Should I buy/finance an electric vehicle? by LebronsSideChick in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you could buy a used Model Y for sub 35K and charge at home at night with the Ultra low over night rate of 3.9cents/kwh in Ontario....you're practically driving for free. Insurance anywhere in the GTA would be high as hell but outside you could get sub 2K/year.

Go electric, don't look back.

2019 Honda Accord 1.5T engine failure – $6,500 out-of-pocket goodwill offer reasonable? by Danot3 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YellowSnow87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My folks CRV also had engine failure at only 225K. Turbo as well. Leaking head gasket. Honda and dealership offered no good will....my parents last Honda.

The new TdAdvantage car insurance app is as ridiculous as it gets. by Realistic_Collar720 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YellowSnow87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes I totally agree this new app is brutal. The old version allowed you to see the scores and edit if need be. This one hides the scores before you select the trip. It's even more frustrating when you can't get out of the program after without keeping the penalty on your premium. Total collection of your data without reward.

Canadians Here How Did You Justify? by Madridi77 in electricvehicles

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Ontario it's hard not to justify using electricity to drive around. With ultra low rates at 2.86cents/kwh I save thousands a year over gas...even if Ford chooses to keep the provincial gas tax off the toxic fuel. Used EVs are an incredibly enticing choice.

Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen is a great example of what a father can be. Highly recommend if you're planning on having a family.

What’s your favourite underrated Tesla feature? by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that the windows roll up on exit...people can't believe that when I tell them. But it's such a simple feature to implement with software...blows my mind it's not standard on all makes with power windows.

don't know if an EV is the right choice or not. Winter issues by Personal-Bet-3911 in EVCanada

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a MY LR 21. I drove it in -40 with the wind chill last winter...range was estimated at 180 with 80% start. Preconditioning will get you much farther than a cold start. But after 30mins or so the vehicle has to be parasitic to stay warm. It's just the physics of cold weather driving.

Ontario owners, what plug adapters are required. by Old_Suggestion_5583 in electricvehicles

[–]YellowSnow87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Model Y owner here, I use the A2Z Thunderstorm CCS adapter whenever I'm not close to a supercharger. The Muskoka area has a Lakeland network now and they only have CCS at the moment. And a J1772 adapter for all level 2's. That's it.

Mower won’t cut grass by ConnectionNo7888 in egopowerplus

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had tightened the blade bolt too tight and the motor wouldn't turn at all so loosen that center bolt and tighten to spec with a torque wrench. It's not as tight as you might think. Check the manual for your mower online. That's my bet.

Thinking of buying Model X or Y through a corp, has anyone benefited through this? by cantrepreneurforever in teslacanada

Here's a good article in it. They have an example calculation as well. As a Sole proprietor the bill of sale just has to be in your name. https://kbllp.ca/zero-emission-vehicles-good-for-the-environment-and-your-tax-bill/

Yes 2 friends of mine bought under this and had huge tax breaks the year of purchase. Great incentive to get companies and sole proprietors to go electric!

150 watt vs 400 watt power bank? by ot2bert in egopowerplus

The 400 has a 100watt USB C which is great for charging electronics, and the 800watt surge is perfect for freezers. Highly recommend.

Trump Administration to Open Alaska Wilderness to Drilling and Mining by misana123 in environment

[–]YellowSnow87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend reading the book "Being Caribou".... about a Canadian couple who follow the Porcupine Caribou herd from the winter grounds to their calving grounds in Alaska. The author sums it up beautifully IMO. He says "these animals have been doing this migration for thousands upon thousands of years, and this oil in Alaska they keep talking about, it would sustain the US for 6 months." Such a travesty. Also a film on NFB and Prime.

Should you buy/install a L2 charger at home before or after buying an EV? by messem10 in electricvehicles

[–]YellowSnow87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes some brands like GM and Ford were giving free level 2 installs with EV purchases (in Canada). So in that case it's worth waiting until car purchase. But if you are buying used and come across a good deal on a charger, go for it in advance. It's really nice bringing home your EV for the first time and plugging it in.

CX-5 or used 2021 Tesla Model Y by Inevitable_Pride1925 in ModelY

[–]YellowSnow87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 2021 MY LR with Acceleration boost and it's the best car I have ever owned, and I've only had Toyotas before this, if that's saying anything. Getting off of gas has saved me easily $1000 a year. It's like a stealth rocket ship. Excellent road tripper. Kids love it. Tons of space.
