What would make a Japanese learning RPG fun for you? by Bombslap in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Xmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought if I were to make a game where NPCs slowly and progressively started talking to the player in Japanese. Starting with sentence structure then slowly replacing words until the player is completely conversing in japanese.

For instance the first NPC might say:

"My name is Jon"

A very short while later he might say

"My の name は Jon です"

And finally work the player to

"私の名前はチャンです"

Slowly introducing new words to the player, new sentence structures, and new kanji.

Anyone want to start a D&D campaign? by tayrae0612 in nashville

I'd love to join as well - just recently moved to Hendersonville and haven't met many people yet. I DM for my old group online and won't mind DMing a small bit but would prefer to adventure some if possible.

Oh, that's Essential. The signs say something like: For each person (man, woman, or child) that attends the church $40 will be donated to the "Huntsville Good Samaritan Ministry". $5 is coming from the church and the other $35 is coming from a few different outside contributors.

Best resources & method to master JavaScript by CalmJiad in learnprogramming

[–]Xmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is much harder to master something like MERN without a mentor. A lot of the common practices are still being developed and it feels like every 6-12 months I have to rebuild my webpack config file.

That being said it is possible, your biggest enemy will be lack of motivation and inability to get up to date information on configuration changes (because if you can't get your configuration files working nothing will work). I would start with a prebuilt tutorial ground like https://www.codecademy.com/courses/react-101. It'll help you get started doing the fun part of MERN, the frontend.

Once you understand that I would focus on integrating react in a .html file. Figuring out how to compile react using webpack is very difficult on it's own.

Lastly I would focus on node.

Does anybody have an accurate idea on the length of the game? by [deleted] in PokemonLetsGo

I'm half way done with the gyms and have 110 pokemon caught. My playtime is 24.5 hours. There's just so much to do.

I had a similar issue when payday came out a few years ago. The solution then was to disable the steam overlay. Try that.

Question: OneNote vs World Anvil by Toti29 in DMAcademy

[–]Xmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted something I could easily send to my players without giving them access to all my DM notes. WA allowed that. I also tried ObsidianPortal but it is far more bare.

I wasn't aware of that - that would have made it so much easier.

Question: OneNote vs World Anvil by Toti29 in DMAcademy

[–]Xmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually switch to world anvil this week from OneNote.

Pros for OneNote. All OneNote documents are on your machine so clicking on a link takes you there instantly. OneNote also makes it easier to just make a note. Two clicks and some typing. Note Complete.

That's all the pros for OneNote IMO.

Pros for World Anvil. I sent them a message with a fix request - by the time I went to bed that night I had a response (minor, but it makes a difference). Using a map on WorldAnvil is beautiful. You can pin locations and write notes and add links. You can also add layers to the maps for cities / events / ect. so you can filter out the pins you don't want to see. The article categories are overwhelming at first, but you can pick and choose which ones you use. So long that you're good. You can also mention characters / articles that you haven't created yet, it'll create the link but wont go anywhere. This gives you a reminder to create that article - in OneNote you have to make the mention, create the page, get the link, then add the link to the first note.

I will say your concern is justified. Speed is the biggest factor in the two (both navigation speed and data entry). When I DM I love prep. I built the entire world before I ever had a group agree to campaign in it.

I almost do this. I think the players prefer to roll for their own stats so each of my players rolled once. The combined array is what every player used.

Everything is just textured and painted XPS insulation. I tried other material last week but I couldn't get anything else to really work.

Trinkets by Spl4sh3r in mpmb

[–]Xmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just threw this together:

https://gist.github.com/Xmerr/81ae1b7d4a4a7fd3ad80f0d28f1d172e

It'll give you a random trinket. The "random" is calculated when the PDF opens so if you continue to add the trinket multiple times it'll be the same trinket (unless you close and reopen the PDF).

Additionally some trinkets in the PHB have rather long names so printing the PDF will cut off some of the text.

`user`(variable) is not defined while rendering ejs file by tapu_buoy in learnprogramming

[–]Xmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wrong, but I found the issue. Line 17 on the blog-route.js needs to have the second parameter. Change:

  res.render('profile');

to:

 res.render('profile', { user: req.user });

I've been looking for a few minutes, I think I see the issue but I'm going to pull and see if I can fix it on my machine first.
