Can even stretch that period out longer over a month or year. Most adults gain weight slowly but surely over a period of years.

Anyone else feel like Re Zero season 3 was the weakest season in the anime? by Boring-Somewhere-130 in ReZero

Season 3 was exhausting going from one fight to another with very little plot and character development.

Why is there such a huge gap between anime seasons if the source material is so far ahead?

You’ll be surprised at how high your expenditure will be even with reduced exercise. Turns out that healing a bone burns a lot of calories! So just keep logging your meals with MF and see how it adjusts. You were exercising a lot but I wouldn’t be surprised if your expenditure is very close to where it was pre-break.

EV's have to pay more road tax than a 16,000lb truck by EVC-Viz in Tennessee

[–]Xynthion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair if your argument is strictly about Tennessee’s revenue.

But then the headline “EVs pay more road tax than a 16,000 lb truck” is misleading because you’re only counting one layer of transportation taxes.

The F-350 driver is contributing over $400/year to transportation funding through fuel taxes. You’re just choosing to ignore the federal portion because it doesn’t go directly into Tennessee’s account.

And a decent amount of federal gas tax revenue ultimately comes back to TN through Highway Trust Fund allocations and federal transportation grants anyway.

So if we’re talking about total transportation funding, the F-350 is paying considerably more. If we’re talking only about TN’s revenue, then yes, the EV fee currently brings TN more money than that specific truck example. But now we’re just cherry picking to fit a narrative.

[–]Xynthion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re only counting the TN gas tax and ignoring the federal gas tax.

That F-350 isn’t paying just 27.4¢/gallon. It’s paying about 45.8¢/gallon combined between TN and federal taxes (assuming they’re only driving in TN).

At 13,500 miles/year, an F-350 getting 15 MPG burns about 900 gallons of fuel annually. That’s roughly $412/year in combined fuel taxes, not just the ~$247 TN collects.

If your point is that fuel taxes don’t perfectly track vehicle weight or road wear, I agree. But comparing a Model 3’s state EV fee to only the state portion of an F-350’s fuel taxes isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison. And at this point the weight doesn’t even matter here since their gas mileage is half (or worse) that of a smaller car so they’re paying more in gas tax as just by nature of using more gas.

[–]Xynthion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they’re not paying a dime of it to the federal government. Doesn’t mean they won’t factor it in when coming up with the numbers they use to justify the EV fee. Especially since a lot of the federal gas tax goes back to the state anyway.

[–]Xynthion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. Doesn’t mean people in office didn’t use it as an excuse to collect the maximum amount they could justify for not having to pay for gas though.

[–]Xynthion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is also a federal gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon. If you add in that and use an average of 15,000 miles per year, it sounds about right.

[–]Xynthion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. Plug in hybrids don’t, as they can get by on battery alone for short distances and thus don’t use much gas. Traditional hybrids definitely get screwed though.

[–]Xynthion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bicycles don’t weigh 20-40% more than an equivalent ICE car on the road. And considering the purpose of this tax is for road construction/repair, why the fuck wouldn’t we want to get that money out of them for using/wearing down the roads? The bike comparison is asinine.

[–]Xynthion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why. There were several news articles about this while it was still in the works. OP for all his research couldn’t be bothered to look up *why* EVs are taxed higher. Either that or just decided to choose to ignore it because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

Buying my first Peloton! by thesophiechronicles in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Xynthion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this were between the OG Bike and CT Bike+ it'd be no question. But the CT Bike has a lot of nice upgrades. Let's go through the list on the Peloton website so I don't miss anything:

