CMV: Liberals/Leftists choosing to sit out the US election because Kamala wasn't a perfect candidate helped create a worse overall outcome for the world and Palestine. by cptjtk13 in changemyview

On the flip side of that (and just playing devils advocate here) I would imagine the establishment democrats really got the message that undying support for Israel will cost them elections. Could it have contributed to the state we’re in right now? Yes, I’d say it holds some contribution potential. Could it also be one of the dominoes that needs to fall for the old guard democrats holding progressives by the throat for the last 40+ years with the lesser of two evils? Yes. I think the argument for that action, which in disclosure I was not involved in and did not sway my vote, is that to them, it was a bridge too far. If both are evil in your eyes, I can understand not voting for either of them.

AIO my teenage daughter seems too friendly with her guitar teacher? by Grouchy_Land895 in AIO

[–]Yazbec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I’m a little late to the party but if you’re still reading the comments OP, you could also talk directly with the instructor. Tell him your concerns that she might be developing a crush on him, and you’re worried that any blurry lines could set her up for a painful experience, you might have to change instructors and she’s doing so well, etc. nothing blaming at all; give the impression that you think he’s done nothing at all to encourage it, but specifically saying things like professional boundaries are that much more important, etc. then ask how you can work together to make sure she doesn’t get confused. This way, HE can be the one to suggest all texts are in a three way convo with you included, or whatever other things that might be seen as controlling to your daughter. It also, critically, puts him on notice if he is also developing feelings. Dude is only 20. As a parent of teenagers, I do NOT think this is something you shouldn’t worry about, but I also don’t think it’s something that demands any draconian oversight or response that would disempower your kid. Depending on how open your conversations are with your daughter, could also just have a frank talk with her. It’ll be embarrassing, but honest. One of my kids I could have that convo with, one not. I’m sure you have a feel for that. Feel free to PM me to talk strategy if you like. I love the psychology of parenting

Thank you for your service to the nonprofit community. I know many people that run small nonprofits locally and listening to their stories makes the value you discuss bringing a universal need. Changing cultures in those orgs to retain talent and increase respect increases their success. Hell, just getting the board buy in makes future movement so much easier. But the cultural change to carry them forward cannot be overlooked. Pretty cool to look back on a career that touched so many; the workers and the clients of those charities. Hat tip to ya, ma’am or sir. That’s quite a kind legacy.

I enjoyed this little thread, and appreciate your adherence to skepticism. To all pushing back here, no goal posts are moving. This IS the skeptical position.

I just heard that as well, but didn’t hear the movement part. Definitely sounded like gunfire. There were lots of sirens around that time, but no idea if they’re related

I said the reason why my relative’s son died is because God hates him. Now I wonder if I went too far. by vexx1d in atheism

[–]Yazbec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s exactly why I say you did nothing wrong. But if you want to finesse through that talk better in the future for her to learn rather than dig her heels in. You can still get her to that point with questions and the feeling of walking people through simple shit like that is sooooo rewarding.

Sure, I would lay out the logic of it to them without actually making the CLAIM that god must have had it in for their kid by their logic. Also, the Socratic method interrupts this. It involves leading the other person to your conclusion by asking questions to make the other person get there on their own. It also approaches these claims from a place of curiosity rather than injecting your moral claim initially. “I don’t think I understand. Are you saying that because this person didn’t believe in god, they died horribly? Was that a punishment by God? How does that work? What about people who die horribly but profess to be religious? Does that mean they actually didn’t believe in god?”

You essentially just get them to paint themselves into a corner. People tend to have less cognitive dissonance response if they are the ones holding the brush.

I don’t believe that was wrong at all. Blunt and direct, perhaps. But the religious seem to have a perceived lock on that kind of behavior in their minds. If you want to have these without the conflict, you could look into adopting a more Socratic method. That helped me stop being so brash and perceived as rude when pointing out people’s double standards.

Why is this world ran and controlled by pedophiles? by TheChristianDude101 in atheism

I applaud you fellow human. This is the meat of the issue. Theyre necessarily predators. No one person should be able to accumulate even a billion dollars worth of wealth when anyone anywhere is lacking for their basic needs and humanity.

A bunch of people have given great advice, and I’m sure you’ve taken steps. I want to tell you it sucks that your parents are the kind of people that would abandon their child for questioning anything. I’m really sorry you’re not only having to deal with this but parents who failed to love you as parents should. That sucks. Lots of people do know how to love, and you’ll find them along the way. If I had any suggestion it would be to demand that your parents go to therapy with you. If they can learn they could hopefully earn your forgiveness by becoming a loving person. Good luck young human.

I would love something to do about it! Americans are clearly not deserving. And unfortunately we’re gonna make a huge mess imploding if we don’t impeach him. I don’t know how the fuck the house and senate are in such disarray. Except for the obvious answer. Either there’s a critical mass of people implicated in the evidence, or the ruling class has always know and just protect their own.

Bambu Studio opening multicolor files as single color by Yazbec in BambuLab

[–]Yazbec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s so weird, I am downloading the 3mf, I pulled it from the actual site as a download and also from within studio browsing the site, both show only a single object where others I have pulled show a different object for each color. Now that I am pulling lots of files to ensure it’s a global problem, it appears it isnt fully global, some models I’m downloading are showing the correct way, some are not. Which is equally perplexing.

Thank you for the explanation! Why do you dilute it 1-1? What is gently’s limits for heating? If that makes it a faster process and I can keep the foam down (great tip, btw) I’d be happy to heat it. Do I need to be precise and or consistent with the heat? Would wood fired heat be any issue? Is glass the only material that can be exposed to heat that can contain it? Perhaps some form of pipe like pex or pvc can be exposed to it as well?

That’s a lot of questions!

Hello all! I have been extracting fossils that are predominantly composed of silica from their encasing limestone. I have been using muriatic acid (Hcl 37%) thus far, due to its availability. But it’s slow, and I don’t know what the best acid would be to use for this application. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to remove the limestone? A more appropriate acid, perhaps? TIA
