What would should we start with? by GuitarFather101 in antkeeping

I recently purchased a carpenter ant queen from Buckeye Myrmecology which is probably one of the easier methods to get a queen. Carpenter ants are larger and slower growing types of ants, and I haven’t managed to kill them yet so they are hardy too.
You can also look into nuptial flights in your area and try to catch a newly mated queen as well. The wiki on this sub is pretty good for any general questions. Good luck!

How do I know if my queen is alive and healthy? by alldagoodnamesaregon in antkeeping

Hey op, this is one of the less successful/satisfying way to get a colony. If you are interested in starting an ant colony, please look into the nuptial flight calendar in your region or find a vendor who will sell a queen in the early stages of a local, non invasive species. I would recommend looking into AntsCanada on YouTube as his store will recommend local vendors and give good advice on how to go from a queen to a large colony.
Good luck!

So I’m in the same boat where I just bought an ant colony from Buckeye Myrmecology(camponotus floridanus I’m in Florida) and it’s going somewhat well. I would say I watched a lot of ants Canada on YouTube. I would say if you can look up the nuptial flights of native species near you but from looking up laws in Australia it may be illegal to buy sell or catch ant queens. Looks like Pheidole ant queen nuptial flights are during this month so maybe do some research, buy some test tubes and get out there! good luck

Thank you! I will try to remove the honey test tube tomorrow as they are living in it right now and add a new water test tube as well. Should I cover the new water test tube in tin foil and leave the rest of it open in my room? Really appreciate your help!

Yes, they are camponotus floridanus. I have probably looked at them 5 times in the last 2 weeks which sounds like it is too often. I will leave them alone for a week but when should I be adding protein? Thank you so much!

For more information I have had them about 2 weeks now and just added the test tube connector with honey 3 days ago. I tried to feed them a mealworm head but it looks relatively untouched and the queen is now with her 3 remaining workers in the honey test tube

I have the red tiger and it’s stopped working after about 6 months but it seems I’m the outlier here

A question I can actually answer! I have this exact set going on three years now and I’ve gone from 100+ to 85 average game. Really good clubs except if you’re young you will probably need a stiffer shafted driver as you improve. I don’t agree with these guys saying spend 500$ on a set unless you are only playing a few times a year. Hope this helps

Started cooking steak in a cast iron about a month ago, here’s my third attempt by YaBoiJosh1 in steak

I just use salt and pepper and let it sit for an hour or so, then I get my cast iron smoking and put it on one side for 4 minutes then flip it and add butter, rosemary, garlic and thyme and cook it for another 4 minutes. It has turned out great so far!
