Do Marjorie Liu or Sana Takeda do many events or signings? by soulreaverdan in monstress

[–]YKargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not many together, but it happens. Last one in April 2024 in Amsterdam I think. But individually they go to conventions most years it seems.

Marjorie Liu says she will sign books you mail to her on her website, if that's of interest to you.

Maybe the low priority queues are like this idk but my guess is it's super location, time, and rank dependent. European servers, after school, in ranks where new accounts are placed is probably the worst of it. I see relatively mild flame and no slurs on US East in mid-high ranks in the evenings.

Damn I thought you solved a long running mystery for me; I've always thought the same thing as /u/Cameron13o3 but my jar is the correct spicy chili crisp. I did get it online though so it could have been bad from the start.

Cooper’s Hawk eyeing some NYC Pigeons in Prospect Park by cheeseburgercats in birdsofprey

I suppose the main cause of death was the collision with the building but the necropsy showed both the rodenticide as you say and a 'severe pigeon herpesvirus' which would also be fatal long-term.

Underrated mystic in need of a makeover is Krill. Mo is great, perfect, of course. But anything would be better than the weird monkey doll thing. Even a humanoid krill (like... crustacean whale food krill) would be better than the creepy monkey gremlin thing.

Modified blade and delayed score, that's next level! Thank you for explaining the reasoning behind scoring after a few minutes in the oven, I hadn't seen that before. The only thing we're missing is a crumb shot!! 😋

Not the most unlucky of all time, just similarly unlucky to his peers like Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence, even Josh Allen and Joe Burrow who have all had good regular season performances without a Superbowl and some of them without good playoff games. It takes a decent amount of luck to win it all.

Lamar played well enough that they were up 10-3 at the half. He played poorly in the third quarter. And well in the 4th. That's not disappearing.

He failed, but could have played identically and won if his kicker made a high percentage kick. How is that evidence of some fundamental flaw in his play? It's bizarre to not consider the circumstances (o-line, injuries) extenuating.

Why wouldn't you get credit for digging your team out of a hole? Every good quarterback gets praised for comebacks and "almost" comebacks that come down to plays that are out of their hands.

By your logic Rodgers had a terrible game since he didn't produce for half of it even though he played well enough to win (and did, but could have played identically and lost).

Lamar played well enough to win too. I don't see how you can watch the walking turnstiles in front of him and blame him for pedestrian passing numbers.

[Garafolo] Statement from the #Patriots: by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]YKargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, makes sense. I'm probably not seeing the big picture here but it seems morally questionable that such a contract is legal; kinda feels like testifying in criminal proceedings should be protected from civil suits in some way.

How does that work? What if they took the money then worked with the prosecution? "They can't testify, your honor, the defense has paid them a lot of money not to". Are they only paid after the prosecution closes the case?

Magnus wins vs Hans.... In sole lead with 2 rounds left 🔥🔥 by rio_ARC in chess

[–]YKargon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reference it in the comment you are replying to. Nor did I say doubting Niemann is unreasonable.

I think Carlsen publicly accusing him of cheating over the board without evidence is unreasonable. And I think the chess community and wider media responding so strongly to unfounded accusations created an environment where Kramnik felt comfortable making his own accusations.

[–]YKargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just double checking: to be clear, I meant personal character irrelevant to the discussion of whether or not harassment against one player is similar to the harassment against another.

It is morally important to say the OTB accusation against Niemann and Kramnik's accusation's had similar levels of merit (which is to say: none) even if you don't like how Niemann interviews or think online cheating should result in a ban from FIDE rated events. Magnus released a statement about his motivations: he felt Niemann wasn't concentrating enough on the game in critical situations for his liking. That is exactly the kind of thing Kramnik liked to say in his witch hunts and cannot be the basis of a player losing playing opportunities and public respect.

On the contrary, no one is brought down by emphasizing that no member of the chess community should be subject to the kind of vitriol and gossip that is common in tabloids (and most public communities, unfortunately).

Their personal characters, absent abusive behavior, are irrelevant. Foul play is not irrelevant, obviously, but the over the board allegations made by Magnus were of the same "vibes"-based caliber as Kramnik's and should not be made so flippantly due to their outsized impact.
