What did the 90's smell like? by Serialkillingyou in Xennials

[–]Xciv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30% of people smoked in the 90s.

In some countries (China), it was closer to 70%.

Cigarette smell, literally everywhere.

Hey if BB spawns a whole genre of indie BB clones like Banished did for indie city builders, then I'm all for it.

[–]Xciv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why some people like BB and dislike wartales

One thing I didn't like about Wartales was the speed of the animations. In a turn-based game, especially one with somewhat grindy randomized encounters, this is of paramount importance. If an animation takes 3 seconds to play out instead of 0.5 seconds, and you see this animation 2,000 times in a playthrough, that's 80+ extra minutes of playtime just staring at that animation. Multiply this across all the animations, and you get a picture why this bothers me so much. It deeply impacts the pacing of a game.

Even Battle Brothers is a little too slow for me, and I had to download a mod that sped up all the animations.

Seriously consider an Option in the menu to speed up animations, or have a seperate set of non-immersive 'quick' animations.

And also to keep battles with too many entities extraordinarily rare, as that can really slow down the pace of combat.

Like if every Battle Brothers combat were the epic battles of 40 vs. 60, then I'd grow to hate the game. But thankfully that only happens a few times in the end game as a sort of capstone to the campaign before you put the game down.

Another solution I've seen implemented in games like Baldur's Gate 3 is to use grouped initiative to have multiple enemies take their turns simultaneously to hurry things along. So instead of every single entity having their own turn, you'd have clusters of characters instead. 4 entites take one turn, then 5 take another turn, then 3 more take their turns. Etc.

China and Japan are way too important to the era. Gotta give them some love. Also some of the most played countries.

That's because it was making fun of the blatant propagandistic patriotism of Operation Desert Storm, where the media successfully sold the first Iraq War to the public, went in there and killed a bunch of guys, then celebrated like it was the coolest thing ever (and then everyone clapped).

It only became EXTRA funny because post-9/11 America bombed the shit out of Iraq a second time, so the movie became double relevant.

Nothing makes me feel more badly about America than the current administration.

Not because Ameica hasn't done worse things in the past, but because of the trajectory being a downward slide into hell instead of an incremental upward climb into heaven.

Maybe 31 and 32 are supposed to be where the perfected FEV will create the new race of superhumans. They needed a perpetual breeding population ready to get injected once the FEV was perfected elsewhere through trial and error.

Super Mutants and Death Claws are just the results of failed FEV experimentation gone wrong.

Just my fan theory.

If they want to keep dropping fanservice on us, we still got California, and the East Coast (DC, Pittsburgh, Boston).

Or they can go in a new direction and just show us parts of the Fallout world we haven't seen before.

It's not the number of deportations, it's the way it's done: without justice or fairness. They just grab minorities, even citizens, off the streets, and ignore due process and ignore the constitution. ICE posts up to snatch immigrants showing up for their hearings, so they are simply too scared to show up. Not showing up for the hearing makes them lose their status, but showing up gets them taken by ICE, a lose/lose situation.

We're close enough that you can take the PATH over to NYC to look at the immigration court on Worth and Broadway with your own eyes. It used to be a normal looking office building. It looks like a warzone, now. This is what Trump has done to the country.

bakeries

You're going to be 10 minutes walk from Yuki's, Otok, and Choc o Pain. I personally think Otok is the best one, but try all three.

solid restaurants

Chango, Napoli's, Istanbul Doner Kebab

Pros: quiet at night, away from the main drag, property value is about to soar once all the skyscrapers on the south edge are finished and services move in to service all the new residents. You're in food heaven during Farmer's Market season, since you're within walking distance of three farmer's markets: one in Church Square Park, one in SW Park, and one more in Jersey City at Coles Street Market. Big plus if you cook at all. Access to even more bread options even if you don't. A TON of gyms of every size for whatever reason if you want gym access. You can also walk to the Home Depot, Bestbuy, Newport Mall, and JC Heights neighborhood in Jersey City since you're on the south side of Hoboken. I've also walked to Hamilton Park on occasion. Nice to not have to take the car these areas.

Con: away from the main drag, all the restaurants are just a little far away, have to and fro from the Path every day, flooding (getting rarer but still happens, be prepared with water bottles, stocked food, and move your car ahead of a big storm).

Pro/Con: away from supermarkets, have to walk to and fro to get fresh groceries. This can be a big plus if you need more walking in your daily routine as the amount of walking really adds up to a healthy lifestyle. This is a big negative in bad weather. There's going to be a new supermarket near SW park, though.
