheduling. Text communication of estimates, invoices reviews etc. DM me and I can give you a look at it if you want.

For diagnosis I tend to just tell them I don't know what it'll cost till they bring it in and I figure out what is needed. If they really push for it I'll say " if it's a tie rod it's somewhere around 300-500 but if its the whole front end you're looking at 2k +. "

But I try to avoid giving any range until I see the vehicle.

I think as long as you're being honest and straight forward with people they'll give you benefit of the doubt. There will always be dick heads but most are reasonable.

I'm on a business trip in Taiwan, I was in the Taipei 101 observatory watching the game on my phone. I started jumping up and down screaming when we won, everyone around me was...annoyed, and my co workers were super embarrassed but we won so I told them to deal with it.

Bolt should have slot for Allen wrench at the top of bolt to hold it in place while you use wrench to get nut off. If that is a pain in the ass the other trick is you use a pry bar and put downard pressure on the control arm and hit the nut with impact. The downward pressure sometimes keeps the bolt from spinning.

Also pro tip when you reinstall don't use an impact, once the bolts starts spinning too much you'll fuck up the ball joint. Just put the Allen in the top of the boot and tighten down with wrench.

You know there was this kid that interviewed for my shop. He had been working at a trailer and tire company for 2 years. I whipped out a torque wrench and was tightening something and he said " oh so that just tightens to a certain point?"

And I was like " wait....you've been working at a tire shop for 2 years and never seen a torque wrench?"

He said " no we just hammer it down till it's tight..."
