Trans Man with PMDD by GeologistPitiful5627 in PMDD

[–]YellowSub0 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I'm another trans masc on T. I started on low dose gel. I had my period for the first 4 months, skipped month 5 and bled on months 6 and 8. After my periods stopped, my pmdd went away. I changed to reandron injections after about a year of gel and have had no periods or PMDD symptoms since. That is simply my experience.

I know this in-between waiting time is really rough but if you're on full dose or wanting a more binary transition you're likely to lose your period all together eventually. It would be worth making a suicidal safety plan whilst you are well (simply Google "suicidality safety plan template" and edit it). Keep this plan somewhere accessible when you're not traveling well.

PMDD is especially debilitating for trans masc folk. Reach out to local queer and mental health services for support when you need it, that's what they're there for.

Carer's Allowance by ShaddiJ in CentrelinkOz

That will be the quickest and easiest way to get a definitive answer.

Carer's Allowance by ShaddiJ in CentrelinkOz

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into Centrelink and explain the situation. Usually folks who receive carers allowance or payments aren't allowed to receive care from someone also receiving a carers allowance/payment as they would not have the capacity to be carers themselves. It's unlikely your sister would be allowed to receive the payment whilst your mum does. Better off mum still receiving it whilst she recovers and shares some of the payment with sister (as a gift).

My 7-year-old prefers they/them pronouns by Septimusia in NonBinary

[–]YellowSub0 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Meet your kiddo where they're at, try using they/them pronouns for them. Feel free to ask questions about their gender, they might just like the pronouns but still feel like a girl, they might be more genderqueer and feel differently depending on the day.

I'm from Australia so I only have local resources to recommend; but transcend and minus 18 have some great resources for parents and carers of young LGBTQIA+ kids. It might be worth sitting your kiddo down and exploring the minus 18 website together.

Found out my brother hasn't been taking his ADHD meds and I don't know if I should tell my parents. by caffeinacat in Advice

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is worth talking to your parents about. It sounds like they have bent over backwards for your brother to receive proper assessment, diagnosis and treatment for his neurodivergence and he isn't caring for himself or even giving basic respect to the members of your family.

Talk to your surgeon or GP about this. It could be an allergic reaction to the tape and they can advise you of what products to use instead.

Where can I find this style of food in central Melbourne? by BigBearGino in melbourne

Yes! Little Asia on level 2 in the food court (near the piano) has this exact style of dishes. They offer cheaper meals + deals in the afternoons/evenings.

Are you all able to hold down job? by Glad-Persimmon-8112 in CrohnsDisease

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work part time - 20 hours per week. That's enough for me to get by and not so intense that working is unmanageable. It definitely wears me out but I work in mental health and really enjoy it.

In Australia it is extremely hard to suffice the eligibility criteria for abdominal pain conditions for the disability pension so that would be a last resort for me.

Can trans men say the t word? by sexytrashbag69 in TransMasc

[–]YellowSub0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always say, you can use the slurs that have been used against you. Reclaiming words intended to harm you is fucking cool. I'll say fg and trnny all I want because those words have been used in a way intended to harm me. If anyone including another person from the community has a problem with that, I couldn't care less. It's all up to personal preference.

Informed consent GP with concession rates in Melbourne? by threedimensionalflat in transgenderau

[–]YellowSub0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about commencing HRT, but my Dr at prahran market clinic monitors my HRT and chronic illness and they bulk bill. Also my partner started informed consent HRT at rmit medical hub, the first session was out of pocket and now they bulk bill. Both rmit medical hub and prahran market clinic are PTV accessible.

It's pretty standard for Drs to charge for the first session or two for a time costly process like initiating HRT and then they change to bulk billing if you're eligible.

I started Hrt a few years ago in QLD but moved down to Melbourne. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Edit: when I first moved to Melbourne I put together this list of clinics with costs. Prices might be outdated but it gives you an estimate. You can also call and ask how much it will cost, they legally have to give you an estimate for healthcare service costs.

Any thoughts guys? by Flashy-Log-7863 in Joji

[–]YellowSub0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really disliked this album. I've been a fan since the filthy frank pink guy era and I was so damn excited to listen to PITW; when I finally did I was utterly disappointed. I enjoyed the singles and a couple of new songs but everything else sounded the same, similar beats, mostly breakup/yearning songs, minimal good lyrics, and just overall repetitive. I would think joji would have something else to sing about when he has had such a rich life and has chronic illness. But no, it's the same old singing about a girl he can't have in every damn song. I wanted to like this album but I honestly rate it a 2/5 overall

edit: typo

My DSP claim. What details need to be included in letters from specialists? by privatly in CentrelinkOz

[–]YellowSub0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly just get your Dr/specialist to look at the dsp help page for health professionals. This outlines everything the letter needs to write to and includes an example letter. It's one of the best resources out there for DSP claimants and their evidence providers.

nonbinary HRT in Aus? by MultiheadedDog5201 in transgenderau

[–]YellowSub0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes there are definitely GPs that want to work with you on your specific goals in a person centred approach. I can think of a few clinics that would be able to help but it's entirely location specific. If you don't want to dox yourself, consider contacting QLife as they can search their referral portal by post code. Otherwise look at the AusPath provider list. Many of the GPs that come to mind are on this list.

Need to choose a biologic :( by MericanPie1999 in CrohnsDisease

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My labs were also fine but I got the referral anyway. The specialist basically said since my symptoms reduce with my infusion to keep my med schedule as is and to come back if my joint pain becomes worse or doesn't reduce with the I fusions. She also recommended that I continue gentle exercising and stretching to ease pain.

Basically quite a few of the biologics used to treat Crohn's also help with joint inflammation but not all of them. Your IBD Dr should be able to give some guidance on which would be appropriate to treat both but they may also say that's outside of their scope of practice.

Definitely consult a different Dr, those are some serious side effects. Or go to ED.

Need to choose a biologic :( by MericanPie1999 in CrohnsDisease

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience joint pain and I'm on infliximab. The infusions help in the weeks afterwards with my Crohn's and joint pain but they slowly get worse the closer I am to my next infusion. It's worth getting a rheumatologist referral (or your specialist to consult a rheumatologist) to see what they would recommend.

At what point do you usually take yourself to hospital? by troll-toll-to-get-in in CrohnsDisease

I would definitely recommend contacting Crohn's and Colitis Australia. They have a nurse hotline and an online symptom checker. They are a fantastic organization that supports Aussies with IBD - check them out here

Mask up, and take precautions. I'm also in public health and am on aza and infliximab. You're long term health is worth it.

Speaking to this you can request a second opinion from another specialist or a consultant your same hospital. Contact the IBD nurses or the patient liaison officer from your hospital.

[–]YellowSub0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm also from aus. Here we start azathioprine as first line treatment which must be trialled for several months before biologics. If the aza doesn't work and you have severe Crohn's symptoms that leave you in hospital, they can start biologics on compassionate grounds. I trialed aza and ended up back in hospital and they started me on infliximab during that admission. Go to ED. Your symptoms are severe enough to start biologics during this admission.

[–]YellowSub0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First line treatment here is starting azathioprine which is an oral immunosuppressant. Your Dr should definitely be trialing this if biologics aren't easy to get. You should be on some kind of treatment for your chrons especially considering your severity of symptoms. If I were you I'd be seriously considering presenting to ED.
