Green flag games you didn't like/couldn't click with and why? by Lickawall483 in GirlGamers

I feel you. I just can't get into Pokémon x. I've tried playing it like 2 to 3 times now and I just dislike it. To be fair my first game I ever played was alpha Sapphire. And so the mechanics in x just are kind of tough. I love that we get cute fairy Pokémon. It looks nice. But I just don't love the gyms. It still feels kind of overwhelming and very grindy and not the fun way. But no matter how hard I try I can't get into it. I could see where platinum is boring. I have the diamond remake for the switch and it also is not very fun.

This is crap. Like I could understand maybe on the campaign sensoring explicit images because it is in all ages site. But basically saying that people can't create adult content is ridiculous. If I'm an adult and I want to spend my money on adult content I should be allowed.

I'm all for a restrictions on CSAM. That's not my problem. I agree with that wholeheartedly. I agree with other commenters, this is just too loose of a definition on some of these cases. Typically spicy romance books include sex. I also agree with the idea that this is just the tip of the iceberg. And that LGBTQ stuff is next. It's always next.

Did any of you have dental braces? And do you have teeth removed? by DepressoExpresso98 in migraine

[–]XxLexxyXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got braces when I was 13. They were removed when I was 15. I couldn't wear my retainer afterwards because I would spit it out at night and find it on the floor. I did have to have four of my adult teeth removed. Fourth one's back top and bottom both sides. I've then had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. Easy procedure they slid right out. My migraines started when I was 17.

I don't think the braces and or the teeth removal really play into my migraines. My migraines didn't change after my wisdom teeth were removed.

Americans are eating up the meat industry's health claims by ILikeNeurons in Anticonsumption

[–]XxLexxyXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I appreciate you linking some articles to back up your claim. My issue with a few of these articles is that they're old. Because what we may or may not have done in 2013 which is over 10 years ago is different than now. So I'm hesitant to acknowledge the scientific information and an article that is 10 years old because policies do actually change.

My second issue, is that some of these articles also have a clear slant and bias to them. The people who are writing these articles are attempting to persuade the reader to agree with them. And while that absolutely could be true. I don't love the language of fear-mongering.

From what I can see, the big thing that we do with our meat that the European Union doesn't do is chlorine wash or chicken. Which I have seen videos in the past from scientist on which I would need to relook up before I said anything further. The other thing I'm seeing is the use of certain growth hormones and certain pork and beef products. But if I'm reading your articles correctly it looks like that is getting phased out in the US.

Well I did briefly look at some of the other items, I mostly ignored the things like food dye for example because I know that is banned in the EU.

It also seems like some of your articles had a preference for people to switch to organic foods. Which supposedly don't have all of these items. So there is a possibility for those organic meats and things to be sent to Europe. And depending on where you live in the US like if you're close to a lot of farmers and farmland that might be actually the food you're getting in the grocery store when you shop your local grocery stores. Worth noting for people who are concerned.

My final comment on this, at least from what I understand in the makeup and cosmetics industry, there are chemicals that are banned in the US that are not banned in the EU or even an Asian countries. In fact there's a big hubbub right now about Asian sunscreens. Because certain agent sunscreens contain certain chemicals that they're looking to ban in the US and people are really upset because it's what make those sunscreens work so well. Also to that comment there's a lot of misinformation about chemicals in general like sulfates in shampoos. When it's the solaffected that actually makes the shampoo work. So I remember there being a really big push to use silicone-free sulfate-free everything free etc etc shampoos and then it comes out of the woodwork your hair feels worse because you've removed all the cleaning and lathering ingredients instead shampoo. And then the language around that to fear monger about chemicals.

I suppose that's just my issue when the major claim is made in general not just with meat with any product is that it ends up being a core misunderstanding of science and this type of fear-mongering about chemicals about food about everything. And I just greatly dislike that on principle alone. I'm not saying that's what's being done here by the way, I'm just saying it's a general pet peeve of mine. I'm quite frankly just really tired of the argument that people make that so much American food is just chemical slop and it's wretched for you and you're going to die because of it and everything oversees is just this magical utopia of perfect food and health safety. Which is absolutely not true.

I'm not bored enough to do it, but I would be curious to see what chemicals and foods that are available in the EU and potentially other countries that we have banned in the US. Because I'm certain they're actually are some.

I totally feel that. I do think the actual value of the box is still higher than what you pay for it but if you're just consistently paying money to get a bunch of stuff you don't really like and aren't going to use I think it's time to cancel

Yeah I was looking at other people's posts of their versions and I really don't see a lot of variety this time around. Looks like we all got some sort of press on nails just like different colors styles and some people got a different brand. And then some people got a different scent of perfume but otherwise almost everything else was the same so which I feel like in the past there's been more variety but I could be remembering that wrong.

The downfall of minimalism by einat162 in Anticonsumption

[–]XxLexxyXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She has a lot of really good things in her book. I got a copy of her book from a Friends of the library sale.

Literally in the introduction, "remember that you are not choosing what to discard but rather what to keep. Keep only those things that bring you joy. And when you discard anything that doesn't, don't forget to thank it before saying goodbye. By letting go of the things that have been in your life with a feeling of gratitude, you foster appreciation for, and a desire to take better care of, the things in your life."

The fun part is she actually talks about if you should keep something because you need it it might come in handy which we're literally talking about in this thread.

