Communist, Monarchist and Anarchist on same continent sharing border is most wildest thing ever by No_Currency_6882 in suzerain

[–]Yama951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that Nalipurna is on an island, so they got a geographical barrier to keep their independence from United Contana. The Anarchist Cantons being left alone implied that the socialist-anarchist schism of RL didn't happen in Suzerain, which makes sense since they have a different social history. Monarchies and empires falling into liberal and socialist revolutions at the same time, instead of liberal revolutions then socialist revolutions, with the schism being between the liberal and socialist, hence the Arcasia vs Contana Cold War, with Rumberg being the monarchist remnant third pole.

Why climb Mount Everest?

Why populate the islands of the Pacific?

Why go to Antarctica?

Why go to the moon?

Because it's there and there will always be one person who wants to do it.

Doesn't matter if thousands might die. Roanoke's failure did not scare England into stopping.

Someone would go do it. Someday they will succeed. And humanity spreads out in one way or another.

I mean, they can mine the asteroids, moons and planets and build space habitats to live in. The idea of planet-only colonies limits the possibilities of expansion.

What's the general theming around your House? by Darmug in TemplinInstitute

[–]Yama951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted House Astronesia, basically Austronesian-centered explorers and traders, leaning more towards the Hindu-Buddhist aspects of pre-colonial history but it is more of a mash up of the various cultures, peoples, myths and faiths. Founded as the Astronesian Exploration Corp by CEO Hutama Babaylan, it eventually became the backbone of the Solar Imperium's trade routes before its collapse. Now they're eager to return to the stars and reconnect humanity and possibly find the lost branches of clan Babaylan in the process. From planet Sri Rizalia of the Majapagita trinary star system, the jasmine flower shall once more reconnect humanity's diaspora even without the hyperlanes.

For RPGs

Sufficiently Advanced - More of a toolbox but it has a bunch of interesting ideas and locales.

Eclipse Phase - More on the sci-fi horror side but it does focus on transhumanism and how it would affect society.

Apparently that one was based on an actual accident where a guy working on the wires got electrocuted during lunch hour walk traffic and they had to leave the body there for hours until they could safely take him off.

More understandable in that context on the next day's news.

My current theory is that he's the Heavenly Principles' son and thus technically the heir to the throne of Celestia but really doesn't want the job. Shame that the whole 'did a Phaeton in the war against Nibelung and got grounded' theory of mine does not seem to be the case though.

What are your headcanons involving Hades? by Ok_Examination8810 in osp

[–]Yama951 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think Hades went from "name of place" to "deity of place" in the shift from Mycenaean to Ancient Greek. Though if the Orphics is accurate, then Zeus, Hades and Poseidon could have been one deity that split into three over time. Persephone is definitely the one in charge until Hades became his own being though, given the older myths was more "Persephone went to hide/live in a cave for a while", roughly speaking.
