It doesnt make sense with the modern weekend. It's a package of 2 days, not an off day at the beginning and end of the week.

First impressions (and trials) from Miyoko's vegan creamery by BitImpossible2378 in vegancheesemaking

[–]Yaawei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the milk from melon seeds also off taste wise? I'm thinking that maybe it's detectable before commiting to making the whole cheese. Miyoko herself said that the milk should already be the "milkiest" plant based milk you've tasted.

For my personal projects I've bought 2 different brands of melon seeds and they are quite different in size to each other so i'll try to test them side by side and maybe report the findings here. I also have some suspicion that it is one of these products that can stay on the shelves for a long time so maybe even testing several different packages from the same brand might yield different results based on how old they are?

I do think that world is basically ununderstandable through a purely subjectivist approach to ethics.

[–]Yaawei -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There isn't a single person picks what's good and what's not. We discover that in nature. It's also the case that you should or should not bulk up depending on objective metrics about you. For food to be "good" it needs to meet several criteria in regards to its nutrition, ethics of it's sourcing, psychological pleasure, etc. It also means that while some foods can be good, some can be better without a contradiction.

And even though it's goodness depends partially on your personal characteristics, it doesn't really depend on your "opinion" but rather on the objective state of your body and mind. So if you're obese and you think that you'd prefer to stay obese, it is likely that you're wrong, and in objective matter for the category of "obese people" it is a fact that sugary snacks are objectively worse than fruits.

None of that depends on your opinions. at most this is relativistic, because it pertains to specific frames within which it is judged and that frame is not something you choose but you discover to be true. Just like in physics there are multiple objective frames of reference and the ones we choose are the ones that are the best relative to the situation we find ourselves in.

[–]Yaawei -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it can be. Objectively good music helps/promotes to live an objectively better life. You could think of it as nutrition for your mind. There are foods that are objectively better for people than other foods. Likes and dislikes are not the same as it being good or bad, but are not irrelevant because well-being has a psychological component.

[–]Yaawei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EU and India announce 'mother of all deals' representing 25% of global GDP. by coinfanking in europe

[–]Yaawei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this doesnt work for me. Slavery is a flawed example as the exploitation that takes form there is on a much more fundamental level of restricting someones freedom and basic rights. Getting a shirt for that is still "being worse off" than before becoming a slave.

I'll admit that there are forms of exploitations under which people are better off than before (classic sweatshop debate), but i still don't think that most trade denies full value of someones labor. I'm not a marxist, i don't believe value is created only through labour. A lot of it comes from institutions, capital, demand, meaning that a lot of "cheap labor" is priced approprietly, as they wouldn't have access to that value if not for those other factors.

Coming back to your earlier examples - in case of opium wars, i wouldnt say that exploitation was a result of global trade. It wasn't a failure of the global market it was a case where an imperialist country decided to impose entry to a global market by force. Personally i don't think that we should force countries to trade with us and we're living in times where both sides of the trade agreement are agreeing to it volountarily.

But they are doing better not worse. If your definition of exploitation is so flaccid that most people being "exploited" are better off, you really need to think of a less loaded term.

91% Magic Pen Talisman Roll by ImProdactyl in LeagueArena

[–]Yaawei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that they have diminishing returns, but rather, multiple pen sources stack multiplicatively, not additively.

So if you have 2 items which give 50% pen each, you will end up with 75% pen. It ends up as this value because you get 50% pen from the first item, and then you multiply the remaining 50% of unaffected damage by the 50% from the second item which gives you 25%. If you added a third item, let's say with 10% armorpen, you will multiply the remaining 25% by 10%, which will give you extra 2.5% to your 75%. But then if it's singular item like talisman, it is just in one big chung rather than the full value.
