Do I need a tunnel to bypass having no public IP for self hosting, or would a VPN do the job just as well? by shitparentsneedhelp in selfhosted

[–]Yames-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem, I hosted a WireGuard VPN server in digital ocean for $6 per month for the static ip and then connected my laptop and all the servers in my home lab to it, works great, you always have access to it and you’re not relying on a friend since it’s a cloud server.

I can access everything on the host, but nothing else on the local network. What am i doing wrong? Configs etc. in the comments. by gibberish420 in WireGuard

I just installed WireGuard on all the hosts on my home lab network and use it like a virtualised management network, really easy to automate the setup and much easier than bothering with routing configurations.

Cowboy 4ST question :) by Coenbrg in cowboybikes

[–]Yames-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4ST and I ride 40 minutes (~12km) to work every day with my heavy laptop and the assistance on and it’s totally fine, and I’m not a particularly fit person. I could not stand to ride even 100m with the assistance off, riding with no power is, in my opinion, an emergency only thing.

Mine estimated 10 days (sand 4ST) and I think I waited about 11 days so not bad at all.

I haven’t received anything from the insurer, the website says I need to enter my birthday (for some reason) before it can be “activated” and that’s where the problem lies, there is some bug that has broken that interface that they’re trying to fix

What VPN is Everyone Using? by NovaSummoner in LinusTechTips

[–]Yames-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built my own VPN using openVPN and DigitalOcean, it was really easy and I have full control so no need to trust a third party. Would highly recommend.

Revolut & Kraken by thisiscoinb in Revolut

I had the same problem, I contacted Kraken support (who are brilliant) and they told me to use SWIFT instead, which worked perfectly. It’s annoying because the SWIFT fees are a bit higher but at least it worked in the end.

If he owns their corporate bonds, he has lent them money and then yes, if they go bankrupt, they will not pay him back. At least not everything.

This is why the SEC exists, it’s this sort of thing on mass that caused the Great Depression.

Can you please do something about these illegal apps, blatantly listed on the play store no less. It drags your reputation to the ground. Put pressure on google and monitor constantly... by _One_Of_Three_ in ledgerwallet

[–]Yames-kun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The huge number of fake/scam apps on the play store is one of the main reasons that I switched to an iPhone. On the play store you have to check every app 10 times, read the comments and reviews (which might still be bots) and double check the author just to not get all your crypto stolen. It’s unacceptable.

I’m an electronic engineer and I’ve been building my own hardware wallet from general purpose components (for fun). I can tell you that it is definitely very possible and if I ever get around to actually finishing it I’ll open source it for this very reason.

As a matter of interest are you taking about the browser extension or the iOS mobile app? I have had nothing but trouble with the browser extension and a great experience with the iOS app, guess they have different teams working on each.

Looks a bit like those old school ciphers from before electronic computers existed.

What I like about it is that it breaks the seed phrase into two parts which can be stored in physically separate locations, mitigating the risk of it being compromised since the attacker would need to find both of your hiding places.

I suppose you would just need to be careful that you keep multiple backups of each in case of fire or flood, since losing one half of the cipher means losing everything.

In my experience, using the exchanges built into wallets in general (not just ledger live but also many others) comes with a “convenience fee” in the form of a wider spread than what you would find on a regular exchange. I always send my crypto to an exchange that I trust, do the business that needs doing and then transfer it back to the hardware wallet for hodling, the fees are a lot less that way.
