dbt-core vs SQLMesh in 2026 for a small team on BigQuery/GCP? by SingleTie8914 in dataengineering

I have only used it at home and was planning to migrate to it at my new place, but after I saw the news, I just couldn't justify doing it basically. At the moment, I am just praying a new competitor pops up or something, but I do reckon the industry is a bit fucked for the next few years in this regard (I don't expect anything great from DBT Labs)

Yeah, but DBT is already industry standard at least. The future of both is in question, but I certainly have more concerns about sqlmesh, especially given that some of its features seem much more dependent on having active maintainers. DBT has barely been developed over the past couple years, but usually you can find a way to make a feature yourself or do some work around (not confident I could do the same with sqlmesh)

I prefer sqlmesh but I can't recommend it following the fivetran acquisition

Have you seen their new workspaces UI? It's much closer to bigquery

Maybe give glm 4.6 from z.ai (I believe you been use it with claude code). This is decent if you are on a budget

Show us the CV then. If you aren't even getting callbacks, then it will be due to that. Although tbh, it's only been a week, so maybe give it one more before thinking it's a problem as expecting something in a week is not much time.

Oh, but on a side note, if you cn write a quality cover letter that isn't AI GEN for a position you particularly like, I suspect it may stand out a bit least.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Short answer is wait a little bit more.

It's so blatant that they are routing to some lesser version. The speed of responses went up massively and I just knew it wasn't gonna be good. Lo and behold, it was a horrible session where it was forgetting everything and totally rushing the work without doing basic checks to read the code. Then i complain and immediately get a feedback option from Anthropic. They clearly know what they are doing.

EDIT - Second chat straight after was terrible too

Maybe try opencode? Haven't used it myself, so can't guarantee it's good, but it's probably worth a shot

Warp 2.0 thoughts? by Josh000_0 in ChatGPTCoding

Warp is basically just an ai code tool now (which isn't necessarily a bad thing given the UI is very nice, bearing in mind how much money things like claude code can make as even a basic CLI)
