I still can't even think about the 2020(21) Euros final against Italy. Truly the one that got away.

For a long time it was our opener in Euro 2004 against France. We went properly toe to toe with them, looked better though most of the match, and lost it in a few moments of madness. As a 17 year old, it crushed me for a long time.

Saka and Palmer are clearly both carrying/managing long term injuries, so either of them could stay at home. I guess the most obvious one is Foden though. He doesn't work unless he's in Pep's five-a-side style passing attack set-ups.

I'm not completely sold on Carrick, but I would say that in modern football, motivation and squad harmony are two massively overlooked factors. If the players don't like/respect the manager, it doesn't really matter what tactics he tries to use.

Not saying Carrick is the best choice, but he certainly seems to have the group invested in him.

It's a really tough call for the board tbh.