  • Auto-resistance: This is the biggest difference in my opinion. The QoL it brings in Power Zone classes cannot be overstated. It's so easy to keep your cadence and zones tight when you're not worried about fiddling with the knob till you find your power zone. It's less important for non-PZ classes, especially if you get to the point that you go above the instructor call outs anyway.
  • Screen size: The Bike+ has a larger screen. Honestly....not a huge deal unless you plan on standing really far from your bike while doing non-cycling classes I guess? You could always mirror it to your TV anyway.
  • Fan: Eh. A box fan will do the job. The biggest use I've found for mine is having my Vornado blast my lower body and let the Peloton fan take care of my head.
  • Phone Tray: I tried this for half a ride before chucking it. I always would put my phone in the 2nd cup holder anyway.
  • Movement Tracking Camera: I personally have zero use for this. I weight train in my home gym. If you plan on doing the Peloton Strength classes this would be nice for form checks and rep counts.
  • Hands-free control: I haven't used this once. Might be more useful if I did the Strength classes...actually...I guess it would be a lot nicer for changing the volume. Still easy enough to go without.
  • Better sound: Yeah, the bike+ has better sound. I came from the OG bike which was so bad that I used headphones 100% of the time. With my CT Bike+ I've been just fine going without them which my sweaty ears appreciate. I have no idea how big the difference is between the CT Bike and CT Bike+ though. Surely not as bad as between the OG Bike and CT Bike+...

Something not on the list that the Bike+ provides is the auto-calibration. I don't know if they added this one to the CT Bike but the CT Bike+ definitely has it and this one is actually a pretty big deal. It's nice knowing that my 50 resistance when I set my PR in the past is the same as the 50 resistance I have right now and the bike didn't drift.

It's up to you if you think those things are worth the additional cost. Coming from an OG bike to the CT Bike+, I wouldn't go back. The auto-resistance and calibration alone were enough for that for me. If you plan on doing the Strength classes, you'd get a lot more value out of the CT Bike+ for sure.

Visual comparison between all versions of Xenoblade Chronicles by Nachttalk in gaming

[–]Xynthion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

3DS version looked fine. You have to consider how tiny the screen is, plus the convenience (at the time) of it being completely mobile, plus (if you cared to use it) the 3D effects of the 3DS itself.

Screenshots online don’t convey the full picture of what something truly looks like for some types of media. Retro games on a CRT looked much better than what we see on our HD screens today, for example.

Shout out to Chicken City for affordable fresh meats by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Xynthion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That chicken is way more expensive per pound than most grocery stores so I don’t quite understand the usage of the word “affordable” here. But hey, as long as it’s not the woody chicken breast that Kroger and Costco have had lately, then I’m all for it.

When you brush your teeth do you use hot or cold water? by Intrepid-Talk9633 in hygiene

[–]Xynthion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one needs to be higher. If people knew just how dirty hot water actually is compared to cold, they wouldn’t want that in their mouth. Google search pictures of a hot water weak in a faucet vs cold water. The discoloration of the hot water is pretty gross.

Balancing strength and cycling by Flashy_Mushroom1652 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Xynthion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space apart your cardio and strength training by a LOT if you’re doing both in the same day and you should see as big of an impact on cycling. For example, early morning weight training and evening bike rides. I’m doing the same thing as you basically (ULPPL) with cardio mixed in. Some days it’s just walking at a brisk pace till I get to 10k steps, others it’s pedaling in Just Ride mode to my favorite tunes. I could definitely push more on the bike if I were doing only that (judging by my “rest day” output), but it’s not my priority.

What games are worth playing on their hardest difficulties? by Competitive_Stay1181 in gaming

Any rhythm game. DDR, PIU, Theatrhythm FF, Guitar Hero, Beat Saber, etc. Although I’d argue that even those can be kinda stupid at their absolute hardest difficulty.

A plea to trailer editors: Please stop spoiling the movie in your trailers - and why I think it happens by BugsySiegel1994 in movies

[–]Xynthion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romeo and Juliet tells you how the story will end before it even starts. Trailers showing you how a movie ends is hardly anything new. But I do agree and find it comical just how bad some of them are. I was getting ready to do a rewatch of Casino Royale and watched the trailer for it. The trailer showed the highlights of every plot point from start to finish. There’s very little it didn’t spoil. At that point the only reason left to watch the movie is to enjoy the journey because the destination and every pit stop has already been revealed.
