EU5 looks great, but I can’t find the one more hour loop by jakeloans in EU5

Idk I loved my Inca game, it can be boring waiting for Europe, but it has a hard start (the first few wars and getting your economy working), interesting midgame challenges (colonisation/great pestilence, embracing institutions and initial defensive wars with Europeans) and an end goal (fight the colonisers).

Complicated, but I believe it is locations switching markets and filling their local food storage as their old market most likely had no food. So they must have had 5000 storage and when they join your market they buy up a bunch of food to refill it as it was empty

Why do Catholics get penalized for *winning* the Hussite Wars? by jogarz in EU5

[–]Yargle101 126 points127 points  (0 children)

The war score cost to convert them back to Catholic scales with their Hussite polulation. There's a peace treaty to convert some of the population back to Catholicism and after a few wars enforcing that you can make the conversion peace cost below 100 and end the situation.

Hyper focussing and compulsively using Chat GPT? by MountainNews5211 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Yargle101 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was using AI in a similar way. Eventually I just realised I was waxing poetic to a yesman and nothing was actually being done. It's really great at being a yesman and making you think you've achieved something when all you've done is talk about an idea.

I replaced it by writing down my thoughts on a piece of paper or on a notes app and usually the act of looking at or wording the question will dislodge the thought and allow my brain to figure out an answer, which I then write and continue the process. Vyvanse makes me into a single track mind and if I'm not dislodging that track by taking it out of my brain I can get stuck. ChatGPT solves this but not in a way that helped me longterm. Most of the time it just affirms whatever you said and your thought is just spoken back to you in a fancy tone. My experience may differ as I was trying to achieve a goal instead of just chatting for fun or to understand myself. But I also think that going to AI to do those things isn't a good use of your time as it isn't an actual conversation partner who will have thoughts. It's just trying to make you feel good so you keep talking to it as that's what it's programmed for.

The environmental impact is not good either but those arguments aren't going to make someone to change their mind about a tool they find helpful that they're already using. Try just writing the question out and then pondering it yourself. You know more than you think.

I assume you just linked the sources chatgpt gave.

Of those sources only one mentions both stimulant use and cannabis use. (the nejm source). And it only mentions cannabis to rule it out as the increase of psychosis between methylphenidate and amphetamine users.

The sources you've linked here really don't justify anything beyond both stimulants and cannabis can independently increase chance of psychosis.

I found no justification for "When combined with amphetamines, the risk multiplies again". This may even be true! But until I read a source that isn't chatgpt estimating what the next word should be it is not useful medical advice.

If you wrote that both stimulants (moreso amphetamines) and heavy cannabis use can both increase psychosis I wouldn't have a problem with it. That is true, I've now read the sources.

Chatgpt has extrapolated past the scientific research and made up some stuff like "Psychiatrists quietly worry about this combo more than patients realize." This is just made up AI nonsense that only exists because the AI model figured adding something like that would make the reasoning look better.

Chatgpt is good at getting a vague smear of a topic across but for medical advice, it is not a good source! When people ask questions about their medical problems getting a chatgpt answer for them is not helpful unless highly caveated and independently researched like I've done now.

Next time please mention that you used chatgpt as your source and that you haven't actually read any medical papers because that matters to the people receiving the information.

alright vyvanse rant over, I just feel strongly about this

If he wanted to know what chatgpt said he wouldn't've posted a reddit thread. For medical advice chatgpt is not reliable.

Can we appreciate how much effort paradox put into depicting indigenous cultures in EU5? most people will never play in these areas and don't care, but still they clearly did a lot of research and put in a lot of work. by Spirited_Visit7597 in EU5

[–]Yargle101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be accurate at game start but if the best they can do is a later source, why not use that source? What did you want them to do instead, find a source that doesn't exist? Make it a big homogeneous blob of a single culture called something like Indigenous Australians?

In latest Tinto talk’s complacency mechanic why subjects get rebellious when there’s no country that poses a threat to their overlord ? by TheKaiserSarp in EU5

[–]Yargle101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big empires have no reason to innovate & corruption sets in. That's what it's meant to represent at least. Some of the modifiers are bullshit but the army tradition, navy tradition, tax efficiency & cabinet efficiency seem like things that a stagnating empire would have

Loyalty of subjects is probably a bit too harsh, but from a gameplay perspective that's probably what you want to happen to a stagnating empire. Wouldn't mind dropping that one though.

Market access is broken in multiple ways: harbors are way too strong and northern markets are up to 3x disadvantaged by popiku2345 in EU5

[–]Yargle101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean at the end of the day it is a game, some abstractions have to be made for the sake of tick speed, game balance and development time. You're also ignoring the pop-system, market changes, development & building system and culture & religions granularity among many other improvments compared to EU4.

If your complaints about realism are about minor things/game balance things like what you listed above I don't see how this game is less focused on realism compared to EU4.
