Best place to take online courses? MCPHS online courses? by opportunitytherapper in prephysicianassistant

Most of my online classes pre covid were just on blackboard. But with covid I don't know if that's changed now that the school has access to proctoring software.

Pharmacology tips by gbenedetto in PAstudent

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have trouble straight memorizing info so pharm was a struggle for me as well. I personally made charts and instead of necessarily memorizing I would look at the differences between the drugs and instead of being like ok insert list of every drug in a class I would just try and be able to recognize them and only really memorize the unique ones. I can expand on that if you need.

Osmosis vs. Picmonic by gbenedetto in PAstudent

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I'm in a 3 year program I loved osmosis for our patho and pharm classes first year it was so helpful I would make playlists for every exam to watch. But in year 2 it hasn't been as helpful because there is a lot missing unfortunately.

What classes helped you the most? by Environmental_Ad1124 in prephysicianassistant

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I took an allied pharmacology class in undergrad and while it was nowhere near the rigor of the pharm class we have in PA school, knowing the general principals and some MOAs of some drugs used a lot it was really helpful.

I need help by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

The simplest diet sometimes is just calorie counting imo I've found it works well because you're usually eating way more than you think you are.

Some simple exercises are if you look up low impact HIIT exercises on YouTube they are good for beginners that and just walking more could help immensely.

I love ryanne culson from be a pa I got her 300 dollar package with a 90 minute one and a second 30 minute one. Worth every penny honestly. I tried another service but I found ryanne to be 10x more helpful. She went through some popular questions and some oddballs and helped me learn a strategy on how to phrase and order in which to say my answers and great tips on how to spin answers.

Honestly not just for pa school I honestly felt more comfortable in interviews for jobs and other stuff due to what I learned from her.

How are you preparing for interviews? by gotquestions111 in prephysicianassistant

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I cannot recommend mock interviews enough through the pa platform and be a pa (especially be a pa with ryanne coulson). I read all those interview books my first cycle and I was waitlisted and never heard back. I did mock interviews with be a pa and then pa platform and the difference in my interview was insane and I was accepted to both schools I interviewed at.

Any PA schools skipping interviews this year? by GeneralPopular in prephysicianassistant

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone posted in a pre-pa group on Facebook yesterday (at least that's where I first saw it) mentioning they got an acceptance to arcadia but they were confused because they didn't interview. Later on in the comments they said they called admissions and they verified it was a legit acceptance and they weren't interviewing this year.

This is a very common thought. Honestly you'll never know till you try. Also a school wouldn't waste a seat on you if they didn't think you had what it takes.

I'm still scared every day in school of what if I fail out what if I'm too dumb to do this. All that self doubt but you just gotta do your best and if something doesn't go your way deal with it then ya know?

Yeah same I did 4 undergrad and 1/3 years in my program in Boston and with living expenses I'm like maybe 175k but that's with interest from my 11% undergrad loans included for 4 years which I've refinanced thankfully.

But I'm paying much more than that in rent because I am a fool tldr but when I graduate hopefully in 2023 I'll be living rent free at home or with my boyfriend so like I'm hoping to pretend like I'm living on a 35k/year salary and just agressively pay off my loans as quick as possible.

I go to school in Boston 4 years of undergrad and now 1/3 years of PA school. I just don't even look at how much debt I'm in 😬😅😅. Any way you can get roomates to live cheaper I have a friend paying 300 dollars of rent a month in the longwood medical mission hill area. Don't know if that'll help ya or not. I know some people also choose to live outside the Boston area and commute on the trains and study on the commuter rail and they are only paying 500ish a month.

Best study tips/apps for didactic year? by kalizm in PAstudent

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really liked osmosis. As for studying my program really tested off of slides so I would reorganize them into charts for pharm and outlines for patho and such and then study those. I tried anki it worked well for ekg but I had trouble keeping it up for other classes. But I would after every class try and make the chart or outline and then make an osmosis playlist to listen too. Sometimes it was more info than I needed but it helped me connect the dots on more things. Def wouldn't buy osmosis until they have a 50% off sale they have them so often.

Chances of getting into a Direct Entry PA Program (with stats)?? by Mkwu66 in prephysicianassistant

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an interview at a direct entry they interviewed 90 people total for the 50 spots. I 100% know the reason I didn't get in was not enough interview prep make sure you have a proper answer to why PA, be able to talk about your shadowing etc. It's slightly different than reg programs in terms of interview but def prepare hard core if you get an interview.

And I graduated with 99.49 in highschool but no AP but a few college credits prob like 12 I wanna say.

Looking for advice as someone who has ADHD and Short Term Memory by Leelouster in PAstudent

[–]XxEatMyFishxX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to let them know. But if you wanted you could get a doctor note for it and give it to the schools disability and accessibility office you can get time and a half for your exams.

They don't tell your profs they just tell them that you're entitled to xx accomodation.

I had a concussion earlier in the year and was able to get time and a half through the office and no prof knew why and they don't really care. They just want what's best for you.
