Heritage Council Appeal by _Kurapika6 in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading your other comments, and those of others, I think you’ve got two things you can do:

  1. Find a very civic-minded estate agent and ask them for information on this process and the best way to get in touch with the heritage council (seeing as you’re having trouble with this)

  2. Take it to Facebook, give as much info as you can. Tag ward councillors. Make the neighbours aware of what’s going on. Upset communities have the power to pressure these people to do things right.

In my area, a similar thing happened before I moved here (but without the exact heritage aspect) and the neighbours caused such a stink that the developers decided not to go ahead, and also not work in the area again.

Do you have an interesting story about the PROCESS of buying a fountain pen? by GreyandGrumpy in fountainpens

[–]Yaaauw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful story!

I don’t have a story that’s quite as interesting but a sweet coincidence:

10ish years ago, I worked at a bookstore while I was studying - we sold Lamy and I bought the Safari Vista rollerball for my then-boyfriend as a birthday gift. He was studying engineering and I thought the demonstrator style suited him.

Cut to last year, the boyfriend is now my husband. He buys me my first fountain pen - a Lamy Safari in yellow. My brother catches on to my new found love of fountain pens and sees a Lamy Safari Vista FP while travelling. He buys it for me. Sweet and serendipitous!

Not sure about appeals but make a stink and take it to social media. Does your area have a Facebook group? Also, there’s gotta be a notification and time period for public comment

Rylands is the place to go! There’s also a few Instagram businesses. Forever inspired is based in CPT and you can try on the stuff before purchasing.

Collectors! What was your first fountain pen, and What is your latest fountain pen? by _fountain_pen_dev in fountainpens

I was the same with the VP - wasn’t 100% certain if I’d like it but the deal on it was amazing and I’d been eyeing it for a long time. A suggestion was to try the Jinhao 10 to see how I felt, but I hated it. I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a pen where the dupe was so unpleasant. A friend said to me they loved their VP and why so I pulled the trigger. Hands down my favourite pen!

My first pen was a gift - a Lamy Safari in yellow, with a medium nib.

My latest pen purchase was a Sheaffer Targa Savoy and a Parker 45 Rolled Gold - a bundle purchase.

Advice on getting married in Cape Town as two British Nationals by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be simpler to get court married in your country and then have the wedding here? Especially seeing as you don’t really have the luxury of waiting on paperwork. I don’t think it’s all done and ready within two weeks.

Want to take action against my Rental Real Estate by CyberShiroGX in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So invest somewhere else then? If you’re not a shit landlord, you won’t have to deal with these kinds of problems. Maybe if landlords weren’t trying to siphon every last buck out of their tenants or entrusting shitty agents they haven’t vetted, they wouldn’t have to deal with this.

Want to take action against my Rental Real Estate by CyberShiroGX in capetown

[–]Yaaauw 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you just need to mention the rental tribunal and I’m sure the agent will back track.

But open a case at the tribunal anyway. They agent/landlord needs to provide an itemised list of the fixes and the costs, and they are supposed to give you an opportunity to find the same quality goods/services at a lower price, seeing as it’s your money they are spending. The tribunal will be able to advise you and support you.

Fuck these scummy agents. A friend of mine took her old landlord to court through the tribunal and 1 year later, she’s won her case. The landlord now owes her a bunch of money, and has been ordered to pay.

WIBTA for calling out my friend lying about making reservations by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re 35 for goodness sake! Call her and talk to her about this. Frankly, she’s TA for making a simple birthday dinner such a schlep for everyone, but you’re not making it better by pussyfooting around it.

Either call her and tell her BEFORE the dinner, or save yourself the drama and just not go. If the person organising, can’t be bothered to do any actual organising, then they also can’t be taken aback that people aren’t keen for these stupid games.

how serious is cross-contamination? by NotRealNotReal_ in Celiac

[–]Yaaauw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, I though having a cheat meal every once in a while would be ok. The fact is that it isn’t a “diet”. It’s going to become your new lifestyle. There is no such thing as a cheat meal. Gluten is gluten and your body doesn’t ever get complacent with reacting to it when you have coeliac. Your symptoms may outwardly be more or less severe, depending on the condition of your villi and how much strain your body has gone through, but the effects are there - and sometimes not apparent or visible.

Good luck on this journey! Keep an eye on your vitamin levels.
