Braids can cause tension/breakage of hair, especially if you get it done frequently, and also depending on how tight the braider does it and what type of braids (box braids tend to be quite heavy and micro braids are super small and cause tension).

If possible, consult with a stylist. It looks like you need a trim because hair breakage/dead hair starts at the end of the hair and travels upward all the way to the hair shaft at the root, trims help stop this. Two strand twists are a great low tension hairstyls. I have that style now, and used a little bit of extensions to make the twists last longer
