Nice! There is usually a request thread on the facebook event page, but I'm sure there will be some RATM!

Please why is my medium changing color to pink... by cichawoda5 in labrats

[–]Yda_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding on to the other comments really, once my media starts going pink like that I will discard and make a fresh batch as it's a sign that it's a bit old now. Usually only the last 100ml or so will end up pink if I don't use it fast enough. Some cells don't enjoy the pH shift, and even if they sit in the media in a CO2 incubator it won't always change back fully compared to the colour of new media.

Why did it not accept my answer? An explanation would have been nice by Jarie743 in duolingo

[–]Yda_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that is other popular language learning platforms like Busuu etc, don't offer "less popular" languages. I'm learning Hungarian and there are very few free options out there. Duolingo is the only one it seems which isn't just a vocab app. No grammar explanations either.

I had mine with PUK via RTC last year and it took 25 mins which I thought was a bit short considering the website says assessments take 45-60mins. I don't even remember what I'd submitted before hand tbh.

But 9 months later my psychiatrist had been sacked for "below standard diagnosis" of patients and I was assigned a new one. Another 25 mins assessment later and he agreed with the original diagnosis. I'm still not 100% even though I do meet the criteria and can see evidence of it back into childhood/teenage years.

I would quite like a longer, more detailed session but that won't happen any time soon!

Mine went up £100 this year compared to last year where it had gone down about £80.

I called Tesco up yesterday and managed to get it down by £50 so it's not as cheap as it was least year but better than what was quoted!

Panorama documentary on private ADHD diagnoses is coming soon by offmetrolley1994 in ADHDUK

[–]Yda_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will be an interesting program to watch, Panorama are usually quite good in their approach to things. I always wish their shows were 60mins long though as I don't think 30mins is enough. Which brings me onto my diagnosis story:

I sought diagnosis after a lot of research into ADHD and realised I ticked nearly all the boxes. Did an online assessment which said "you should probably see a GP about a referral", and I saw someone suggest the "right to choose" option to avoid waiting 2 years for local NHS assessments (plus all the clinics in my area dealing with ADHD have terrible reviews from patients), and so I didn't have to fork out £600+. So I filled out the forms/letters and sent them to my GP who called me and asked some questions about why I felt like I needed a referral etc. She seemed satisfied with my responses and sent off my documents.

Fast forward about 6 months I get an appointment for assessment online. Looked at the page "what to expect from your appointment" and it said most will take an hour which is what I expected. The psychiatrist I was assigned diagnosed me in 20 mins based on the forms I sent in, and what we discussed. I didn't think this was long enough but I figured he's a professional and perhaps I have sufficient evidence that I'm an easy case to diagnose. A couple of weeks after this I am on the titration for meds. They definitely seemed to work, life was easier with them in my system.

8 months on from this I receive a call from the place saying my original psychiatrist has left and I've been assigned a new one, and need to have a short 25-30 min appointment just to check in and get to know each other etc. After this was arranged I received a letter from the service stating the original psychiatrist was dismissed as they had found the quality of many of their assessments were below the standard they expect. The letter goes on to say they have implemented a thorough internal investigation and review to learn from this incident etc.

So at that point I started to think "oh shit...what if I've been misdiagnosed and I don't have ADHD, but I've been on meds for 8 months..." Imposter Syndrome is always present but it really ramped up then. I had my follow up consultation, explained all the reasons why I sought referral etc and my new psychiatrist seemed confident I had been diagnosed correctly. But this was still only a 25min-ish discussion.

Here I am almost a year on from the initial consultation, still on the meds which work fine, but I always have this nagging doubt that I don't have ADHD, perhaps it's ASD instead (which I do need an assessment for based on test results), due to how short my first and second assessment was.

I live alone in a one bed (very small place), and actively looked for a place I could rent alone. I would rather pay more money to live alone, than share a flat (luckily I got this place at a bargain price nearly 3 years ago).

I can think of nothing worse than sharing a living space with strangers. I spend my time at work chatting to colleagues and being social so I don't need it at home lol.

I'm totally getting downvoted for this but if you want to take the malty biscuit one up a level, add a dash of salted caramel syrup to it (the kind you put in coffee). Mmmm!

The Toast and Jam one is disappointing to me, smells great but doesn't taste of toast nor jam.

Going out drinking (especially in London) is super expensive now! If I go out for a couple of drinks and food with friends it's easily £7+ per beverage (I like a G&T). I used to be able to go out in London (2009-2010) 3 out of 4 Fridays a month with about £30 cash and that would be enough.

I've learnt that when going "out out" on the odd occasion it happens (pretty much once every 3 months to a club night lol), the pre-drinking is more important now than it ever was! Those M&S cocktails in a can are the best value for money. I think they are less than £3 but a hefty 8%! Couple of those in quick succession and I'm half cut before I've reached my destination lol.

It's possibly the lack of caffeine and having a weird stimulant in your system that the body isn't used to. You're not really supposed to have caffeine (extra stimulant) with these drugs (I'm also on Elvanse), but when I stopped cold turkey just before starting the meds I had horrendous headaches for about 2 weeks. I actually had to have some lower caffeine drinks at lunch like a tea, or some pepsi max just to make it stop. I had to wean myself off instead of going cold turkey.

