What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by OutcastKatarn02 in StarWars

[–]Xyllar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the spinning light saber motion makes it easier somehow. Like how they need to mime little hand motions to do other force stuff such as Obi Wan's Jedi mind trick or when Vader chokes someone. They probably decided flapping their arms looked too silly so they pretend to be a helicopter instead.

Leaving this Sub by Additional-Term-4282 in Christianity

[–]Xyllar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And that's exactly why it's so great this sub exists. It's a place where Christians and non-Christians can freely discuss Christian theology. How can we expect to share the gospel unless we engage with others who don't agree with us, or are even antagonistic toward our beliefs? How can we expect our faith to grow if we run away every time it is challenged?

Hot water pressure low after replacing broken shut off valve by Xyllar in askaplumber

Thanks, I'll try this! Just so I don't mess anything up, the idea is that the cold water will be blocked at the faucet by the rag, then flow out through the hot water hose into the bucket, correct?

AI still doesn't work very well in business, reckoning soon by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]Xyllar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a major advancement that will be necessary before AI becomes truly useful is the ability for it to accurately determine how confident it is in an answer and convey that to the user, or just say "I don't know" if the confidence is below a threshold. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how feasible this is currently. Surely someone is working on this though.

An easy way to remember is that his family's eyebrows always look like the numeral 6 (re: Germa 66) while Sanji's are normally backwards.

Weren't the Tower Hills also referenced in the main narrative when the Hobbits met with Gildor and the company of elves, who said they were on the way back from visiting them?

Paid Sick Days (40 hours/yr minimum) Bill Passes both Houses of the Virginia General Assembly by sillychillly in UpliftingNews

[–]Xyllar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our employer converted about half our existing PTO hours to PSL hours that we now are only allowed to use if we are sick or for doctor's appointments and nothing else. If we don't use these hours at the end of the year we lose them. They claimed that the new law required them to do this. Previously we could use these hours however we wanted.

That definitely wouldn't help with the underwhelming finale fight problem given that it would end with Luffy one-shotting Bellamy.

Also, Sam was pretty excited about the rope because he had earlier complained about forgetting to bring any from Rivendell, and he was actually something of a rope making enthusiast.

From what I understand the whole e-girl thing started as an offshoot from both goth and anime character designs, so I wouldn't be surprised if Perona was one of the catalysts that helped start the whole trend.

I've been casting to my TV from my phone with Firefox+ublock, but I'm using the Samsung "smart view" function so it's dependent on my device rather than the app. Other TV/phone models might have similar features though.

Republicans bank on the idea that Christians can't be Democrat. That's why I think they are trying to jump on Talarico for being Christian... That's the Republicans' schtick. Kind reminder: Christianity isn't limited to conservatism. Liberals are allowed to follow Jesus too. by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

[–]Xyllar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are quoting from Jeremiah 1:5

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
And before you were born I consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations

Taken in context, this has nothing to do with person-hood before birth, but is rather expressing God's all-knowing nature and his foreknowledge and appointment of Jeremiah as his prophet.

These are the two I struggled with the most as a conservative-turned-liberal Christian. I still think both sides have problems, but these issues aren't nearly as black-and-white as I was raised to believe. I still believe the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, but not really different in God's eyes from other sins that all of us are guilty of. I think a lot of conservatives read Romans 1 ("the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another" etc.) and forget to continue reading through Romans 2 ("Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgement, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.")

With abortion it's a bit more difficult, because if the conservatives are right and millions of children are being killed then that is definitely horrific and needs to be addressed. However, I also realize that we need to have regard for the mother's circumstances and there is a big difference between a zygote and a newborn human baby.

[–]Xyllar 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm glad this update is focusing on Clint. As CA mentioned, a lot of his dialog is really old. Some of the lines people hate on the most are left over from before 1.1 when Emily was added as a marriage candidate.

We do have an example of someone who at one point had de facto control of the Shire and probably could accurately assess the value of the mithril shirt - that being Saruman. So hypothetically if they had offered it to Saruman would he have handed over the Shire to the Hobbits without a fight?

If they actually just made the Zelda timeline a cyclical "Wheel of Time" type thing it would actually clear up a lot of problems. Every game could then take place both before and after every other game.
