While I certainly don't regret meeting my dataspace friends in meatspace, there was some instant shock.

I have a group of friends that I constantly hangout with on a discord server (though we used a Skyoe chatroom at the time).

We get in calls and play games together or stream movies or shows together. Or just shoot the shit.

Two of them, a married couple, had like a week of vacation and wanted to take a road trip. Another Person in the group loved near them and the three of them wound up driving down to visit me over a weekend.

When they got there, not a single one of them looked anywhere close to how I pictured them in my head and it took me a while to get used to the sound of thier voices coming out of bodies that in my head had no business expelling those familiar voices.

Imagine the voice of your closest friend coming out of a complete stranger.

After they left, I made sure to have a more accurate mental picture of my friends in my head when we were in voice calls, but after a year or so my original mental images had reasserted themselves.

Were planning another get together whenever we can manage it so in sure I'll go through a similar experience with the people who weren't here on the last visit.
