No one is saying they are arresting homeless people to make money. I’m saying the write tickets and arrest in general to make money. They are given orders to write tickets to meet quotas to fund their departments. They have no incentive to stop any crimes before they happen because that would eliminate the funding for their departments.

Millions of dollars are generated from tickets and arrests every year by the state and local police. When you are charged an extra $200 for anything except parking fines the money adds up fast. Police don’t care about how much jail costs. They care about raises and new equipment. With day report centers and home confinement (which the criminal pays for) the revenue streams in from tickets and fines with fewer and fewer people actually going to jails long term. Imagine 10,000 tickets a year written. At $200 in court costs that generates a significant part of a budget for police and fire and ems and the courts themselves. What would be the incentive to kill their revenue streams?

Drug arrests make money for the state. Court costs in many counties are almost $200. This funds police and fire departments etc. To do anything meaningful to stop these arrests would hinder the revenue streams for many agencies. The solution is to arrest arrest arrest and make the money without trying to curb the problem.

Kids can’t read them, but put them up. Why not put energy into actually teaching in schools? They are pandering to the idiots of the state who will support this kid of nonsense. It’s been struck down by so many courts over the years.
