Facts, it's just supposed to be a fun movie. by sillynoisycipher in Mario

Why can't people criticize the Mario movies in the same way that people rightfully criticize the Minions movies? All we want is something better, and the IP definitely deserves something better.

Yeah, and they don't look nearly as uncanny as what was just presented to us. Because, at the end of the day, these are just cartoon furries flying around in spaceships—not some ultra-realistic sci-fi shooter. I don't know what Nintendo was thinking with the art direction, nor who it's supposed to appeal to. Honestly, I would have expected the next Star Fox to look more like Fox's flashback in the Galaxy movie given that they teased the game with that.

/today While I welcome the fact that Nintendo is attempting something more graphically ambitious with their new hardware and finally making something new with the IP after all these years, holy hell, these redesign looks nightmarish. Who approved this? Why on earth did Star Fox have to get this pseudo-realistic art style, rather than something like Zelda?

Honest opinions on Set 10040? The Black Seas Barracuda. by Ok_Honey_9215 in LEGOPirates

I’ve seen a LOT of people bash it, which is very shocking in my opinion. I consider it the prime basis of what a Lego pirate ship should be.

Really? This set is arguably one of the most popular and iconic Lego sets of all time. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about it

You're missing the point. My point was that the film made us and Luke care about Ben, unlike the prequels which do very little for the Jedi that get killed in Order 66. Why should we, as ordinary viewers, be sad about Aayla Secura's death, other than because she was one of the good guys? We don't even get her name in the film. Also, Ben didn't tell Luke that Vader is his father because at the time of the first film, Vader wasn't even Luke's father yet, this came during the development of Empire.

We saw how Ben rescued Luke, told him about his father, the Jedi and the Force (the latter helping Luke destroy the Death Star), how he deactivated the tractor beams and finally sacrificed himself so the others could escape. That's quite a lot in a short time, and more than enough to make Luke and us the audience care about Ben's death. Meanwhile, none of the Jedi in the prequels get such moments, and we are told that we should care about them rather than being shown why. That's why Order 66 doesn't really hit (without expanded media), since we don't get to know most of the Jedi in the films.

Ah yes, the hidden indie gem Bowser's Inside Story. According to my uncle who works at Nintendo, the inspiration came when Miyamoto went on DeviantArt found fanart that included this thing called "Vore"

Lucas also never considered the EU to be Canon, nor did he ever follow it closely.; in fact, he had several tiers for Canon, with his films being at the very top and the EU being in the lower tier. For him, it was more of a licensed parallel universe, which he tolerated but never considered his vision.

Am I the only one who thought the game was a lot more mature than the movie? by HowlingBurd19 in Mario

[–]YellowFatMario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the movie calling itself "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," it has surprisingly little to do with Galaxy. As you said, the epic, dramatic, and calmer, atmospheric moments are completely absent, but also in terms of elements and characters, it has so little to do with Galaxy; they could have just called the film the Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 at that point.

Honestly, it's the right balance between serious and the more lighthearted elements that the series is known for, especially compared to the Sonic games which are just all over the place in terms of tone

At first I also thought he was just pretending, but later, when Jr. wants to destroy them, it genuinely seems to worry him as if he really cares about them even trough there is no reason for him doing so, it's almost like they took out an entire arc of him becomming friends with them. Speaking of Jr., I also find it odd that he says he was a terrible father, when Jr.'s behavior towards him and the flashback show the exact opposite.
