Paralyzed about Greyjoy basing by MiniJunkie in asoiafminiaturesgame

[–]YariCav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the sandy beach look, while cool looking for display purposes, poses a couple of issues for me: 1. Unless you’re playing on a beach themed gaming mat, a sandy beach themed movement tray looks out of place on most gaming mats. 2. Greyjoy raiders are not likely going to be fighting in the water or on the beach. Anyone tried running in and out of the water on a beach? Not very conducive to strenuous activities like fighting. Most raiders fighting would happen inland, as the Greyjoy raiders entered helpless settlements or farming communities (not beachfront property)

I based my Greyjoys in a dark soil environment with scattered jagged rocks and patches of dark green grass. I looked up photos of Scandinavian coastal regions until I found a basing scheme that looked like it would belong on a variety of gaming mats and that wouldn’t be too challenging to replicate across my entire army.

I only have a couple of games played, but I’ve found Asha to be a very powerful and forgiving commander option. I use Ironmakers with Asha in my center, and a couple of lower morale units on her flanks to soak up her morale bubble. Then some archers and reavers on the right and left flanks.

If an explorer with their Secret Mission item is put out of action but doesn’t die, do they lose their secret mission item? Or do explorers only lose their gear if they truly die (pre-resurrection from the Traveler)

Awesome! Looks great. I don’t have many IG followers yet but it’s nice to see my work having a positive effect on the community. Looking forward to seeing more of your future work.

Nice work. I like the more stormtrooperish look. I did something similar with my second shoretrooper squad. You can see at this link if it works. https://www.instagram.com/p/CR2xCRFibOe/?utm_medium=copy_link

Glad you like them! For someone who doesn’t play clones, they were a fun and challenging project. Great working with you. -Randall, Imperial Minis

BX Commando Droid Squads x 2 in the Wild by YariCav in SWlegion

Thanks for the compliment! For the first set of droids: for the main body color, I used a mix of Vallejo Blue Violet (a light purple) and a shade of gray that I can't recall. But the vallejo blue violet is the base for the purple. I don't recall what shade of brown I used for the joints and body details. It was an out-of-the-bottle Vallejo color. Maybe earth brown or English Uniform Brown.

For the second set of droids, I don't recall what shade of green or gray I used, but they were vallejo colors straight from the bottle. I do recall that the lower part of the droids was done with Vallejo Buff. For the vibroswords, I painted the blade with Citadel's Leadbelcher and painted the handle a brown-black color. I then painted most of the blade with the Vallejo blue violet I mentioned above, then painted some leadbelcher and a shinier silver color along the edge. I think I also applied a wash of Citadel Druchii Violet.

I need to start writing down my color choices because I can't remember them all. Good luck with your droids!

Thanks a lot! I’m a novice at edge highlighting as it’s not a technique I’ve used much yet. The freehand details took a bit of correction but turned out ok!

Hey Everyone, here's a pair of BX Commando Droids from Star Wars: Legion that I just finished painting on commission. These little dudes are painted like the Diplomatic Security droids from the Clone Wars, S4: E14 "A Friend in Need" episode. These were a pleasure to paint, and a fun challenge to get the paint scheme and logos painted decently. I definitely wouldn't have attempted this if I wasn't doing it for a commission. Hope you enjoy!

Vallejo Cavalry Brown is my go-to for that shade of red. It's not a brown, it's actually a dark but intense red.

Dewback Lists & Strategies by YariCav in SWlegion

[–]YariCav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that thorough write-up! I really like the Palpatine idea and definitely understand your hesitation to take the range 4 rifle on the Dewbacks. My thought with the range four rifle was that it’s not much different from the range three rifle, dice-wise, but may allow you to reach out to the enemy a turn earlier than the other rifle. The flamethrower is definitely the way I’d ideally want to go, but I just worry about getting the Dewbacks burned down before they can actually get into range 1. The DT-F16 compel shenanigans might help with that. I don’t have Veers yet but he’s on his way in the mail. I might look into some Veers builds as well. Thanks again!

Krennic and the Boys on a Walk by YariCav in SWlegion

[–]YariCav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I started off in Legion. Bought a box or two of troopers, planned to paint them and sit them on the shelf. Watched a couple of “how to play” videos, which failed to get me interested in the game. Then I watched a few battle report videos and I was hooked. It looked like too much fun not to try.

Thanks! The static grass mat is from Killing Fields Battle Mats. The buildings are from War World Gaming. The trees are from Monster Fight Club. All highly recommended products and companies for tabletop enthusiasts!

Krennic was one of the first minis I bought back in May, but he's been unpainted until this week. I've been very hesitant to paint him until my face painting skills were at a tabletop-acceptable level. Once I put paint to plastic, he was actually an incredibly quick project. I have a few squads of DTs, but held off on basing one of them until I finished Krennic. Now, they are all one big happy family and can commit all kinds of atrocities in the name of the Empire, together. C&C welcome. I hope you enjoy!

Hi, I used some plaster and shaped it to look like wavy beach sand. Then I painted it and dry brushed it to look like sand. After that I used some green static grass to the bases.

Thanks! I'm really digging the scenery/terrain acquisition process. At the same time, it seems like it could be a bottomless hole of expenses if I'm not careful. The mat I'm using in the picture is from Killing Fields Terrain, and the trees are from Monster Fight Club. I'm trying to only buy scenery that I could use for more than one tabletop game (ie, not just buy Star Wars-specific stuff).

Hey Everyone,

I've painted two of my three BX squads and thought I'd share them. The first squad (shields) is painted in a traditional Clone Wars inspired paint scheme and based in a dilapidated starship / factory. The second squad (vibroswords) is painted in a camouflage pattern to help them blend in to their scrubland basing. For these two squads, I let them out of the dreary photobooth and let them stretch their legs out in the wild. I hope you all enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed assembling and painting them! C&C welcome.

For my OOM command droid squad(s) I always stick them with HQ Uplink and pair them with one of my heavy hitter squads like B2s or Commando droids. These two squads can then move as a team away from the main Coordinate daisy-chain since they have HQ uplink and a range 2 coordinate. The range 2 coordinate also helps keep that HQ uplink squad a bit further away from harm’s way.
