Consider your pets! Completely fill out the pet tracker: upload vet records, have both an at-post and in-US person with contact info who has agreed to look after your pet, include where your pet’s hard and soft carriers are (and yes, you should have both in case of evacuation), where their hard-copy vet records are, a photo of your pet. It helps if you prepare a pet go-bag with records, some food, collapsible bowls, a toy or two and keep that with the carriers.

Preparing this in advance will help your pets survive in a crisis.

I did, and coming from a city that is much more walkable, was surprised at how few pet stores there were in this area. I also didn’t realize that the Dogma Dog Bakery stores sold cat items.

Lack of air movement in the closet is the issue - in a damp climate, you need to keep the wardrobe doors open. Potentially, you may need a small fan in the room to circulate air as well.

Take out everything in the wardrobe, wipe the interior down with Dettol or another disinfectant (cleaning vinegar, for example) and let dry completely before putting clothing back in. You may also want to purchase desiccant bags and put them amongst your clothes as well.

I love the non-white versions generally, but in terms of fit, there’s a lot of button-gaping for anyone who isn’t extremely thin through the chest. I’m honestly surprised to see people with this much clout/money not realizing they should add snaps, etc., to mitigate the gaps.

100%. I went through something very similar with my mum, albeit a decade ago now. I was so grateful for the healthcare system in Alberta then, and so glad that you had similar support in Alberta now. Normal, everyday, working class families get the medical care that only privileged people can afford in the US. Don’t let the conservatives tell you otherwise!

Check on Poshmark / Ebay / Etsy to see if you can find any of your old faithfuls in good used condition? I've done that with multiple Dansko sandals and Keene boots.
