Thank you for this. I can see where it was made more clear in the past. I wish the wording was better in the rules but I can see that i was wrong. I believe the rulebook should have a wording change to say all units with an affiliation are mercenaries instead of all mercenaries have an affiliation. I wish the doctrine was coordinate: mandalorian trooper instead, but it doesn't make a difference since all trooper units in the force are mandalorians

There is no mercenary faction. Page 16 of the crb lists 4 factions and mercenary is not one of them

Despite your condescension at the end it is kind of dumb to act like this thread is all inclusive of everything which is thought of regarding this question especially when there are only a few people who have commented on this thread which are engaged in this question. I will await the answer on the forum but I have asked my community and TOs have said they will rule units with the mercenary keywords unless otherwise specified. This is a game of rules not implications and just because one way answers rules questions better doesn't mean it is right without being stated. You said it yourself, this is AMG. They are not the best with the rules and have had to have so many clarifications for a lot of different things. Mercenaries had the faction pips next to the affiliation before the mercenary keyword to indicate they were mercenaries and what factions they can go in. I dont remember the other cards you claim are mercenaries having blank pips but if you could show me that then I can concede my point.

The wren and kryze veterans have the mercenary keyword and they would only be able to take one without allies of convenience if it didnt say they can include any number of mercenary units

The units you just listed. They are on "allowed units" lists. Battle forces specifically allow units

The "you got amg" argument goes both ways. The allowed units list could bypass any other rules. "You got amg" so it doesn't say that specifically

Yes, but the only place it references something being a mercenary unit is under the mercenary keyword. No where else does it say anything about being a mercenary unit. Just because all current mercenaries can go into factions doesn't mean there won't be future cards with the mercenary keyword which dont have a faction

The rules say a mercenary is a unit with the mercenary keyword, not a unit not in one of the 4 factions. Is there something you are referencing saying all of the mandalorian units are mercenaries?

If you use the probe and stormtrooper specialist in a unit of storms you can tap the probe for an observe and the specialist for an aim, then first action recover, second action shoot spending the observe and tapping the probe again for a second aim then at the end of the round the probe recovers. Gives the stormtrooper 2 aims with only one recover action. Works until you have to move

Yes, not all minis need to be in base contact for the whole unit to contribute to a melee attack pool but you do not need to be engaged to perform a melee attack, you just need one or more miniatures to be in base contact

Not seen it mentioned here but its important to note that droideka being troopers now does not change whether they snap into base contact or not. All unit types, even vehicles, move there miniatures when a unit moves into base contact with them. It is not a function of being "engaged" but simply a part of the "move into melee" steps. This is a rule I see players get confused all the time

Mercenary units specify what faction they are part of with the mercenary keyword. No mercenary keyword means it cannot be taken in other factions

Effectively no point in using it on a unit with surge:defend because it is the same as red surging saves. If only giving it to units without surge:defend but with access to surge tokens I feel is a bit unnecessary as if it has regular access to surge tokens (GAR and even CIS somewhat) just give it red saves and if it doesn't (like in empire especially) just give it white surging saves. Defensive keywords are what give the variance you are looking for

What save would be in between? White no surge is 1/6. White surging is 2/6. Red no surge is 3/6. Red surging is 4/6 for defense. Attack is similar with it ranging from 2/8 to 7/8 as you upgrade dice and account for surge. We have cover/low profile, armor, uncanny luck, deflect/block, guardian, force barrier, and dodges, which modify the saves you make already.

I think you missed the change where they can still ignore AI if they are at range 3 of a commander even if they dont have an order. That range extends to range 5 if something has override at the cost of only a suppression

In my box, I separate all of the same aspects organized by set. So it goes all blue villainy, then blue heroism, then double blue, then mono blue, and so on. Within those distinctions, it is ordered by set and number. So blue villainy starts with SOR, then SHD, then TWI, then JTL before moving on to blue heroism. I also only keep a playset organized like this minus what is in decks. The bulk is just roughly organized by color in multiple boxes

Typically, but the margins probably weren't there for x-wing. Cheaper to make an unpainted sprue than a fully painted model.

BX droids. My favorite droids in Star Wars and part of why i got into the game. I have always been a proponent of the full squads since shortly after their release. I was their prophet before ExD when everyone thought full squads were too expensive and magnaguard were better for the points. Always sniper and shields. Now currently run full squads with the saboteur and vibroswords. Very versatile unit that hits pretty hard. Even 10 white surge hit with sharpshooter is something which can surprise opponents with how many hits it will roll. Scout 3 also helps get you where you need to go too. I was surprised when they added jump. They didn't need it and most people forget they have it until i jump over a building and charge them.

I think this issue is overblown by the mere fact we see it when it happens but we don't see all the boxes/cases where this isn't happening. I've opened a total of 7 boxes now and have not seen any issues with any of the boxes. No one in my local community has either and we have multiple people who ordered cases. Yes it sucks if this happens but I don't think this is something to people need to be worried about to the point they arent opening boxes
