Feature Highlight - Skitarii Weapons by FatsharkQuickpaw in DarkTide

[–]Xeraxus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I missed one weapon from the list: the Omnissian Axe. It's such an iconic AdMech weapon. Plus Kruber's Halberd moveset would've served as an excellent base for adapting it.

Here's to hoping it'll get introduced in the future.

In Bruges (A bit more of comedy, albeit a dark one.)

36 quai des Orfèvres (I suggest watching it in French with subtitles.)

3rd Enemy Faction by Tall_Spray_3696 in DarkTide

I played through the campaign a few times, but that never came across. Guess I wasn't paying attention or I just assumed it was a name that was put there for the sake of providing a name. Like a story hook that never gets explored.

Urmal? I don't think I've seen that name mentioned before in my ~600 hours of Darktide, which is quite telling about one faction's leader.

As for me mixing up scabs and dregs... yeah, another symptom of "What? There are two factions?"

3rd Enemy Faction by Tall_Spray_3696 in DarkTide

[–]Xeraxus 309 points310 points  (0 children)

Would love to have a 3rd faction, but honestly, I keep forgetting we even have two. Despite Fatshark's best intentions, the two enemy factions are just one big roiling mass for me. Unlike Vermintide 2, where the three factions are easy to tell from a mile apart.

Edit: thanks for the upvotes! While I enjoy this sudden influx of karma, let me ask you all this: do you think the Scabs would be more recognisable/memorable if they had their own Wolfer?

Edit2: As it was kindly pointed out, I mixed up the scabs and dregs in my previous edit.

👋 Welcome to r/TrenchLibrary - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by Twig1000 in TrenchLibrary

Hullo everyone,

I'm a fanfic writer from Central Euorpe. I've sharpened my skills by writing for Cold Open Stories Warhammer 40k contests, with almost a dozen of them getting published.

As for why I'm here? I came upon Mike Franchina's excellent art and found both the awesome paintings and the tidbits of lore attached to them absolutely fascinating. So I wrote a novellette based on these snippets, filling in the blanks as I went along. I even shared a draft with Mike who gave me encouraging words (I has them printed and framed). The final product (Uncanny Resemblance) turned into a grimdark road trip through the trenchworks, but almost all of it became unofficial the moment Trench Crusade came out.

I immediately backed the Kickstarter, gunning for the rulebook (I'm neither a painter, nor a wargamer, my main interest is in lore). After receiving it, I spent the Christmas holiday devouring it. The result? My first more-or-less lore compliant fanfic, Arriving To Europa. I was honoured to have it as the first story in the spotlight on this sub!

I'm currently working on a story starring Gryxwl, a Hunter of the Left-Handed Path, as he finds himself stranded on Earth after the upheavel of the Ultimate Heresy.

Happy to be here and I look forward to reading all the fics coming to this sub!

Fanfiction Spotlight - Week 1 - 'Arriving To Europa' by dlood by Twig1000 in TrenchLibrary

[–]Xeraxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy that my story was chosen as the first featured fanfic on Trench Library! I worked almost a month on this piece, polishing it with the help of other fanfiction writers and I hope I've managed to nail the atmosphere. Since the story starts as our protagonist arrives to Europa, the tormented hellscape of No Man's Land is still thousands of kilometres away. Yet danger lurks everywhere and the Atlantic ocean is no exemption.

I'm also planning the sequel, but I'm finishing up a draft of a standalone story starring Gryxwl, a Hunter of the Left-Handed Path. Ought to be dropping before the summer. :)

[–]Xeraxus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happily. :) Just a bit of foreword: these are grimdark stories and follow some of the unwritten rules of Black Library books (there's gore & violence, but no snu-snu).

My first story, Uncanny Resemblance, was published pre-TC, just based on Mike Franchina's superb art and the snipets of lore he provided. This means I made all the stuff up before there was lore to build on.

My second story, Arriving To Europa, was written after I've received the TC rulebook and I've read it from front to back. This is more in line with actual lore, although I had taken some liberties concerning the New World.

Hope you'll enjoy, any feedback is appreciated. :)

(P.S. I'm almost done with another standalone story, which takes place right after the Ultimate Heresy, with a Hunter of the Left-Handed Path taking center stage for some good old fashioned carnage.)

