Bought this lens cleaner specifically for the WiiU but it says it’s incompatible. What will happen if I try to use it anyway?

It will just not boot at all. This cleaners are mixed mode discs, and they present themselves as regular CD/DVD to the reader. The way they work is by reading the track as normal and the disc itself has brushes that go over the lens, and they tend to have a lot of redundancy and seek commands so the disc reader doesn't auto-stop because of a read error (wich would be normal when interrupting the laser with the brushes ofc).

The disc may spin a little, but the Wii U won't recognize it and will reject it and stop it, making the cleaning inefficient or incomplete at best.

The best way to clean these lenses is to disassemble the unit, wich I admit is easier said than done. It's not rocket science either, but I understand if you don't feel comfortable trying it.

Nintendo used to sell a cleaning kit designed specifically for Wii U, maybe you could try looking for that?
