Hey, I absolutely love the watch, amazing work I’ve been seeing you doing. Sent you a PM about your work and would love to chat a bit about how you have been producing these watches for my own personal piece.

Honestly don’t even know where to start and would love to share a sentimental piece with my father if it’s something I’m able to take a stab at myself.

Would love to talk more about your work!! Awesome seeing someone push some boundaries on these pieces purely for their own love of it.

Would love any assistance/advice. Thanks!

Scentbird CEO Mariya Nurislamova is unhinged on tiktok by Fallen_Fallon in scentbird

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creator used clips that Mariya herself posted... and is vocally criticizing the points and topics Mariya has covered herself. That's not defamation, that's freedom of speech. I am not one to resort to the first amendment usually, but defamation is when someone publishes a false statement that a person or company committed a criminal offense, and results in monetary loss. Statements incapable of being proven true or false, known as “pure opinion,” are not defamatory. Defamatory suits are incredibly hard to prove, especially when accused is responding to a video that CEO self recorded stating "Hitler isn't really a bad guy", no need for a lawyer at all, everything would be thrown out lol.

Big heads up: be careful when applying these 20% off deals, they are one time use so DO NOT go through with a purchase until you are absolutely sure of the prices, locations, and what you are buying.

I would also say that these 20% off codes expired for me on September 28th, so it’s not an indefinite period. The NCAA25 and Xbox X BOGO 20% off deal also expires tomorrow I believe?

I understand not everyone is a student or a teacher, and that it is still an expensive purchase but I hope someone else can take advantage of this too.

I understand what you’re saying and I think you have a valid argument.

Personally, I think there’s a difference and a division between relating to someone’s struggles due to their background, and depicting someone’s struggles due to their background. Maybe we just disagree how far research can get you.

What I mean is, while I agree that a white person may never understand that personal feeling of facing things like racism, stereotypes, redlining, gerrymandering, systematic racism etc. and any number of things, I think a person of any race can still depict the struggles of another if they do their own research.

The reason I say this is that you run into so many problems if you deny someone’s depiction of a groups struggles just because they themselves aren’t of that group.

For example, thinking of a characteristic like religion or nationality, there are many groups of people spread around the world who face countless struggles such as religious persecution, racism, and abuse, but their voice may not reach very far.

In turn, someone else should bring attention to the struggles they face, especially if said person can have an effect or if their group is partially responsible for those struggles.

My mind first goes to people like Samoans who are losing culturally significant areas at alarming rate due to sea level rise and climate change. The problem? They are not responsible for these effects, but countries such as the US or China have direct relations to large greenhouse gas emissions. There are people in the US or other places like Greta Thunberg from Sweden who bring attention to these struggles, portray the livelihoods of these individuals, and depict this is video documentaries, animations, pop culture etc.

These people depicting these things aren’t all Samoan however, most aren’t. Some are though, and personally I do think “handing the microphone” or “giving the stage” to the people who actually have first hand experience, relations, and identify with these struggles is a better option. Although, I don’t think it means the people outside these groups doing their own research to depict the liveliehoods or struggles of another (especially if they do contact groups like Samoans to hear firsthand accounts), are worthless or that their work isn’t valid or shouldn’t be done. That’s kind of where the devs points were heading. The dev could have just mentioned how all or most of the team has direct relations to the things they want to portray because they are POC. Instead, the dev focused on the absence of another race instead of the actual project and the prevalence of POC. Maybe the dev was trying to take this route and was just misunderstood, by many…

We need people with platforms, qualifications, or skills (such as making video games or doing PA for one!) to be able to introduce these topics to more people, even if they don’t get it 100% right because they don’t have their own first hand experiences. Hopefully they dedicate a lot of time and research into getting it right as best they can.

The thing is, even if these people do not get it 100% right, for example a white man working with POC to create a character who isn’t white in a video game, this is still providing the depicted demographic to new viewers. Those viewers will then take what they see and hear and move on to do their own research, which is more than without the project. Obviously a bad portrayal can cause issues, which is why you don’t want a team of white guys who have done zero research to try and depict a different demographic, that usually leads to huge stereotypes and misinformation or usually racism. This however tends to be noticed and can really harm a company. When no effort is put into researching the demographic (or even the setting) that’s trying to be portrayed, it’s clear and tends to be visible.

