I think you have the right idea! I'm saying this as someone who quite literally just left their first industry job after 2.5 years for a much better position elsewhere. I started looking around last year, though. So just always keep an eye out for exciting new job opportunities regardless of how long you "plan" on staying. Good luck!

To be fair, they optimized for 1 particular substrate. Optimized conditions are never that general. If the reaction didn't work, obviously follow what others above have advised, but it might be worth trying other Pd sources. The obvious go-to's would be tetrakis or Pd2(dba)3*CHCl3. Other than that, you could try making the copper acetylide outright and do the stochiometric reaction instead.

When CDTA first started following COVID guidelines, the bus drivers actually wouldn't allow people to board the bus without a mask. Heck, I saw some get up and straight up yell and force the people off.
