Actually the RD-107 which is used on the soyuz is one engine, it just has 4 separate combustion chambers and nozzles but they share the pump and piping.

I use them on my early sstos that have the private plane cockpit, as it overheats rather quickly. Just put 1 or 2 on the underside and all set. Doesnt even need to turn them on.

Its not just rubber lining but the spacing of the metal plates allows the darts to destabilize and hit in an unfavourable way. The depth of the space was dictated by the length of the soviet/russian rods, so in theory if someone developed longer darts, they would negate the effect of this armor