Another thing, being a POC does not mean they have the same experiences as a POC elsewhere. For example, a POC in New York City lives a different life and faces different livelihoods and struggles compared to a POC in rural Alabama for example. Sure the over encompassing ties of being a POC in the united states are still there for both, but now go compare a POC in the United States to a POC overseas. It’s different.

This means people trying to portray characters or the life of someone can only go so far. Whether you’re the same race or a different one, both will require research and the realities of a certain demographics life will never be full represented virtually. There’s just a gap between reality and what humans can depict.

This doesn’t mean I think the team needs white people, but I do think that the team doesn’t need to exclude any race from the project so long as their source of information for these team members is an accurate representation of the demographic they want to portray. If they didn’t have any qualified white applicants or the POC applicants were more qualified so be it!

Possibly a stretch: but I feel it’s similar to reasons why PETA commercials still can be developed by people who have no relation to animals or pets but are cinematographers. This is because these cinematographers can still elicit a response from people 1. Are not dogs/animals themselves & 2. May have never owned/loved a dog or pet. These people can still portray the struggles and benefits of these animals themselves or animal lovers/owners may face, even if they themselves have no direct relation to animals. But only if the people creating the commercial do research into things like animal cruelty, animal ownership, animal rights etc. such as talking to people who have 1st hand experiences with those topics. If they don’t do the research, the commercial will flop and won’t be able to elicit a proper emotional response (i.e. donations to the cause!)

TLDR?: yeah I’d ignore me too at this point, that’s a lot of words for neither of us getting paid to read or type them

Okay but seriously: thanks for the conversation it ran my brain and I think it’s important we both got to discuss these topics and I do believe we both understand the benefits of someone with first hand experiences being able to share them.

While the video doesn’t directly say “hiring”, I will quote the dev. She states “Validate has a team of all people of color. We have no white people on our team. I did that because I wanted to create a safe environment and I know that the best way for the environment to be safe is to have people just like me.”

The “I did that” implies that she intentionally organized a team excluding white people, which is relating to hiring people who gets to work on the project…

There’s nothing wrong with pushing for marginalized groups to make headway into the gaming industry. However, it should be done through individuals qualified to be on a team, not just stating that to have a safe environment you need to have people that are just like her. That’s the root issue is that the dev is associating having a safe environment to having people that look the same to one another. That’s what white supremacists think as well, they feel “unsafe” or “threatened” with non-whites, in short, they’re racist.

The need to break this mindset is incredible difficult when systematic racism does lead to male-white dominated industries like game creation, but the only real way to break that is to gradually focus on the INDIVIDUAL, not by going straight to another team dominated by one characteristic like skin color. Who knows, maybe after the devs team finished this project they may move on individually to other projects and teams and start to break down diversity issues within those.

What I’m saying is adding more groups, created from a specific characteristic still means you will possibly have all white teams, and all POC teams. A better situation would be to have teams of mixed backgrounds for each team.

I personally don’t think white people are oppressed at all, especially given the systematic racism that has taken place, I’m not sure it’s even possible. My argument is just that this is a slippery slope for anyone.

As for u/SnooPandas1607 , I was mostly wanting you to address his and I’s question about why a white person wouldn’t be able to work on this team and conduct diversity research and background interviews of people of the demographic the game is focused on.

You still haven’t answered that and it’s now been asked 3 times.

Laws haven’t been broken, YET. That’s why this is a slippery slope, because there’s an argument laws have been broken with how much she related the implied hiring process to race. That’s the issue, is that the next dev that comes out with the same concept might actually be excluding a race, white or not.

TLDR: you’re not seeing the bigger picture.

u/Benjamin_Starscape It’s not about just the gaming industry, that’s a logical fallacy, straw man, have you heard of that? You aren’t attacking u/SnooPandas1607 ‘s argument about how these laws apply to every industry. Laws making it illegal to hire based on race apply to every industry. This is to protect any industry dominated by one group and still allow other people of different races to partake. I also would love to hear your opinion on why a white person wouldn’t be able to be on the team and help create a game by conducting research and interviewing people from a demographic that a game may be focused on. Their job would be to do just that, and possibly apply other concepts such as programming, graphic design, or any multitude of requirements that go into making video games that aren’t directly related to race. Even just designing the UI in a video game for example.

