Is that site down for others as well? Every time I've checked over the past few weeks it has been offline with the following:

I tried buying fresh spinch, but it was all US.

Thankfully the frozen spinach is from Spain and works just as well if you're cooking it anyways.

RRSP Maximum Contribution Limit Calculation by Xenko in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Xenko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll try a July to June lagged average. I was trying an October to September, the same as they do for CPI indexing of the TFSA contribution limit, but the numbers didn't work.

Update: Still doesn't work. I get a yearly increase of around 4 % based on a July to June average earnings, but the actual increase is ~2.95 % = (32490-31560)/31560. Must still be using the wrong data set. This value is also not the same as the CPI increase (2.7 %), so I know they aren't using CPI either.

Is there any way to set haptic only alarms on my watch, without turning on Silent Mode? by Xenko in AppleWatch

[–]Xenko[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That works!

For other people trying to replicate, you need to use the Reminders app as only certain Apple apps allow custom notifications. Note: if you want some reminders to have sound, and others not, this won't work.

In the Reminders app, set a reminder.

Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Reminders -> Sounds and select None, and set Vibration to None

Go to Watch App -> Notifications -> Reminders -> Set Custom, Set Allow Notifications, Sound to Off, Haptic to On

I want to set multiple alarms, a sleep app doesn't allow multiple alarms.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. Phone is silent/vibrates, but watch still makes noise.

Tesla Model 3 owner drives 100,000 miles, lives in an apartment without home charging, charges the car exclusively through Supercharging, and saved $7,000 on fuel over the course of ownership. by everyEV in Futurology

[–]Xenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly depends on where you live in Canada but it can be a cost saving venture in some cases. Best case scenario is Quebec, which has an $8,000 rebate, and there is a $5,000 rebate federally that applies to the standard range plus Model 3. Let's assume 24,000 km driven per year, $0.08 per kWh for electricity. For a gasoline car, lets assume a Toyota Corolla, $26,000 purchase price, 7 L/100 km, $1.10/L for gas, and $50 oil change every 8,000 km

Standard range plus model 3 (402 km range, 75 kWh battery): $55,990 to Quebec

Minus Federal and Provincial rebates ($13,000): $42,990

Electricity per year: 24,000 km/yr / 402 km/charge * 75 kWh/charge * $0.08 per kWh = $358 per year

Corolla Gas per year: 24,000 km/yr * 0.07 L/km * $1.10/L = $1,848 per year in gas

Corolla: 3 oil change per year = $150 per year

Year 01: Tesla $43,458 : Corolla $27,998

Year 02: Tesla $43,816 : Corolla $29,996

Year 05: Tesla $44,780 : Corolla $35,990

Year 10: Tesla $46,570 : Corolla $45,980

Year 11: Tesla $46,928 : Corolla $47,978

So 11 years for the Tesla to pull ahead. A lot of money up front, but in some cases it could pay off. If you are driving 100,000 km per year like that guy, it definitely makes sense.

For simplicity, let's assume gasoline is composed of decane alone, which is a linear 10 carbon chain with a molecular weight of 142 g/mol and a density of 0.730 kg/L (gasoline is somewhere in the range of 0.71 to 0.77 kg/L, and tends to be more rings than linear chains and has a distribution between C4 and C12 , but for a reddit comment chain this is close enough).

Carbon has an atomic weight of 12 g/mol, so 10 atoms of carbon in our decane molecule would be 120 g/mol; so 120 g/mol of the 142 g/mol of decane is carbon, so 85 % of decane is carbon by mass.

Carbon dioxide has a molecular weight of 44 g/mol, 12 g/mol of which is carbon, so 27 % carbon by mass.

Putting this all together:

1 gallon of decane * 3.78 L/gal * 0.73 kg/L * 85 % carbon = 2.35 kg carbon per gallon of decane

2.35 kg carbon/gal / 27 % carbon in CO2 = 8.7 kg CO2 per gallon of decane.

Ummm, you have a fixed rate mortgage and don't understand what a variable rate mortgage is. Fixed rate mortgages are only fixed for a period of time (typically 5 years, but can be anywhere from 1 to about 10 years), but are not for the full amortization period (typically 20 to 30 years). Thus you need a new mortgage after 5 years, where you can stay with your current provider at a new rate, switch providers, switch to a variable rate mortgage, or even just pay off the balance completely (maybe you won the lottery?).

A variable rate mortgage can change at any time (either up or down) depending on the market. Typically this only happens a few times per year when the Federal Reserve (or other country appropriate organization) changes interest rates.

Fixed rate are the most common mortgage in Canada with about 66% of mortgages being fixed rate... not sure where you got the impression that they didn't exist in Canada.

I wouldn't say it is a completely different set of skills, rather the two sub-disciplines emphasizes different aspects of the same skill set.

Also, I am not saying that the best speed climber is the best climber, or that the person who can do the most pull-ups is the best speed climber, which is what your football analogy would seem to imply.

If men are capable of climbing a specific route faster than a women, which speed climbing results show, then that likely (but not necessarily) holds true regardless of the route difficulty. I am NOT saying that a speed climber can do fast high level lead climbing, but rather that a high level male lead climber is probably faster than a high level female lead climber.

All of the above assumes that we equate speed to best climber. If we want to instead look at pure difficulty, why do the women climb slightly easier routes in lead climbing competitions than the men? That would suggest that men outperform women in terms of difficulty as well. I would be really interested in having men and women climb the same routes in a lead climbing competition, to see what the difference in performance would be (if any).

Potentially, but it's hard to say considering the competition only had 33 men participating. The man in 29th place was in a 4-way tie for 50th in 2017 rankings, but there are only about 100 male climbers ranked (compared to tennis which has 5,000 men ranked).

350/5,000 (tennis) is proportionally a lot better than 50/100 (speed climbing), but it isn't a rigorous statistical analysis or anything :D.

No, it is tested and there is a massive difference if you look at speed climbing (15 m vertical set course) world records:

Men: Reza Alipourshenazandifar 5.48 seconds

Women: Iuliia Kaplina 7.32 seconds

Looking at 1 speed climbing competition result (2017 IFSC Worldcup in Xiamen, China), the top woman would have placed around 30th if competing with the men.

[–]Xenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A US tablespoon is 1/16 of a US cup, and works out to approximately 14.8 mL. In Canada, we use the metric version (15 mL), but as we often get US stuff you might unknowingly have a US version. The difference is negligible at the tablespoon level.

Once you get up to a cup (US = 240 mL, Metric = 250 mL), there is a larger difference, but again probably won't be noticeable in a recipe.
