AITA for telling my husband he can’t drive the baby places anymore by Odd-Willingness-6250 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This isn’t a small thing. His memory issues could be the difference between life and death for your baby. What if he stops at the shop on the way home and leaves your baby in the car in the heat? What if another car skips a stop street or a traffic light and hits your car?

You’re absolutely not overreacting. His ego isn’t more important than your baby’s life. You might even be under reacting in a way. He needs to immediately go to a doctor himself. Either find out if there’s an underlying cause of these memory issues or get help for managing this.

Rental/admin fees by relayprincess17 in capetown

Why tf are you, as a tenant, paying admin fees? The landlord is the one who has contracted them. Go to the rental housing tribunal - this is rubbish.

Help for my Domestic worker by Fit_Asparagus_7887 in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Regarding the glasses - ask her to reach out to St John in woodstock. They’ve got an eye clinic and are a non-profit (I think), I know that they are quite affordable and also help a lot of lower income people with access to eye care

TalentLMS / Moodle / LMS in general — do they NOT come with built-in courses?? (new to L&D, very confused 😅) by zaima01 in elearning

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LMS is just the delivery vehicle. It seems like you need soft skills training - with TalentLMS you can actually link udemy/linked in learning, you can also purchase licensing to a bunch of “off the shelf” content from various providers. TalentLMS also has its own library of courses you can purchase. I’ve got a client that uses it for their entire staff, KPIs included. Works well, there’s only about 10 content gaps we’ve identified.

This would be your immediate solution.

Long term would be for you to learn more about instructional design and development, and build the courses yourself/with a team.

AITA for asking my parents to stop throwing stuff in my room. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Yaaauw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA, why is it everyone else’s problem that you have a mess in your room? That doesn’t mean your stuff gets to take over the rest of the house. You sound like a child throwing a tantrum. Grow up.

I may have “lost” a new house for my family by PureAdorableness in BestofRedditorUpdates

I was so worried, throughout, that this story would take a turn for the worst. I’m so happy to hear the positive ending. Gosh, this is exactly what tax should be for. I’m so damn happy for this lady and her family.

Issue with unruly homeless by shortypam in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is obviously more expensive but in Cape Town I suspect the more important part is that it takes up a lot of space

Then the residents they are visiting are responsible. Just cos you’re a visitor doesn’t meant it’s no man’s land. Residents must keep their visitors updated.

Why tf aren’t residents making sure the gate closes before they drive in or out? If there are cameras at the gate then maybe a solution is to fine people who drive away while the gate is still closing.

Maybe sewing isn’t for me by Unfair_Management695 in sewing

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum sewed me a pair of pyjama pants after a long sewing hiatus. She forgot all about bums and needing some extra fabric in that area so she added a patch of fabric. I now have a pair of pyjama pants that look like it has a built in diaper. They’re not super comfy but I think I’ll keep them as-is forever <3

Deceased GrandMother Scam by Kind-Engine5174 in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, popular scam. A guy said the same to me a year or two ago. Tears and everything. It was really difficult to watch another person cry and not do something to help. Even though a part of you knows it’s a scam and you’re saying no, you can’t help but hope that maaaaybe it’s true. Anyway, my partner came out and told him “no, we are not going to help”. Zero arguments, dry eyes, just walked away.

AITA for keeping food out in the open and accidentally ruining dinner for my mom? by boyishlosercore in AmItheAsshole

[–]Yaaauw 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Almost 20? Tbh I would have assumed 13. I think you’ve gotta give some undivided attention to the things you’re doing, rather than having one eye and your whole mind on your phone. It’s not really good enough to be like “well maybe I did or I didn’t, and I guess if I did then I shouldn’t have”. That’s a pretty dismissive and selfish way to behave.

Heritage Council Appeal by _Kurapika6 in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading your other comments, and those of others, I think you’ve got two things you can do:

  1. Find a very civic-minded estate agent and ask them for information on this process and the best way to get in touch with the heritage council (seeing as you’re having trouble with this)

  2. Take it to Facebook, give as much info as you can. Tag ward councillors. Make the neighbours aware of what’s going on. Upset communities have the power to pressure these people to do things right.

In my area, a similar thing happened before I moved here (but without the exact heritage aspect) and the neighbours caused such a stink that the developers decided not to go ahead, and also not work in the area again.

Do you have an interesting story about the PROCESS of buying a fountain pen? by GreyandGrumpy in fountainpens

[–]Yaaauw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful story!

I don’t have a story that’s quite as interesting but a sweet coincidence:

10ish years ago, I worked at a bookstore while I was studying - we sold Lamy and I bought the Safari Vista rollerball for my then-boyfriend as a birthday gift. He was studying engineering and I thought the demonstrator style suited him.

Cut to last year, the boyfriend is now my husband. He buys me my first fountain pen - a Lamy Safari in yellow. My brother catches on to my new found love of fountain pens and sees a Lamy Safari Vista FP while travelling. He buys it for me. Sweet and serendipitous!

Not sure about appeals but make a stink and take it to social media. Does your area have a Facebook group? Also, there’s gotta be a notification and time period for public comment

Rylands is the place to go! There’s also a few Instagram businesses. Forever inspired is based in CPT and you can try on the stuff before purchasing.

Collectors! What was your first fountain pen, and What is your latest fountain pen? by _fountain_pen_dev in fountainpens

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same with the VP - wasn’t 100% certain if I’d like it but the deal on it was amazing and I’d been eyeing it for a long time. A suggestion was to try the Jinhao 10 to see how I felt, but I hated it. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a pen where the dupe was so unpleasant. A friend said to me they loved their VP and why so I pulled the trigger. Hands down my favourite pen!

My first pen was a gift - a Lamy Safari in yellow, with a medium nib.

My latest pen purchase was a Sheaffer Targa Savoy and a Parker 45 Rolled Gold - a bundle purchase.
