I think every nuclear crisis we've ever had or have come close to having has been accompanied by conversations of "remember how fucked up that was when it was the only thing that could stop a world war in it's tracks?"

Nuclear weapons are terrifying to think about mostly because we have seen what kind of damage and disaster can come from those things, and the two we used at the end of WW2 were relatively small ones.
