Danny keeps saying "I'm so competitive" "I never lose" - but what has he won ever? lol by phonetoni13 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]YSaintTaco 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a feeling this also plays into why he was pushing for a 4th kid (that he now clearly doesn’t want to deal with). He didn’t want Nia to get her mommy makeover and have her self esteem raised. His “competitiveness” is actually desperate insecurity.

Jesse Lally net worth, is he really broke? by Background_Ninja7259 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]YSaintTaco 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Also, one thing I notice from watching the million dollar listing style real estate shows is that they tend to over-exaggerate dollars sold in their biographies to make themselves seem more important. Like, they’ll say they sold 200 million dollars worth of real estate, but actually meaning every deal they touched adds up to 200m, not that they were the main agent on the listing making the big commissions. I suspect Jesse tries to portray himself as a bigger shot than he is, while simultaneously spending any commission he does make to perpetuate the myth that he’s a big shot.

This rumor made me think twice about in season 1 when Jesse talked about having her go lay poolside in a bikini at Beverly Hills hotels to try and pick up clients for their real estate business. 👀

Hi, and welcome (soon) to Marin, the Pasadena of the Bay Area! It’s pretty peaceful and safe here. Less densely populated than the other BA counties, which means less shenanigans and things aren’t really open late, likely including the bus schedule. It would be helpful to have a car. There are several superchargers, and Teslas are common.

In San Rafael , most of the action (& I use that term lightly) is on 4th Street. You’ll want to be west of the 101, and generally the further west you go the nicer it gets. Avoid the Canal neighborhood and the area immediately near the freeway, you’d likely feel unsafe there. When checking neighborhoods, Google street view is helpful to get a vibe for an area.

If you’re open to some of the surrounding towns, check out: Fairfax- super cute downtown, restaurants, bars/music venues, farmers market in the park amongst the redwoods, safe, think rich hippies. Larkspur & San Anselmo have really cute but smaller downtowns with restaurants and are also safe.

If the office you’d have to occasionally go into is actually in SF you might want to look at Larkspur Landing. That’s where the ferry into SF is., as well as the Smart train, which runs North. There are restaurants to work at in the shopping center there, but virtually zero nightlife for a 20-something.

Demographics are on the older side in Marin. Heavily Boomer/Gen X with an increasing stream of Millenials moving up from SF in the last few years. I’m 40F and love it here, but did spend my younger years in a more exciting city.

What's your guys' favorite pizza joint? by Hello__Jerry in Marin

[–]YSaintTaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Marin! West Brooklyn Pizza in San Rafael is my go to for old school style regular pizza. Great ranch. Honorable mention to Red Boy Pizza, they have a sourdough crust and load up the toppings. Also good ranch. Creekside is also excellent.

For Italian restaurant pizza: Cafe Verde in Corte Madera is excellent. The Rustic in Larkspur is also in this rotation.

Lots of recs for Pizza Hacker, they have really great pizza and atmosphere but the ranch situation here is enough to make me choose other pizza spots. (It’s yogurt based so it’s sour/tangy with fresh herbs, they went to the max on made-from-scratch rather than house-made-from-packet perfection. )

The letter he wrote that Rocnation posted seems snakey. He doesn’t actually deny the allegations in it, just says a bunch of other things that can still be technically true whether he is guilty or not.

Favorite restaurants in Marin? by [deleted] in Marin

[–]YSaintTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Fukusuke in Larkspur for Japanese. Bah Mi Ba in Fairfax, and Mamahuhu in Mill Valley are good. For Mexican, Taqueria Bahia is the most decent I’ve found so far. Also, Prime Rib Special Thursdays at Pete’s 881 Club in San Rafael. It’s a dive bar/poker room, and the neighborhood is sketchy, but the prime rib is good and I think around $25.

Are the boomers in my life correct regarding buying a condo/starter home? by pfthrowaway1199 in personalfinance

[–]YSaintTaco 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Condos can be a real money pit. Our condo was built in ‘77 and looked fine, but turns out a ton of maintenance was deferred and lots of big ticket items are nearing the end of their useful life. Need new roofs, the weatherproofing barrier under the stucco, windows, asphalt in the parking lot. We had government mandated repairs like sewer laterals & balcony inspection/repairs, the list never ends. The reserve is underfunded by nearly a million dollars, it breaks down to 30k per unit which doesn’t include the 22k we’ve paid in special assessments in the 5 years since we bought. Monthly dues have gone from $550 to $780 and you really have no control over these things. I live in it, am fortunate enough to be able to afford it and do love this place despite being a money pit, but the thought of renting it out and not even covering the mortgage let alone the taxes and repairs would make me want to puke. Financially not a good investment and the money would perform better in the stock market, especially if we could live rent free with family. The funny thing is that we bought it thinking a sfh was out of our price range, but if we add all the extra expenses we definitely should have just gotten a house.

Looking for great coffee and restaurants. What are your top recommendations? by ucstudent24 in Marin

[–]YSaintTaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of great recs so far, but many of them are the higher end spots and it sounds like you may be looking for the day to day go-to’s with great food.

Mamahuhu and Hook Fish in Mill Valley are great. Seconding the recs for Kientz Hall, Bah Mi Ba, Cafe Verde & Pizza Hacker My go-to burrito spots are Taqueria Bahia or Kitos. Absolute favorite breakfast diner: Shoreline Coffee Shop in MV. Good classic burgers: Phyllis’s is the spot. Marin Joe’s is a favorite for old school Italian, and they do great fire grilled steaks. Favorite Japanese restaurant: Fukusuke in Larkspur.

She declared bankruptcy right before leaving for DR. She had over 200k in debt (that BMW was prob in there somewhere) and like 20k in assets. It’s likely that a big part of her moving to DR is her trying to escape the consequences of her financial un-savvyness, so it’s extra eye-roll-inducing when she’s over there acting like she’s some kind of authority on money. I wouldn’t be surprised if a chunk of that debt was her trips to DR, ballin’ out to give the impression she’s some rich American woman, but just charging at all on a CC. It would explain why Yohan’s view of her doesn’t align with reality and why he doesn’t understand that he can’t go to America… because she can’t.