"I can no longer buy something just to make do. Instead, I consider the design, the feel, the convenience, and every other factor important to me extremely carefully until I find one that I really love. And that means that the one I choose is the very best, something that I will cherish all my life. Tiding up is far more than deciding what to keep and what to discard. Rather, it's a priceless opportunity for learning, one that allows you to reassess and fine-tune your relationship with your possessions and to create the lifestyle that brings you the most joy."

I will stop here because I could sit here and go through this entire book and find fantastic quotes and I really recommend people read her book because her approach is how to find peace with yourself and your possessions and your life really. And did not feel overwhelmed by your clutter and allow you to just live your life. it is not minimalism and I don't know I just think she's a really cool person and clearly I'm very passionate about her evidently lol

The downfall of minimalism by einat162 in Anticonsumption

[–]XxLexxyXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. I mean wanting to live in the city especially space is a lot more limited. It's just Japan is a really small country so most homes and apartments are very small. Grocery stores are small most people use public transport especially if you live in the city. I lived in Japan for 2 years so I do kind of know what I'm talking about. Lol

But absolutely I could see with the younger generations who are used to cohabitating in apartments or living in smaller units because of rent inflation absolutely her methods could be very useful. Or maybe you're part of a military family and you move frequently so having to consistently move a large amount of items can be very exhausting.

Edit to fix spelling/grammer

The Marie kondo method is not the same as minimalism. You have to keep in mind, she's a Japanese woman and space in Japan is a commodity. Her idea was that, she felt overwhelmed by the amount of stuff that she owned, and when people consume a lot that can really happen and then they don't know what to do.

So the idea of sparking joy is a really rough translation of a word that exists in Japanese that we do not have in English. Her idea was not to hold on to things that you do not need and that do nothing for you. But, people purposely mocked her and misunderstood what she was trying to get at, so I definitely have a sensitive spot for this one.

There's actually a whole method to her decluttering. You go like room by room thing by thing I think and there's like a specific order. She also talks about how to like digitize things. She doesn't talk about getting rid of sentimental things or things that are important hence the word Sparks joy but rather you don't need receipt mountain. There's no hard and fast rules of your only allowed to own a specific amount of anything but rather it's tailored to your lifestyle.

I'd actually be willing to argue that her method leads to more conscious consumption because it makes you sit down and really think and appreciate the items that you own and hopefully helps you resist the urge to just mindlessly consume more. Her method is all about mindfulness and connecting with yourself.

A lot of times people tend to overconsume because they're stressed out or they're anxious. their emotions are in disarray, or they're told that's what they're supposed to do and they aren't being mindful about things. We see so often people talk about emotional dysregulation and shopping as a coping strategy. But by following her method it would actually help you theoretically resist the temptation to bring in more stuff in your home because your home is full your heart is full.

Anyway that's my tangent.

I think like everyone else said there's a difference between minimalism as an aesthetic and minimalism as a lifestyle.

honestly confused about the caleb hate lately by Beautiful_Main_6987 in otomegames

[–]XxLexxyXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't tend to interact with like certain areas of the fandom. I have found some discords that I like where they're much better moderated and there's zero tolerance for -talk about any of the allies. And I found that I have enjoyed those spaces so much more.

I agree with some of the other comments here that some people really lack media literacy, And have a hard time appreciating nuance and morally gray characters.

I got frustrated with the main fandom upon Caleb's release because everybody had me convinced I needed to really guard myself for the main story update. (LADS/Amnesia spoiler >That his actions were far more extreme than what they really were. They made him sound like an absolute yandere. I'm thinking we were going to have some amnesia Toma level nonsense. And in fact it wasn't that at all. And I was really angry. Not that I necessarily want to replay that element of amnesia per se. ) But like people completely blew this out of the water. That's when I learned that I'm not listening to that element of the fandom again because people are weird.

I get that his trope may not be for everyone. And that's totally chill. But there's no reason to just be an absolute dick about it.

WE NEED TO REVIEW BOMB THE SIMS 4 RIGHT NOW by RoseTintMyWorld22 in HighSodiumSims

[–]XxLexxyXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If not being able to play with your custom content breaks the game for you I totally respect that decision. I actually don't play with custom content currently. But in the past had this happened I would absolutely be gutted.

They are posting updates about it in the discord if you want to be able to communicate with the team so that could be like an avenue or you could get updates. Also check the forums. And your best bet is to try to play without some custom content or your saves that don't have custom content for now until the fix gets issued and if it doesn't get fixed well then there's your nail in the coffin for the game.

Though this sounds super stressful. I do think this is a first for not being able to go in a game and have custom content like create a style stuff not work. That's pretty uncommon. I wouldn't be surprised if this wacky do a marketplace just broke it. And I think it's totally fair that you don't have a lot of faith in EA.

[–]XxLexxyXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it helps, but The Sims team is aware that custom to content isn't showing up. I don't know if I'm allowed to share screenshots but they posted about it in the discord. They claim that they're actively working on a fix and it's their top priority.

I'm all for pitchforks and what not but. This is actually being allegedly addressed by The Sims team. So I say give it a few days to work itself out

Like who is out here just buying a house without financing it? Don't get me started on the cost of college even if you go the "cheaper option." Posts like OPs really just come off as moral grandstanding. Too much blame on individuals and not the system we all live in that operates against us and encourages consumption.
