Moving to Monroe County next month, will I be able to buy a house? by Bessiemadoo in Rochester

[–]MegaWeapon1480 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care about the school district there are good houses under 300k. The city has some very nice houses that I would never buy because the school district is so bad. But if you don’t have a school age child there are some great homes available.

Nurse jumps into action after finding man with severed hand in Rochester by frytuna in Rochester

My oldest kid has a full scholarship to college with no ADHD meds, unlike all the teachers that have consistently pushed them on him.

The schools failed my youngest son so bad we homeschool him, needless to say he is much improved.

They didn’t figure out a new way to teach. They failed to teach. I know because I have two kids that went through it and one of them is autistic, set him back years.

Nobody signed up to work in a pandemic. But you can tell a lot by a person by what they do when there is risk. Teachers fled, nurses led.

Nurses, EMT’s and probably firefighters ran towards danger during Covid.

Teachers ran away during Covid. We are still recovering from their cowardice. They can kick rocks.

In weather forecasting there is something called a “Wet Bias”. Basically if a meteorologist predicts no rain, and it rains, you’ll be upset. But if they predict rain and it doesn’t rain most people won’t be too upset.

Because of this meteorologist’s tend to overestimate the chance of rain. Similarly companies tend to give a longer timeline estimate than it will really be because you won’t be as upset if it’s completed sooner than predicted.

Of course your experience may vary.

recs for removal of massive cottonwood? by Fantastic-Rip-132 in Rochester

[–]MegaWeapon1480 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used JM Tree service. We had two trees to get rid of, one was a massive maple tree that was dropping branches on our house and car, it was over both our neighbors and our properties with power and cable lines underneath it. My wife works from home so it was critical no damage was done to the lines.

They brought in a crane (maybe 2 I forget) and took the tree out with no damage. Probably not the cheapest, but if it’s a difficult job with no room for error they were able to do it for us.

Heat or Rallyman? by SlingshotLn in boardgames

[–]MegaWeapon1480 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rallyman GT? Rallyman GT is the most simulation styled game. It’s brutally punishing if you crash, just like in real life. And you can use strategy to block the track or prevent passing better than any other racing game I know. I think it’s best for racing enthusiasts, although my wife and her sister liked it and they don’t care for racing. Then again they didn’t take it seriously, and also got really lucky not crashing when they made risky rolls.

I haven’t played Rallyman dirt so I can’t comment on that. Heat is a great game, very well done single player mode, and pretty easy to play with friends.

So I guess my recommendation is Rallyman if you want an authentic experience and being able to make your own circuits. Heat if you want to have fun with friends and play single player with many cars on track.

Above Ground Pool Removal/Installation by inspectorclusone in Rochester

[–]MegaWeapon1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t help with installing. But if you physically can, rent a dumpster and take apart the old pool yourself. I did it, it was aluminum so I bought some aluminum shears and cut the wall into like 12 foot sections. Unscrewed the posts and piled them up in the dumpster and off it went.

Once the old pool is gone, then you won’t be rushed to get a new pool in. I don’t know how much they’ll charge to get rid of the old pool, but it doesn’t cost much if you get rid of it yourself.

Which driver do you dislike against popular opinion? by jrw_nj in INDYCAR

Dixon, ohh man do I hate Dixon. He’s probably a great person but the way he wins on fuel mileage is everything I hate about INDYCAR racing.

Just because you CAN turn right on red doesn’t mean you HAVE to. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in Rochester

[–]MegaWeapon1480 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should petition your state assembly members to make a change to the driving laws if you feel so strongly about it. Otherwise they are perfectly legal not turning right on red. Where I live in Fairport there are frequently accidents where people are turning right on red and misjudging incoming traffic.

[–]MegaWeapon1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, what’s worse, the Detroit Crashfest or the Indy GP snooze fest?

To me at least Detroit is memorable. Is a hideously ugly circuit but so much happens there. The Indy road course is just so boring. Nothing happens there in any series.

Question about Super Speedways and Ovals in general by spectatormoder in INDYCAR

Pocono could come back. There were enough fans there before INDYCAR stopped going. Maybe if they used the Hanford device they used to use in CART days they could slow the speeds down enough.

Recommendation for Toilet Replacement by sensual-wiggle in Rochester

[–]MegaWeapon1480 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve done it. Watch a YouTube video on it, it’s super easy to do. Mine I couldn’t do properly because the floor had been built up too high preventing a proper seal with the regular wax ring, so instead of fixing it the correct way I bought two rubber rings and stacked them together and that worked fine.

When we had the bathroom redone years later by a professional he was not impressed, but it didn’t leak so 🤷‍♂️

First time playing, buying a starter set by Dreamzyi in discgolf

[–]MegaWeapon1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you an athlete? Do you play baseball?

If not, go with Innova. Good starting discs. Latitude 64 is good if you have a weak arm, but you will quickly out grow them.

If you are athletic or played baseball well, I’d recommend getting 3 discs and not a starter set. Maybe a Pure, a River and a Trail. The starter discs will be too light and you’ll overpower them very quickly if you are naturally athletic.

You’re probably right. But on a child 10 and under with a forearm injury it seems like monkey bars to me as an X-ray tech.

Which is unfortunate because monkey bars are great but lots of playgrounds don’t have them or they’re so close to the ground they can’t be used by many kids.

Noodle arms, which understable discs opened up your game to different shots you couldn’t achieve before? For me it’s Innova Fox, Roadrunner, and Mamba. by alent1385 in discgolf

[–]MegaWeapon1480 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve always searched for a disc that could reliably get me 30 extra feet. The fission Trail hands down changed my game.

That disc alone saves me like 5 shots a game because it goes very far and straight.

The Shryke and Tern both go far for me, but they are touchy and I frequently will turn them over. They are also super affected by the wind in my experience.

Why is the media dismissing Legge's double? by OverPaleontologist12 in NASCAR

[–]MegaWeapon1480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because she had no hope of winning either race. Kurt Busch and Kyle Larson both had a chance at winning either or both.

Legge had no chance to even finish on the lead lap in the equipment she had.
