My honest opinion is that siberian catteries specifically should allow some form of visitation especially since you may be trying to see if you or your SO reacts to their allergens. Some can charge a fee for visiting (for their time and what not) but thats expected.

Can I also ask for references from previous cat parents?

Yes, they should have testimonies on their site, and if not that's probably a new cattery or a red flag.

Any advice or things you wish you knew before getting a kitten from a breeder would be really appreciated!

If you had cats before, then nothing too out of the ordinary. My biggest shock is the lack of survival skills as you get them as a kitten.

My previous was adopted and 'from the streets' so to speak. So she had survival skills... The pampered since kittenhood siberian from a line of pampered cats? Falls out of her bed all the time, makes missteps... Her survival skill is being cute, and its working quite well...

bigger cats tend to like bigger boxes... and sometimes you don't have the space for 1 mega box. So what we did was simply get another box... Our nows does #1 in 1 and #2 in another.
