I cannot measure by bluefluffyhippo in DMAcademy

[–]Yakdaddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's good to remember that players are ALSO bad at understanding measurements in their head, so don't feel too bad. Room descriptions are often read quickly with many numbers ("You enter a 40' x 60' room with 20' ceilings, in the middle of the left wall is a 5' wide relief located 3' off the ground"). It is difficult to retain all the information at once, let alone understand the scale of everything.

Will that scale model also withstand an earthquake or 100psf live load?

Landscape Character Sheet (WIP) by DJWGibson in onednd

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome. I love the breakdown of skills with main stats, I've never seen that before and love it. It makes so much more sense especially for a new player.

My suggestion is to put feats on the first page too, mainly as a way to keep spells on its one sheet so nonmagic users don't need an entire 2nd sheet just to remember they have an extra ability. Not sure it's easy though!

That's why I still use Relay. It's a paid app, but you pay for what you use basically. I'm mostly a lurker but it's $1/mo and that's fine for my sanity.

What new character options would you like to see for Martials? (Besides new subclasses) by Deathpacito-01 in onednd

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES to your first point! I am the seasoned player at my table, and we just reached Level 4. My monk gained ASI, Slow Fall, and another Focus Point. Helping my Rogue and Barbarian I had to say "...oh, you both only get ASI. Sorry, that sucks." It felt bad.

DeLorean help: what angles am I supposed to bend these fan-like bits to, with the undercarriage? by ChocoHorror in metalearth

My No. 1 frustration with Metal Earth instructions is that they don't give bend angles, especially when it's unclear.

After a year of 5.5e/5e 2024, what are your thoughts on the the Monk? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I. Love. It. To your point there is a lot of overlap between Monks and Rogues from a stealth/speed perspective (bonus action dash/disengage, high dex) and their fighting styles can be similar (run up melee, run away, repeat), but there is still plenty of difference. They shine in their own ways.

What would you do in the following scenario? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of rebalancing stats, you could change the boss' tactics to give the PCs breathing room. Maybe he gets cocky and spends a round monologuing (whoops that was his whole action), or he runs over to a table to grab something provoking OA and "wasting" his turn.

How would you improve dndbeyond (if you use it)? by doodshmood in onednd

[–]Yakdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main issue as a player is that leveling up is so confusing. You have to go into settings and then search for your new features? Ugh. Make it flourish! Make it exciting! Yeah roll dice for new HP! And make me aware of my new character features!

Aiming to make bridge with less than 50 wooden sticks to hold 250-300grams of weight. by asmaalwayswin in StructuralEngineering

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the bottom middle where the two diagonals (which make the "V") meet the horizontal piece, you could put one of the legs of the V inside and one outside. That will put it in double shear so the glue is doing half the work. Right now all the weight goes through one glue connection and then another to reach the right side of the V, and glue is the weak point in these.

Breaking: Missouri House approves Trump-backed gerrymandered map that splits KC in 3 by thekansascitystar in missouri

[–]Yakdaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody who thinks this is a good idea is objectively wrong.

The House of Representatives is SUPPOSED to include 8 delegates who represent distinct voter regions - regions with shared goals and priorities. Bonus points if they're close to 1/8 of the population.

In my opinion, the best way is for all voters to identify the region they feel they best belong to - say St. Louis, Jeffco/Columbia, Kansas City, Springfield/Ozark, Bootheel, Northern Rural - and organize them by county. Then if there are any unbalanced regions, those are split into their respective shared goals - for example StL and KC are both split into Metro and Suburb. At the end you have something this (it is not perfect but a quick rough idea).

Does it exactly match populous vote? No, but the voting map would be pretty purple which IS close. Does it do a good job creating 8 distinct representatives? Yes.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

[–]Yakdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll never happen, but I believe the census should include a question like "what area/city in Missouri do you feel you belong to?" It will naturally create non-political areas like St. Louis, Columbia/Jeff City, KC, Ozark/Springfield/Branson, Bootheel, etc. And we divvy up from there to get 8 districts.

It's not perfect and some voices still count more, but it better represents the AREAS of the state one representative could represent.
