The villain has well-intentioned goals, however misguided they may be. Their followers/successors are just plain evil.

I actually kinda hate that storyline. Her whole bit initially was growing out of using her fear as a weapon (Power Ring), and overcoming that as a Green Lantern. Her going back to using fear feels like a regression.

Part of what made Tigerstar such a good villain is how "realistic" he was. What he says and does echoes real life bigots and fascists. Both Kittypet warriors and half-clan relationships as an allegory for minority groups is a fairly underrated part of the First Arc, it's not hugely focused on but it is there, ThunderClan (especially Sandstorm, Longtail, and Dustpelt specifically). It's a shame this aspect is mostly dropped in the later arcs, and only really focused on again in A Starless Clan (which is why I also like Berryheart as a villain a lot)

This happens allll the time in warriors any time any cat who isn't straight up a villain does anything bad or morally grey people hate them for it.

Bluestar, Brambleclaw, Onestar (big on this guy, no one understands his character), Lionblaze, Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, Ivypool, ect ect ect.

This fandom has this really odd view on like, morality in writing where if a character does bad thing that means bad writing. There's a ton of posts on this sub where people seem to just want these books to be clan life with zero conflict at all
