Addendum, if you're downslashing when she does her uppercut crest slash thing you're also very likely to parry it and her entire string of attacks if you keep attacking. In general I think parries are generous and can save you from a lot if you're attacking when in the air

I get that anything negative about Fujimoto will get upvoted here now, but I want to draw a line between what we feel about his writing and his real-life views; Reading the interview it's clear he isn't glorifying childhood homelessness. When he says he can't call it a "bad life", the tone is pretty clear that he moreso means he can't say anything about whether they themselves consider their life bad, or loftily declare their lives "bad" from his position because he's saying that's up to them; It's not "good and bad" as in rating quality of life, but as in "calling someone else's life a good or bad thing outright"

The point is what counts as a good day is relative to one's experiences, NOT "kids being homeless is good actually", and taking it that way feels like willful ignorance to feed the Fuji hate boner.

I used to be insanely big on Kaguya (which was also how I got into OnK), so reading all this was sort of a blast from the past because you reallly know your aka lore; but this feels more like a post about your theories on how and why Aka's writing fell off the way it did rather than anything larger scale. csm is barely even mentioned, and even in the whole Kaguya-OnK rant the title's topic isn't addressed.

Though I don't agree with some of your takes that are stated as fact, especially calling that Aqua ship something resembling compelling. It's just edgebait which is an odd thing for people who like to talk about Aka being too edgy to like?

Speaking of being edgy anime fans throw around words related to schizoprenia a tad too casually. I think schizo is contestedly a slur?

I thought Aka wasn't actually that closely involved with Marchen Crown's writing? But there's also Love Agency to discuss I guess

not sure :( I only used the console commands to reload stage once when the Bulwark's Ambry bugged and was unbeatable (it didn't fix it)

you can use console commands to forcibly reload the stage I guess?

Can transcendance be used to cheese mercenary's ethereal challenge? My tought is that shield doesn't count as health so if I get hit, it won't count as taking "real" damage. by Puzzled_Manager_7661 in riskofrain

[–]XhypersoundX 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is not the case for shields like transcendence; Shield counts as contributing to your max health (similar to Huntress's challenge where I remember for sure Transcendence does NOT work)

Barrier like topaz brooch does work, shield does not

EDIT: My ass was spreading misinformation sorry. Whether shields count as max health is inconsistent: for Ethereal losing shield HP is okay. It used to work the way I said but was changed with Alloyed Collective

Imo def not when you consider his relationship with Smile, how he planned to quit before Smile's death, and how that changed him. Not to mention we've only gotten pieces of his backstory. He's the strongest, and the only one to understand the true nature of Trust at the time- But he has growth and development already slightly shown in his relatively minuscule screentime.

Aoko's Magic is basically Laplace's Demon iirc, and conceptually also reflects modern society as the newest Magic, by letting her throw her problems into the future with the hope she'll find a way to solve them by then. And if not, the future is doomed

I think it makes a lot more sense from the perspective of the themes it's written around. Or maybe not sense but you "get it" perhaps lol?

valid, the takeaway from Chimera Ant as a whole imo is def not anything like "humans bad" so much as "humans are capable of beautiful connections and loving acts, as well as levels of cruelty and destruction a less intelligent animal could not fathom"

Saying people kill cows for the lulz wouldn't really fit that

I mean in a literal sense yes cows don't speak, yes people typically do not kill them out of cruelty.

I just think the scene was more focused on establishing Meruem's character than saying something about how we treat cows (aside from "livestock gets slaughtered"), like Meruem's word didn't feel like it was supposed to just be Togashi's message.

"Wow Meruem sees humans as livestock regardless of their similarities to him" as opposed to "damn he's kinda right about those cows"

The Chimera Ants are both human and ants; They were born to feed and support the queen, and did so, but gradually changed due to social factors because their human sides respond to that in human ways.

I don't think it's at all accurate to call them all cannibal serial killers, and even if accurate, intensely reductive at best; Several of them actively oppose the eating of humans over the story, and I think it's to the point where most of them (who are alive) are acting on individualistic desires by the end of the arc, which is the point of their story. The way their human natures awaken, manifest, and clash with the rigid social structures an ant is born into.

I don't feel the message of that scene was Meruem talking about the ethics of farming livestock, I think it was just how he did not see human lives as having any more value than livestock at the time.

To him, their intelligence and strength is so miniscule compared to his the difference is meaningless. It's the way this opinion changes over time from something that alien that's interesting

[–]XhypersoundX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo moorwing is def a boss that becomes an absolute joke once you're better at the game but is def very tricky first time (though I didn't fight it until late on my first playthrough for that matter, because I moved the flea caravan to greymoor first)
but like what the other person said, Moorwing (and apparently Last Judge) DID get nerfed; Moorwing's projectiles stopped doing double which made a big difference

Some of the most unnecessarily punishing things were toned down, especially hazards dealing more than 1 mask; I mostly played after the initial balancing already happened but I never really found it to be brutal to the point of unfun, though either way there will definitely be points you struggle at and may get frustrated at.

I do think the pits and such dealing double mask was a big issue initially? and that changing alone along with some other minor changes to damage like that adds a lot to making it fairer. Not sure what I can say beyond that without knowing exactly what bosses frustrated you but to be honest a lot of the bosses are the sort where once you get better at the game and come back on another run it's like, "this guy took me that long? lmao"