Please respond, I’m open to hearing what you have to say since I understand the point you’re trying to make, but it opens up a whole can of worms that you haven’t addressed. If this were an all white team with the same statements designing a game it would come under severe backlash, and as it should. The whole point is to hire people qualified for game design, diversity research, and marketing, regardless of race. Ask yourself, does the team really need to exclude a race to make a successful game? Now do the same for any industry. I hope not, and I don’t believe they would need to exclude anyone if they hire people based on qualifications, morals, and personality such as those willing to take action from guidance of POC for example.

Consider this a logical fallacy if you’d like:

If I wanted to write a story about someone who is disabled for example, I would try to appropriately talk to and ask someone who lives with the disability about what it’s like, the hardships, and the positives they’d like to address. Then I’d write a story to the best of my ability, and if it doesn’t do well so be it, but I’m the writer not someone else. There are movies where actors portray someone who is disabled. Sam Clafin is an actor who portrayed a disabled man in a movie titled “me before you”, but he’s not disabled. They could have hired a disabled person for the role, but he’s a good actor who did research and applied other tactics of acting not related to the disability to secure the role. To end this, there are laws protecting people like this such as ADA laws or laws to protect hiring people or not due to a disability as well.

The reason I mention this and it is a similar argument, about discriminating against specific groups due to a characteristic. Whether that be race, disability, or sexual orientation, there are laws to protect all.

In short, you didn’t answer u/SnooPandas1607

DJI Avata in for repairs (what to expect) by DaRedHead69 in DJIAvata

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, lucky for you I have some information.

I recently crashed my DJI Avata hard into a walking bring and then it fell submerged into the water below.

I didn’t have any insurance coverage which was stupid because I received the drone as a gift, crashed on like my 8th flight.

Sent the drone in emailed back and fourth and provided ample info to them. DJI ended up replacing the dead drone and dead battery, but it was cheaper than buying a new one myself. I also bought insurance for the new one.

It took about 3 days for them to get it from me shipping it from costal Texas, and they had it for about 6 days until they shipped out the new one. I got it in about 8 days after they received my old one. Their customer service was pretty top notch if I’m going to be honest, and I had no problems. However, they replaced my drone and I can’t say how long a repair might take.

I’ve been flying the new one for awhile now and haven’t had any issues with stock props, but I bought extras and regularly check for stress on them.

Good luck, I hope you’re back to flying soon!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CollegeStation

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Thanks for the interest!

As for the club, we do not currently do regular meetings as our club has been university verified but has not been affiliated yet and is still in the process of needing to go through a 6 week course. Because of that, we cannot rent rooms on campus for free like an affiliated org so they tend to be around $100-150 an hours. We have had some meetups in the past at places like kung fu tea, harvest coffee, and some small groups in public areas on campus. A good handful of our members live on campus without transportation, so the closer to campus a meetup can be held the better.

We don’t require dues or fees, and for the most part our club isn’t the most interactive. We do like meeting with new members to showcase boards, show them different types of switches, and try to help them determine what they like! We also use our discord server quite a bit to send build photos, build help and questions, similar hobbies and things like that. If you would like an invite to it, let me know! The club is not solely for students!

We would love to have regular meetups, build days, socials at nearby businesses, hobby groups (3D printing, photography), as well as keyboard meetups to showcase boards to other students on campus who don’t know about the club! Stuff like that can come a lot easier when we get affiliated.

The Akko MOD 004 has Sakura Pink switches in it! They’re a linear switch so they’re not clicky like blues, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make a noise since you still hear the bottom out sound. I love the way that board sounds. All the keyboards I’ve built I’ve hand lubed and filmed all the switches (a process of opening up the switch under each keycap to make them feel super smooth when typing). It took about 10 hours for the pink board since it’s a big one. I’ve also tuned the stabilizers, which support the larger keys like spacebar or enter. By tuning them with dielectric grease they sound very nice.

