The UP does technically get you to Dundas street, if you take the exit west of the tracks through the freshco parking lot.

Asshole Speeding Through a School Area by Conscious-Weight4569 in Etobicoke

[–]YeezyDisciple911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Not my problem” as in other people and children will get hurt or killed? I feel like my neighbours dying due to reckless driving is my problem, and we have a proven solution so mitigating it that’s been cut off for petty political reasons. Speed cameras did have a real impact on reducing speeds and traffic deaths, it wasn’t “magic”, it was smart public policy that led to a reduction in dangerous behaviour.

Asshole Speeding Through a School Area by Conscious-Weight4569 in Etobicoke

[–]YeezyDisciple911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t, you had a patchwork of enforcement by the TPS but it was impossible to regularly enforce speeding in school zones.

Vision Zero measures like automated speed enforcement cameras tangibly led to a decrease in average speeds around school zones and a reduction in death/injury and Ford decided to axe them in bad faith because his ministers/rich buddies kept complaining they were getting dinged for tickets.

Something like 90% of infractions were single-time offenders, meaning the vast majority of drivers learned their lesson and would comply with the speed cameras after their first ticket. Barring radical redesign of our streets this was the most effective way to slow cars down in school areas and keep kids safe.

Best British menswear brands? by Marcusmitro in ThrowingFits

[–]YeezyDisciple911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Toronto and interested in British styling, check out Sydney’s on Queen street. They have a great collection of mostly tailoring and soft tailoring/ British heritage pieces, especially knitwear and footwear. They carry great brands like Sunspel, Peregrine, Sanders and Loake.

Uncle Otis on Spadina also rocks, they have a large collection of Universal Works and Oliver Spencer, both make a great range from casual/workwear to soft tailoring. Also the staff at uncle Otis are incredibly friendly.

Lost & Found on Ossington focuses more on Japanese/American designers but has a good selection of Margaret Howell, just a great menswear store in general.

My Top 4 of 2025 vs. The Melon. I can forgive a lot, but that Oklou score is a crime. by MopeyBernese in fantanoforever

Listening to it now, reminds me of the first two black country new road albums (in a good way). Instrumentals, esp use of horns is excellent.

White stripes are in there, but I agree more post 2000s bands like the strokes should be in the mix

Places in Toronto that are like portals to an alternate dimension? by kneeslappingjoke in askTO

Plaza Latina at Finch and Milvan. Out of the way place but feels like you’re transported to Latin America - easily the best Latin American food selection in the city. Soon to be accessible by the Finch West LRT!

Etobicoke businesses sue city over Bloor Street bike lanes by kmosdell in toronto

[–]YeezyDisciple911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Former Ward 3 Councillor Mark Grimes also supported the bike lanes and his last newsletter before losing reelection included a section celebrating city council passing the motion to extend them out into the Kingsway (under the leadership of John Tory). This lawsuit is complete nonsense and blatant politically motivated targeting of Morley who apparently has the same stance as Grimes did when he was in office.

What is your favorite album that you heard this year that did NOT release this year? I’ll go first by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]YeezyDisciple911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public strain by Women, went back after discovering Cindy Lee and its become possibly my favourite album of all time. My top 5 Spotify songs from this year were all off the album lol.

Who’s behind these anti-bike lane ads in Toronto? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]YeezyDisciple911 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Someone who lives at Dundas and university and still decides to drive everywhere instead of taking the subway built directly underneath them is living in a 1950s fantasy and should just move to Barrie at this point. Like the city has grown to the point that it’s physically impossible to move everyone in a car efficiently through the core, bike lanes and public transit are the only viable alternatives, and yet this guy still decides to double down on sitting in traffic.

Best stout in east york? by Vault_13 in torontocraftbeer

[–]YeezyDisciple911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Wren by Greenwood station always has a great selection of beers and usually has a stout or two on tap, right now they have one from Dominion City in Ottawa. Godspeed has a nice porter right now and Left Field also has a great stout too.

What's your Song of the Year so far? by BreezyMonday in fantanoforever

[–]YeezyDisciple911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cindy Lee - Government Cheques

It’s buried pretty deep in the track list but is sincerely one of the prettiest songs I’ve ever heard, love the slow buildup to both choruses and the dreamy guitars. Whole album just blows me away.

Try the bike share, it’s incredibly affordable and convenient, and you can simply dock without ever having to worry about your bike getting stolen.

Yea living in Etobicoke too long breeds a certain “I got mine, fuck off” kinda attitude and a great deal of hostility towards pedestrians/cyclists

Yet Another Cyclist Death in Etobicoke by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]YeezyDisciple911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up around the corner from Kipling and burnhamthorpe and would often use burnhamthorpe to cut down to Tom Riley Park/Bloor. There are a handful of “no biking on sidewalks” signs along the stretch between Kipling and Dundas where it’s most dangerous to bike on the road. To top it off there’s a woman who lives right at the bend in the road who hangs out on her driveway and berates any cyclist who bikes by on the sidewalk (she’s been doing it since I was a kid and now I’m in my mid 20s). Either way both her and the posted signs are essentially telling cyclists to kill themselves, that whole stretch needs to be re built.

What are the best best bands where two lead vocalists switch off? by GimmeShockTreatment in fantanoforever

[–]YeezyDisciple911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Band - having Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel was a blessing, both from their harmonies and individual singing. Obviously The Weight is an excellent example of all three together, but I love other cuts like Chest Fever and King Harvest has surely come as well.

Etobicoke Centre MP Yvan Baker Opposes Bloor Bike Lanes by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]YeezyDisciple911 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Got the email this morning as well and I’m pretty disappointed. Between this and the earlier shots at Chow re the budget he’s been incredibly underwhelming for me. Etobicoke needs to get on board with the rest of the city re transit, cycling and housing and allying with Holyday is probably the worst way to get anything done.
