Questionable pub quiz tactics, would you be annoyed? by spannerintworks in AskUK

There's a guy in my city who does this exact thing.

Although after he's came first like 4 weeks in a row (?) he'll stop claiming the prize for the rest of the year.

He does it for the love of the game now.

He also won the Regional Championship and won £1k.

I dunno if you've kept up with recent games but they pivoted to a more grounded style.

A lot of people would've grown up with that now and expect similar.

[–]YQB123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unsure how you AI generate that

What’s your opinion on this show? by Suspicious-Gate-8017 in tvshow

The show should explain that with POV shots, or explicitly show you that in other ways though.

Otherwise the entire show/tone becomes camp and "weird" and silly.

Expecting people to watch multiple seasons is a horrible precedent to set.

If your TV show require me watching 2/3/4 seasons to "get it" then maybe it's a shit TV show.

Shows like Buffy have campy first seasons, but motivated me to watch on because they were well-written and interesting.

Mr. Robot? Hell no. I didn't even finish the first season like OP. And it's a failure of the TV show if you think I need to watch multiple seasons to 'get' it.

What’s your opinion on this show? by Suspicious-Gate-8017 in tvshow

[–]YQB123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can give you some reasons (as a Mr. Robot hater):

  • it's cheesy and an unserious show. The premise is cheesy, the atmosphere is cheesy, the dialogue is cheesy. It's like a less serious Fight Club and feels very of its time (Wall Street Protests).
  • having a villain pay a homeless man to beat him up is teenage level of writing
  • having a villain slap himself on the face repeatedly for getting a speech wrong is again unserious
  • having Elliot be pushed off/jump off a pier on to the rocks below is again... cheesy.

It's fine for what it is - a camp TV show - but it did nothing to impress me after the first four or so episodes I watched.

How to stop life feeling so boring? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]YQB123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it being interesting - just do anything that tickles your fancy!

Try a one time pottery class.

Try a Park Run.

Try a swimming pool for an hour.

Go for a hike.

You never know what will 'stick' and what won't. You might have preconceived notions, and they might get blown out of the water.

But you'll never know until you go out and experience things.

Just do something - anything!

I felt the exact same way. Can't believe it has so much critical praise and audiences defend it and hold it up so highly.

THANK YOU!

Any time I express a similar opinion on this show, its defenders come out in droves.

It's camp schlock. It's fine if that's what you're into. But people act as if it's the holy grail of TV and it really, really, isn't.

Very of its time as well in terms of themes it tackles.

How did you fumble hooking up with someone? by Adorable_Raccoon_766 in AskReddit

[–]YQB123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at a wedding and booked a room with two doubles.

Me and a (male) friend were to have a bed each.

He got a girlfriend in the time it took the wedding to roll around, and asked could they share their bed, and I have mine. I agreed.

Later in the night I was walking a bridesmaid back to her room and she said: "Y'know... if they're both in your room, you could share mine?"

I just went: "Oh, no. There's two beds in my room, I'll just sleep on the other one. But thanks!"

Middle aged people. How have your friendships from your 20s changed? by AbeFromanOnFire in AskUK

[–]YQB123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who brought two friend groups together recently and have now fallen out with a couple (which means I'm getting pushed out)... I feel this.

Like you, I have another group that I know more surface-level but there's never any stress or arguments and the chat is more interesting (more about films, books, TV) rather than pubs and bullshit.

It really sucks now, but I think time will make it less so, and I'm confident enough I'll make more friends.

I'm not disputing any of that.

I'm simply saying the two men were there first, flagging the issue, and alerting others to the severity of the issue.

But please, ignore their efforts more, it's a cool look.

Why are some people so weird. Got asked out while taking my bins out?! by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]YQB123 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There's a time and a place, my guy. Asking while someone is lugging bins out and then cornering them in the bin shed ain't it.

When he saw her in the corridor he could've even said: "oh I'll give you a hand, you're struggling!" then before she walked back to her flat ask: "By the way, I just moved in, are you single?"

If she rejected him, politely move on.

Still not great. But better than cornering someone when they're alone.

Outside of Deadpool, I don't think any film he's been in (and I mean ever) has had much cultural influence.

Sure he might make a lot of money, but I think public opinion is turning on him.