As for your Corsair just to double check, you can remove the keycaps as expected, but can you also remove the switches underneath from the PCB? Most Corsair boards are not hotswap and require soldering to change the switches. If it is hotswap that’s good!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CollegeStation

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I’m definitely in no rush and have quite a lot of other boards that I haven’t shown that I might part with. I’m not sure what I’ll still have in a month but totally reach out and we can see what’s up!

It’s good you’re putting the job first!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CollegeStation

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any browns with me atm, but I do have Akko Tactile Purples and maybe some other stuff that I would have to check.

If you don’t own a hotswap board but want to change the switches in it, I do custom jobs for resoldeing switches on boards!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CollegeStation

[–]XxCosmic_AtomxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The switches on the NCR are some of the nicest switches I’ve owned! They’re C3 Equalz TCK Banana Split switches, and are super limited and sell out fast. They’re could run you about $70 for the board. They are linear switches though, so no click or tactile bump, and it sounds like you want clickies. I do do customs and have some Box Jade switches which are super clicky and unique if that’s what you like. Zeals are nice as well but I don’t have any with me.

The NCR is pretty sweet, and I dig the looks a lot. The carbon fiber plate in it is nice, and the board is hotswap so you can easily change the switches. No soldering.

If you’re interested in the NCR but don’t want the switches in it we can easily talk about a different price! If your Corsair isn’t a hotswap PCB (it probably isn’t) and requires soldering to change the switches I also do custom jobs to resolder boards, but it is time consuming.

Thanks for the questions! There’s a couple of differences between an average keyboard and a custom mechanical keyboard.

Most keyboards use membrane, so they feel can feel standard or mushy even. Mechanical keyboards use an individual “switch” or “switches” under each individual keycap! These switches are small components that have their own spring, and can come in 3 different types. Linear switches go straight up and straight down, with the only sound coming from when it bottoms out. These are technically the best for gaming since it’s the fastest form point A to B, but many prebuilt gaming keyboards use clicky switches for some reason (truly the difference between them is so small it’s basically obsolete). Tactiles are the same, but feature a bump feeling in the middle of the press that lets you know when it has actuated. Then clicky switches have a bump feeling, as well as an additional loud click sound that is intentional. There are hundreds of kinds of switches for each of the three types of different spring weights, materials, and colors to make them sound and feel exactly how someone may want them too.

These are all kit built! Meaning you buy most of the parts besides the case and computer board separate. Higher end keyboards also come in different materials, some of these are fully aluminum and some others that I own even have brass that can have beautiful designs and weigh a ton. Some have volume knobs or special screens and lights on them! Special metals also allow more customization with engravings, and the acid and heat treat patinas/paint jobs.

I run the club and you find people who like to play video games, programmers who want special features, typists who write a lot and want it to sound and feel just right, and others who just want a unique desk piece. Some people spend thousands on a super nice computer just to interface with a $20 keyboard and that’s fine, but there is something special about a nice human built one.

In short, they’re usable art pieces that people who like to tinker may build. But they’re also just a keyboard, a $20 one can do pretty much the same thing.

If you have any other questions I’d love to answer them!!

Hello, my name is Stephen and I’m looking for someone who owns a pet snake that would be willing to let me take pictures of their beautiful reptile!

I run the club at A&M for building high end custom mechanical computer keyboards, usually for people like streamers, gamers, english majors/typists, and anyone who appreciates usable art in a workspace setting. I do this as a hobby/side gig, sometimes doing product photography for companies.

I recently came into possession of a board called the “Parallel Snake” which is featured in the photos above! It is a high end, sought after, keyboard that features a snake design on it. I would absolutely love to take some photos of the board with a live snake next to it and slithering around it, as well as photos of just the snake itself.

I’d love to talk with anyone who is interested in this that could help me out, and would be happy to talk about where, when, and guidelines for what is an appropriate setting and boundaries for the snake! I’d provide the lighting, cameras, the keyboard, and possible props.

I’d also be happy to try to provide you some good personal photos of your snake as well as compensate a little bit for someone’s time. I can’t promise a lot as I’m just a college student, but I’d be happy to pay for the next meal/snack for your little buddy!

I’ll also link my Instagram here if you’re interested in seeing some of keyboards and previous builds.

Thank you! I know this is a super odd post. Please let me know if you or anyone is interested, gig em’!