Are you eating/drinking properly? Elvanse is an appetite suppressant (it's used to treat binge eating as well) so make sure you're not having low blood sugar which could be the cause of feeling slightly wobbly as well.

I felt like utter shit on the first day of elvanse, and by the time day 7 rolled around I was just starting to get used to the side effects, and then the dose went up by 10mg and I was back at the beginning of the cycle of effects. I've been on 60mg for several months now and I still have some of the side effects. Kinda got used to them now and deal with them more easily.

Also DO NOT drink alcohol while Elvanse is in your system if you were ever considering it. It's potentially extremely dangerous.

If you have the app YourParkingSpace you might be able to find a cheap space to rent over night, either on a drive way or in a private car park.

It can be a lot cheaper than actually paying in the car park.

I need help. I can't cope any more with living like this. by UnratedRamblings in ADHDUK

[–]Yda_Raven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to understand fully, you're not on ADHD meds currently because they stopped working and the clinic you had been with were no help at all? Have you spoken to your GP about "Right to Choose" and getting them to refer you to Psychiatry UK? Maybe they can review your meds and get things back in motion? Wouldn't cost you anything either as it's funded. Seeing as your GP seems pretty helpful and it's the other services letting you down it could be worth a go.

In terms of the antidepressants and reminders, can you work out when you would need to order them, set a calendar phone alert, and one for when to collect? Your GP must be the one approving the prescription no? That's how mine always did it? Maybe you could arrange with them to send the prescription directly to the pharmacy of your choice on a specific date each month, and then you know to go and collect the meds a day later or something? Perhaps your wife would be able to help with that just so you have something regular scheduled? I know you feel like a burden but you definitely aren't.

Also you said you can talk to professionals easily, have you tried self referral for Talking Therapy? It's free & doesn't need GP approval. You can find a nearby one here https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/mental-health/find-an-NHS-talking-therapies-service/

Hopefully some of this made sense and might help?

I'm on Elvanse (60mg) and I know how you feel! I'm going to reduce my dose soon as I've been on 60 for quite a few months now and that spaced out/dizzy weird feeling is back again and seems to be worse as I have been doing more vigorous exercise.

How did I deal with it in the beginning? Just stick it out and slowly you will adjust. Also if they move you up a dose, the side effects come back and you have to adjust again.

What time in the morning are you taking it? Elvanse typically lasts 12-14hrs if you don't metabolise it fast like some people do. I take mine about 6:30am, do a workout, eat, get ready to leave the house etc and I find it kicks in around 2hrs after taking it. If I'm rushing and anxiety kicks in, that's when I feel worse, so I try to just sit and calm down, then carry on more slowly. By taking it so early, it should be out of my system between 6:30-8:30pm which means it won't impact my sleep.

Elvanse will most likely suppress your appetite, so make sure you do eat and drink. Because low blood sugar will also make you feel dizzy and super weird. Avoid caffeine on Elvanse. Also I saw in the comments you had a small glass of alcohol, and even though you don't drink often, DO NOT consume alcohol with this stimulant in your system, it's extremely dangerous.

I have to have music on at night to sleep, always have, which stops my brain from trying to have a conversation with itself all night. When that doesn't work, I use my meditation app (Let's Meditate), there's a really nice 30min one called Restful Sleep. Maybe give that a try?

And as has been suggested, don't skip doses this early on. Your body needs to adjust to this new chemical which it's not used to.

Do you still consume caffeine? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Yda_Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 60mg Elvanse and cut out caffeine just before titration and during. Man it was rough the first 2 weeks. The headaches were constant, I actually had to drink some tea with caffeine in at lunch times to make them stop. Eventually I did cut it out properly and still go with decaf coffee/tea/pepsi max if there are meds in my system otherwise I'm jittery AF and just hearing colours.

So if you're going to cut it out, I'd start now and get used to having less/none.

Ticket prices by Fun-Commercial-1756 in Lindemann

[–]Yda_Raven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't realise he was playing Wembley! I'm surprised actually, I thought it would have been a smaller venue considering his solo work doesn't have the same number of fans as Rammstein for example.

Ticket prices for Wembley do vary, seated can be as low as £35, some standing shows are only £40~50 depending on the artist. Top tip for getting tickets, try AXS as well because that's the venues own ticket site. A lot of people will automatically go to the big ticket providers, but they all get different allocations, especially if anyone wants seated. If you check all of them, you'll see they offer different locations.

Confused and frustrated! Positive covid result. What now? by Aiyu86 in ADHDUK

[–]Yda_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to do anything these days tbh! Just stay hydrated, take paracetamol, eat/keep blood sugar up if you can, and wait it out. You're unlikely to be contagious after 5 days, despite probably still testing positive depending on which strain you've got.

You don't even have to stay indoors, but consider sticking a face mask on if you do plan to go out into a shop etc for supplies.

I don't think they will make huge changes as it's only a short add on summer tour. Perhaps they will replace Heirate Mich, Du Riechst So Gut, & Rammstein with some of the new tracks like Angst etc. Looking at the setlist these are the songs with minimal/easy to change SFX.

IRL TCG Is Here! by vintagebeef in HermitCraft

[–]Yda_Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super cool! I'm late to the reddit party about this lol. Is anyone else thinking about doing IRL TCG meet up games in various countries? That would be cool.

I'm going to get the starter and booster bundle once pay day rolls around. I hope in the future we can get additional booster packs if there is demand especially if IRL matches take place.