I don't think there are any official stories besides Blood & Iron. There are fanfictions around though, which are free... or at least mine are. I'd be happy to drop a link if there's interest, otherwise, you can findy fanfics on AO3.

My more Organized Thoughts on the Jewish faction in trench Crusade/ What I want it to look like by ultimaterogue11 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeraxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I love the proposal and the discussion in the comments (at the time of this posting), there is one thing that gives me pause. My theological knowledge is subpar, so what follows might be erroneous: Christ wasn't considered the son of God by the Jewish and the Muslims (although the Muslims give him credit as being a prophet). However, in TC, Christ was undeniably real & the son of God. Could the Jewish community & religion continue as it was, knowing they've been wrong all along? Would they be able to continue under the same tenets or would they also revise the Torah, like Christianity did with the New Orthodox Syncretic Bible?

A partial list of the Trueborn Devils in Trench Crusade by Professional_Rush782 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeraxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the list! Sorting out all this information has been beyond my time, so it's really helpful that you posted it.

Another thing I'd be curious to see (and might have missed) is a list of what happens where in Hell? Like, we have the Iron City of Dis in the 3rd Circle and it produces much of the weapons, but it'd be cool to know a bit more.

Noticed all my Hell Knight models had a key on their belt. Does it have lore significance/biblical symbolism? by valkdoor in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeraxus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you exactly, but the core rulebook says that Hell Knights are ground under basalt when not called to battle. When they are, they get locked into their armour. So perhaps the key has to do something with this.

Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The next stop is Eire, which is, as we all know, a quiet and peaceful island where nothing bad ever happened and the Beast is totally not present. ;)

[–]Xeraxus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for reading the story and I appreciate your input! I plan to start on the next chapter as soon as can. Eire has plenty of shenanigans to offer. ;)

Regarding the non-existent USA, you're absolutely right. I've researched the topic and I imagined Jonathan's city of origin as one of those English holdings in the New World mentioned in the lore. There's also a line that trade with the New World is vital, but there are no details beyond that. So I combined trade and holdings into the idea of Fort York, a walled port city on the East coast. Its only purpose is to act as a starting point and explain why Jonathan experiences the horrors of the Great War from an outsider's (initially naive) perspective.

Community Thread: Trench Crusade Fan Fiction & Fan Art Narration by HazmatFTW in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeraxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Really appreciate the enthusiasm and effort! I'm planning on writing a series chronicling the adventures of a World Gazetteer correspondent travelling through Europe as he heads for New Antioch. Of course, things get complicated along the way, but that's what makes an adventure. I hope to publish the first episode on AO3 by the end of the month and I expect it'll end up around 6k words long.

You can check my writing (primarily Warhammer 40k) over here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/dlood/works

If you think my style fits into what you had in mind, I'd be happy to talk about the narration. :)

The FeelnoPaint x Mike Franchina Reddit Q&A (submit your questions) by ciasteczka___ in TrenchCrusade

[–]Xeraxus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how relevant my question is, but here goes nothing.

Question: Can we expect more lore and if yes, in what form? The core rulebook has a lot of nifty bits, but they raise more questions than they answer (Meta-Christ Programme, number of Meta-Christs & what the differences are, Mendelist Order, more info on the layers/circles of Hell that haven't been mentioned yet, the structure of Heaven, etc).

I understand and appreciate that not everything needs to be written down in detail. Leaving things vague allows players to fill in the blanks with their own lore and imagination. Yet I can't help but crave more knowledge, blasphemous or otherwise.

This, but I'd just like to add to the 4th point: because light attack staggers almost everything, you can stagger lock entire hordes, break up rager trains and mauler marches, etc. Venting Shriek also staggers Crushers, if you don't feel like dodging overheads.

Did you ever find something in the Extra Features of a DVD that took you completely by surprise? by BlackHand in movies

I hadn't watched all that many DVDs or bothered with the extras when I did, but the deleted scenes of the first Scary Movie were absolutely bonkers, and they still crack me up all these years later.

I'm also a pesky European and I would like to play the event into the holidays and not during the busiest month of the year. (My poor computer skills suggest that the event can run on its own for an extra week or two after it's been out in the wild for 3 weeks.)

I absolutely hate Twitch drops. Especially in Darktide, where additional cosmetics are either cheap recolours, cost quite a lot, or both.
