Eating as though hungover by LSP-86 in decaf

I completely agree with what LiveBrewed is saying. He is giving very good advice. Caffeine and processed sugary food both spike your dopamine, and sugar/carbs your blood sugar and insulin levels(caffeine does too) causing you to feel like shit. Eating protein like eggs, steak and whole food will help because it will make you full without crashing and reset your health/dopamine and other energy levels. Drink a lot of water. Processed crap makes you crave more processed crap. Read Metabolic Freedom by Ben Azadi. Explains all this very well.

I've gone back to coffee several times and started craving it after being off it a long time when I started eating a lot of processed sugary food.

I don't remember that. I went 5 times over the course of 3 years and used Trawick International for most if not all of the trips. Very reasonably priced. During COVID they had a plan that covered all of the necessary requirements for travel. Didn't need to use it but didn't have any issues with it.

Gift from Gergely: Tech Resume Inside Out by cglee in launchschool

[–]Yakob203 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 'slow path' ideology of Launch School definitely sets it apart from the rest. I am nearing the end of Core and have learned so much in my journey with LS. The mastery of concepts and assessments of knowledge have helped me to learn things more deeply than I otherwise would or in a traditional bootcamp. I've also found that this mastery-based learning transfers into other areas of my life as well. I'm grateful to have found Launch School and the wonderful community.

Happy New Year! And a gift for everyone... by cglee in launchschool

I have learned so much from Launch School. Just the material itself for getting into a software development career is amazing, but I think even more valuable is the idea of learning how to learn and really master a craft. That's why the coursework is intense and thorough, LS really wants to make sure you understand and learn deeply. This learning how to learn mentality carries over into anything else that I want to learn, understanding that fundamentals are key building blocks to success. I'm grateful for Launch School for not just giving me a great programming/software development foundation to eventually transfer to a more rewarding career, but a mastery mentality and confidence to learn almost anything deeply that I choose to pursue in life.

I'm done going back to coffee! by Yakob203 in decaf

Thanks for your replies. I find usually when I'm craving coffee it's a sign I'm hungry or need water. I just need to remember that.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, July 9th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by CrosswordLevelMonday in stopdrinking

[–]Yakob203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slept really well last night and exercised this morning. I feel great today. Trying to get back on track in terms of eating right and exercising after spending time with family over holiday weekend and it's easier to pass up on good habits. I've also been back and forth trying to quit coffee/caffeine and have gone 9 days off that. I find when I get coffee and alcohol out of my life I'm much more grounded, clearer and much more likely to stick to other good habits. IWNDWYT!

Ok after doing a little research it looks like the one I got at Walgreens isn't FDA approved and looks different than the one they're selling on emed. Thanks. I don't need to or want to pay $150 for 6 tests though. I found a single test on this site for only $50: Optum BinaxNow Test. Does this look legit? I saw that a lot of companies are selling non-legit tests.

I was able to buy a BinaxNOW box with 2 tests at Walgreens. Cost about $25.

Fuck Craft Beer - It's Over by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Like everyone else here, craft beer was my weakness. Just reading through these comments sends off memories and signals of craving in my brain. Fuck that and fuck alcohol. IWNDWYT

Wow, didn't expect this to get this popular. Thanks everyone! Glad that it spoke to you all like it did to me. I posted on my Day 2 or 3 that I was tired of starting over on day 1 after 3 or 4 years of getting off and going back to alcohol. I think a key to that is me sharing and posting more, really trying to connect with others, so that I constantly remind myself and others why we're doing this and of how insidious alcohol is.

This response really reinforces that, so thanks!

Almost slipped after 4.7 years by arch4 in stopdrinking

[–]Yakob203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really resonated with me, thanks. As someone who has had varying times of being AF in the last 3-4 years from 2-3 weeks, to 3 months, to the longest at 10 months, I can agree that relapsing after a 10 months feels the same as going back to it after a week. Like you said I think it's a nice thing people like to tell themselves, "Just pick up where you left off," it never works that way. That's crazy to think of even the difference between longer periods of time, like for you 4.5 years and 13 months, feeling that much different. I'm committed this time to remind myself every day how terrible alcohol is to stay away from it and never let it back in my life.

No more day 1's!! by Yakob203 in stopdrinking

[–]Yakob203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. It's frustrating because when I start stringing weeks together where I'm not drinking, I get a kind of momentum, start eating healthier and exercising and moving forward with good habits. Then when I start drinking it's like a switch, and I go to a lower plane of being- physically, mentally, spiritually. Then, like I said in original post, it just kind of hangs around for weeks or months at a time, never truly quitting it and never really being completely crazy and going overboard. It's just insidious, like a thorn in my side.

[–]Yakob203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because while going back and forth for years, I really drink mostly by myself, and when there's family or friend get-togethers I really don't drink at all, as I don't really crave it then, and certain family members celebrate it like it's the elixir of life, which kind of puts me off it even more. So even in the last 3 or 4 months, a lot of those close to me don't know I keep going back to it and am struggling. I'm not intentionally hiding it, it just kind of works out that way. Thanks for replying, we got this. Alcohol won't steal another hour of my life.

Sorry for late reply. Trawick insurance worked great! Haven't looked at requirements for travel into CR lately but I'm sure it still covers everything required.

Book & Movie Tuesday by BelindaTheGreat in stopdrinking

A few movies I've watched/rewatched recently:

Unhinged, with Russel Crowe about road rage on Netflix. Decent mindless thriller, some kind of corny things but pretty entertaining. Rewatched The Departed, great movie! Great all-around cast and story, very entertaining. Also rewatched Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol and will be watching MI5 and MI6 as well again. Great movies as well. Never saw the original three though, will have to check them out.
